I did not want to see this fight happen. Gatti was stopped by Manfredy and outpointed by Ivan Robinson twice. He won a vacant title and suddenly he is a Mayweather opponent. Gatti was one of my favorites but Mayweather should have went after Tszyu instead.
Yup... too bad the great fighters (Zoo and PBF) went for the cashcows (Hatton and Gatti) instead.
Tough tough question. It really depends. If I have to base it on these fighters performances in sat 2011 and now, I would have to put Ward first (even ahead of Pac and possibly of PBF). If I have to weigh in entire careers, it is (after PBF and PAC) clearly JMM followed by either Martinez or Donaire, with Ward trailing.
Honestly this question really goes to show how subjective (and hence kinda pointless) p4p is.
I guess most posters here remember quotes of roger mayweather disrespecting countless boxers so i thought we could do the opposite and list good things he said about fighters. I know he thinks robinson is greatest of all time and heard him say on 24/7 duran is greatest latin fighter of all time. Thats what i can remember on the top of my mind.
Ezzard Charles
May - Cotto is a good fight, but Pac-Bradley is better IMO, stylewise it is a big risk for pac. There is always a chance that Bradley will be blown out of the water by Pac's supernatural physical abilities.
kostya tszyu.
A typical euro fraud would be someone like Sven otke, Joe Calzaghe or dariusz michalczewski. The current heavyweight division is a euro fraud.
give you good k for some reason, but i would cos i think you re the first to mention zoo
I'm glad he is not making himself out to be a saint because he did the exact same thing against Antwun Echols to put him away.
Exactly, see my thread in boxing history, to which you can greatly contribute
joe calzaghe has actually fought ATG's
floyd mayweather hasn't
both are cherrypickers, both are undefeated(coincidence)
but regardless, styles make fights, joe wins
or else convince me otherwise, what can floyd do to stop the points pilling for joey?
"Styles make fights"
That is why, if Calzaghe fought Hopkins, Jones, or a properly sized Mayweather, before they hit retirement age, he would get KTFO. It is called "accurate right hand vs slapping southpaw w/o defense". that's how 40yo fighters managed to put him on his ass. That is how the same fighters at 30 would make sure he doesn't get up.
Lol Kellerman is a clown. I like when he gets into it with Roy and they disagree with each other and Roy schools his ass. Then he finds a way to agree with Roy like "Yea well... blah blah"
true! he always try to come up with some conciliatory bs after gettin schooled.
The comments made by all 3 of them were pretty much useless as always. The only good commentator they have his RJ, he should be hired full time and get rid of stewards old ass.
Amen to that.
Max Kellerman is one of the smartest people in boxing, if not the smartest. I just don't get the nonsense that I hear regularly on here about him.
He could have a phd from effin harvard, but he says stupid sh1t about boxing way too often.
how could u guys forget tito vs. wright. or tito vs. hopkins. or tito vs....u get the point. and im a huge tito fan, but those fighter were just embarrassing.
especially Tito-Hop, because at the time Tito seemed to be destroying the whole boxing world from 47 to 60... up to that night. Lots of ppl were looking at that as just another fight for Tito before he moved up to face RJ. Some ppl had no clue who b-hop was. The rest -as they say- is history.
I have seen most Linares fights. I thought he could be great, but I never liked how he got hit without rolling with the punch, way too often. I am starting to think that all those punches he could have taken power off of/avoided ruined his chin for good.
Roy jones would have slapped floyd around the ring like floyd slaps his wife around. Look Jose Luis Castillo beat mayweather.. yes the one who didn't give a fkk the other day about making weight lol. That speaks of the level of opposition floyd picks andwhy he is undefeated. He would get killed by any decent opponent, let alone an ATG like Jones.
:bottle: here
Another example could have been (very briefly) Zab Judah. He looked superb in the second Spinks fight. A complete focused fighter. As impressed as me and my friends were, no one ever forgot the chicken dance. (golden moment didn't last long for Judah anyways, what an idiot...)
I have one problem with this. It seems like your comparring a prime 160 Roy to a 147 Floyd. Point is Floyds prime is 130-135 and at 130 Floyd threw combinations he was way faster with his legs and hands. Most importantly he had power to get ko's or stop people. Floyd at 130 was just as much of a beast as Roy at 160, difference is Floyds defence is and was better than Roys. I say it's at toss up between the two. By the way Roy kills Manny.
Try Lou Del Valle who dropped Roy in the eighth round in 1998
Another point is that I would not say Jones looked great against Toney or Hopkins.
You are both right. The writer has a slight bias in favor of Jones, but he makes a very good point.
I am not sure who i would pick p4p, leaning towards Jones.
Roy Jones and paulie along with steward should replace lederman and the other two, I forget their names.
Great Interview.
Wish I could hear these two guys commentating instead of the current team. Let Lampley on, cos he has the timing, and drop everyone else. IMO Steward not so great.
Hard to say because the last 3 dudes Cotto's beaten had great physical disadvantages. Busted leg(the Jewish kid), busted body(Mayorga) and busted eye(Margarito). Cotto is one of the best, if not the best, of the last 10 years though. Margarito beat him but he's to Cotto what Resto was to Collins. That doesn't figure in when reflecting on who ranks higher between the 2 or when considering who are the best fighters of this era.
Fixed it for you.
Hatton had been knocked out less than 2 years before. Hell, he had just been put down on his ass hard 2 minutes before.
Paul Williams was the most feared blah blah.
To me it is pretty obvious.
The boy could hardly stand to be honest. The ref did a stirling job of stopping the fight after letting Juanma get away with murder. Juanma kept using his elbow, his head and holding Salido's head and never got warned.
True, ref also let Salido go lows as much as he wanted. The holding behind the head was ridiculous (and as a sienote Juanma was also not using it effectivelym why did he bother fouling?).
Anyways the only hint of corruption (or gigantic bias) were the scorecards.
Unfortunately I agree with OP and edgarg. I think it has little to do with his pro career. It has to do with him starting getting hit in the head real young, and his insane sparring.
And btw i did not want to post it in the title, but I think Juanma's comments were b!tchass, not just ridiculous. Only justification is that he just had his brains scrambled.
How about we find the minority and make it easier?
Is there anybody who didn't find Juan Ma's comments outrageous?
Honestly, I think Salido knocked him around too much that his brain was still recovering
you definitely have a point.
I think the most likely Morales gets stopped while he goes for war in the late rounds, because even though he will have started out good, he by round 10-11 he will have lost 7 rounds, and his heart will prevent him from doing anything else than going all out (I am assuming we are talking about Morales at the beginiing of his 130 run), and 130 Mayweather banged hard enough to hurt any smaller tired fighter going for broke.
Stylewise Morales was too right handed too 1-2 (mind I am not saying he is not a one handed fighter but he clearly works around that right hand in the classical way) and that is not good against Mayweather IMO. I think that slightly bigger versions of Marquez and Barrera would have had a better chance.
