Didnt see a thread posted bout this, so I figured I'd make one.
Discuss your thoughts on if you think JCC Jr. indeed raise his stock last night or did Rubio just come in with the wrong game plan? Rubio seemed to suffer from having the wrong game plan, plus he looked flat. JCC Jr. didnt impress but he did look solid. Your thoughts????????
i say yes he is now at the level in between martinez, pirog and the rest of the middleweights. people say that he needs to fight better competition but who is there for him to fight the only fight that needs to happen is vs martinez and i dont see many guys lining up for that one. other than that fight the rest of the field is just a bunch of european guys that dont want to fight in america.
i actually love the idea of that fight. it could be fun.
i think chavez would learn a lot in that fight. he's never been in there with a puncher like that.
i think chavez consistency and those tiny extra dimensions he has when he moves around the ring would give him the edge
abraham is the biggest one trick pony in the sport
but man can he punch. it doesnt even look like he should be able to hurt guys punching like that, but down they go.
dont ask me why (especially now that i know he's not as serious as he can be about his training with the DUI charge,)
but i like junior. the kid is growing on me.
it would be half fight half side show (considering the difference in size,) but i still want to see him fight canelo

It would definitely be very fun, Chavez Jr. is proving to be a very fun fighter to watch. I just expect him to make a much smaller Abraham look bad in the process.
Now that he's stepping up his competition and gaining credibility, I'm not going to hate on Chavez unless he gives me a reason to. Much like Alvarez, as long as they continue to improve their competition.
I think your question has a yes and no answer. I think his stock probably went up with the casual fans (and he has A LOT) and maybe down some with the hardcore fans. For the casual fans (the ones that don't really know the ins/outs of the fighters) he is exciting and seems to give everything in the ring. For the hardcore fans (ones that know what his opponents are like/syles of fights) he is taking on the same type of fighters in Bob Arum style. What I mean by that is - the opponent who can give him the most reward (make him look good) with the least risk (Champions like Rubio ). For me, he fights more like a fighter being carefully brought up who has only had 15-20 fights. But he's got this hugely padded record of what 45 PRO fights at such a young age, like Canelo. And if it was legitimate competition then by 44+ fights they shouldn't have to be moving him along so carefully. Yes, I know he doesn't have an amatuer record - but this is the PRO business. I don't know, I think I'm on the fence. I think for sure at this point, if they want Jr. to be taken seriously as a top contender - he definately has to step up and only fight top comp from this point on. After last nights fight and Jr.'s comments to Merchant, I personally feel like all the guys Chavez called would beat him pretty convincingly. I think of the 3, Margarito MIGHT be the only one he could beat and I'm not even sure Jr. could beat Margarito. I still think it would be a great fight, don't get me wrong, but my thoughts after the fight were "Any top fighter with movement, beats this guy." Chavez needs guys who will fight HIS style, which is EXACTLY what Rubio did last night. Against Cotto and especially Martinez, IMO Chavez will look lost. And with all this nonsense of the DUI only 22 days before fight, it makes me think Jr. either is not seriously training or just doesn't think he can lose (w/help from the WBC)... and both of those are dangerous for Jr.
Oh, and for anybody who actually believes the fact that Jose Saulimon really *cough* FORGOT to test the fighters after the fight and OOPS! accidentally did open scoring in the U.S. >>>>>>> I have some serious bridges to sell you.... just P.M. me :lol1: :lol1: I wish I could find the picture of Jose accidentally NOT forgetting to climb in to JCC jr.'s corner immediately after the fight to hug and kiss Julio. :haha:
Jr. is improving a lot and actually taking boxing very serious.
I felt he solidified himself as a top MW and I actually favor him over a lot of guys at that division.
IMO he is going to be one of those late bloomers, who will finally come full circle in his late twenties to early thirties.
i voted yes with a disclaimer
if you had told me that chavez would be this good years ago, when he first started fighting on BS top rank PPV and the like against bums at lower weights, i wouldn't believe you
the kid is improving. there's plenty of room for it, certainly. it's not out of the question that he will continue to get better every time he fights. i am noticing marked improvements.
this also kaiboshes the notion that a freddie roach fighter cant fight inside. jr gets in there without a jab and can find space to land body punches.
he needs to start eating and living like a fighter year round and do his best to stay at 160. the guys at 168 are bigger and frankly they're just better than he is.
i dont think he will ever be anything special, but he's getting better every time he fights. he's got some stuff you cant teach. a good chin, and a hard left hook to the liver. that's a recipe for an exciting fighter.
eventually i want to see him fight canelo. two years from now. 164-5 lbs
it would not only be a massive event, it would probably be a classic fight if they showed up to scrap
canelo isnt a small guy himself, he's the superior boxer, and eventually he's going to fill out into a MW
What I have notices is that Freddy doesn't like to change his fighters style, rather enhance what they are great at.
I really like that approach, vs a guy like Emmanual Steward who tries to force fighters to fight a certain style.....which in turn ends up making those fighters worse.
Im a massive fan of his father and have never been that impressed by Jnr. But i just watched the fight, and although he does need to fight the top MW's, i loved his tenacity. Many of the top fighters lack that quality.
I think his stock dropped and probably lost some fans. What a boring fight. The crowd in Texas was booing him. Rubio wasn't even doing anything like having a high guard or running away that prevented Chavez from putting on a show. While I thought this was a step up and I'll give Chavez some credit because Rubio looked okay on paper, I never thought he had a chance of losing. And I think people (including me) ended up overrating Rubio way too much with that Lemieux win, especially considering what Joachim Alcine did to Lemieux in his next fight.
Overall, I think he regressed from his last fight.
Didn't help that Rubio fought Chavez's fight all night but definitely seeing some improvement. He knows how to utilize his size advantage and imposes himself as he should. I don't think he'll ever be great but compared to a year ago I don't think he gets as embarrassed by Martinez should the fight ever happen. I'll give him this, at least he's a fan friendly fighter.
I would like to see him in there with a fighter more skilled maybe a guy like Pavlik at 160 or 168 they are both promoted by Bob Arum so why not.
Nah. The Kelly Pavlik that we have now would get outclassed by JCC2 IMO. If Kelly would get himself together, THEN I would like the match up. But to me its starting to look like Kelly was a shooting star.
Well Chief, I've always believed that Chavez jr is a better prospect than Canelo & I stand by that. I'm actually starting to believe that he may be top 5 at 160. He may give Martinez a run his money, that fat as$ fvcker is just too damn big. I'd love him & Pirog to throw down.
Now that Bushbaby my man, would be a VERY interesting fight. They are both round the same size, and I really like Pirog, he does pretty much everything well, not great but very well. Canelo really gives me the feel of a 2nd tier Mexican Cotto if you will. But He's still super young and has more than enough room to grow. I think Martinez's speed, and angles would give JCC2 some serious problems.
Yes he raised his stock but he looked much bigger than Rubio. Now there is no-one left to fight except his mandatory, Sergio. Unless he's gonna start calling out LMW's like Canelo or Vanes.
very fan friendly
if rubio put his foot on the gas more he would have bonked him out of there
he hardly threw his right hand trying to protect that liver of his.
JC2 was trowing some mean lefts to the body last night. I cant really blame Rubio for paying extra attention to his liver. :lol1:

I have to give Chavez Jr. some credit. He did fight someone who earned their to his title shot.
I think the weight issue causes some concern when it's time to weigh in but when he rehydrates it can be a big advantage for him. Rubio has power and his punches but he was smothered and bullied by Chavez Jr. Rubio isn't intelligent enough to maximize his effectiveness. Seeing that fight gives me a better appreciation for skilled fighters. To me the headbanging was boring. Rubio should've tied up more and force the ref to break so he can get the distance he needed to land his shots. At close range Chavez had more power. I give Chavez credit.

I think JCC Jr. and AA would be a good fight. AA can handle the height of JCC Jr, and JCC2 will get off by way of AAs high guard D, and low punch output.
I stopped looking for the "wow factor" in JC2 last night and just accepted the fact that he is going to be a solid fighter. I was able to enjoy watching him work more after I did so.
IDK bout JC2 and Canelo at any weight. IDK if Canelo can handle that type of length, coupled with decent movement. But I do like that fight at a CW of 165 in a couple of years. :fing02:
