now he growing 2 pairs of balls with fighting mosley...lol
I'm not convinced Mosley is that much better than the other fighters Floyd has beaten. Floyd is a bigger betting favorite against Mosley than he was against Hatton or De La Hoya. He will probably beat Mosley convincingly and then people will say Mosley was overrated/old/shot like all of the other boxers Mayweather has fought.
Q: What do you think about people saying that Cotto was able to win last night because he is being trained by Emmanuel Stuart?
A: He fought the right motha****er. That's all there is to it.
Cotto was never close to being shot. He has struggled in recent years due to fighting better opposition than he had fought previously. Now he took a step back and fought a less dangerous opponent and people are making a big deal of this win. The Cotto that fought Foreman is basically the same as the Cotto that fought Pacquiao, Pacquiao is just a lot better than Foreman.
Mayweather is a slow starter, he often spends the first couple rounds just observing the opponent. He only threw 23 punches in the first round, 26 punches in the 2nd round. Then he started fighting seriously, and averaged 43 punches per round for the rest of the fight. Rather than Mosley slowing down, it was really Mayweather who sped up.
I don't really understand the point the OP is trying to make. 2 years ago, Pacquiao had a poor performance and struggled against JMM. Somehow that is supposed to make him more great and not less great?
It seems like a lot of the recent fighters are underrated. Modern professional boxing has only been around for about 100 years, so you would expect to have approximately 1 top 10 boxer and 2 top 20 boxers each decade. In the 1990s, Roy Jones Jr. was voted Fighter of the Decade (although you can make an argument that Pernell Whitaker deserved to win it more) and he also had some significant accomplishments in the early 2000s. Mayweather and Pacquiao have clearly been the top 2 boxers of the last 10 years, and both have some unique accomplishments. Pacquiao is the only fighter ever to win major world titles in 7 weight classes. Mayweather is the only fighter to ever win titles in 5 weight classes without losing a fight. Logically, you would expect Jones Jr., Mayweather, and Pacquiao to all be ranked in the top 20 all time, but in the OP's list all of them are outside the top 20 with Jones Jr. all the way down at #71.
The problem with Cotto is that there aren't many things that he does better than Mayweather. Cotto has a good jab, good left hook, and good timing, but those are all thinks Floyd also does well. Meanwhile Floyd also has speed, defense, footwork, and an excellent straight right hand. Cotto does have more of a killer instinct for finishing off opponents than Floyd, but that isn't going to help him much if he doesn't have any other advantages. I just don't see any plan for Cotto that would give him a good chance of winning.
Maybe if you actually watched the fights instead of looking at the back of the DVD you would know that John only decisively won the 12th round and realistically couldn't have won more than 3 all together.
How can you say that? There were a lot of people besides the judges who scored the fight for Chris John. Even Marquez and the people in his camp only thought he won 7 rounds, so I don't see how an unbiased person can have John winning less than 4 rounds in that fight.
He gets better with age minus the mayweather fight
I don't completely agree with that. Casamayor is even older than Marquez and Juan Diaz isn't really an elite fighter. Marquez eventually managed to KO both fighters, but those were very competitive fights that Marquez should have won much more easily. The last time Marquez really looked like he was a top 3 P4P fighter was in his 2nd fight against Pacquiao.
There are a lot of boxers that use PEDs. How many? It's hard to tell since the PED users are trying to avoid being caught, but I wouldn't be surprised if half of all top-level boxers have used PEDs. However, regardless of what drugs you take you won't be able to win if you don't have talent.
Duddy is the best opponent Jr has faced so far, but Jr should still be the favorite. If Arum and Jr's management didn't think he would win they wouldn't let him fight Duddy.
31. Cleveland Williams
32. Lennox Lewis (Burger mashed vitali at 37)
I don't get it. How can they possibly justify ranking Cleveland Williams ahead of Lennox Lewis or the Klitschkos?
Most fighters throw more punches when they are facing Clottey. Margarito even set the all-time compubox record for punches thrown when he fought Clottey.
Maragrito would be one of the slowest opponents Pacquiao has ever fought. Pacquiao would be the fastest opponent Margarito has ever fought. I don't think Margarito would even be able to win a round against Pacquiao.
you lose energy when your punches are being blocked or missing the target but he didnt show signs of slowing down.
suspicious
You lose a lot more energy when your punches miss than when they are blocked. Clottey blocks punches rather than avoiding them, which makes it easier to throw a lot of punches. In addition, Clottey stands right in front of you without throwing many punches and does not attack the body, so he is the perfect opponent to get a huge punch count against.
41-0 has been done many times before. However, out of all the fighters who have stayed undefeated that long, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has fought the best competition.
I would put Cotto below Martinez and Williams but above everyone else. Dzinziruk hasn't really fought anyone, Cintron will always find a way to quit, and Angulo lost to Cintron.
No but everyone said it was a horrible matchup for him and he would get outboxed. That didn't happen. However yuri doesn't punch. I saw a few things I liked, but mostly go impressed with the stiff jab and he outboxed the boxer. Anyways my two cents lol
Who said it was a horrible matchup for Cotto? I remember saying that Foreman looked like he was tailor made for Cotto.
I don't see any reason to think that Pac-Cotto II would be much different from the first fight. The gap in athleticism between Cotto and Pacquiao is just too big.
Cotto is a draw, but it wouldn't really be a big fight (compared to Floyd's other options) because not many people would give Cotto much of a chance of winning. Cotto is maybe the 4th most interesting potential opponent for Mayweather after Pacquaio, Martinez, and Williams.
great win for Cotto but Margarito took something from him he will never get back he wont beat Pac in a remacth. He just cant get over how he lost too Margarito. Cotto is a bull who has been castrated
I think people play up the "Cotto is ruined" idea too much. Cotto is basically the same fighter he has always been: good, but not close to being in the same class as Pacquiao or Mayweather.
Based on the Sr vs SRL fight, I am pretty sure Jr would beat SRL. SRL was clearly better than Mayweather Sr., but the fight was still fairly competitive with Mayweather avoiding a lot of SRL's punches and hitting SRL with a decent number of his own. Mayweather Jr uses a similar style as his dad, but he is much better in every way. If it took SRL 10 rounds to stop Floyd Sr then there is no way he would be able to KO Floyd Jr, and SRL isn't skilled enough to win a decision against Floyd Jr.
