I'm sure that's what people thought about Sonny Liston. 84" reach great jab. Ali is great at guessing ranges and using his length and reflexes to make people miss. Wlad has been known to gas out. Ali regularly fought opponents that were stronger than him, had more muscle etc Theres good footwork, theres great footwork, then theres Ali footwork. Hec ould go in throw his combos and be out before the Klitschkos could react, lean back to avoid shots and then counter. I like the Klitschkos, I think they are underated, but they would not beat Ali. Yes exactly the 84 inch jab of liston didn't work at all. All ALi would have to do is an over the top right hand counter.

i definitely agree the klits are useless against 70s era heavies but whats with the massive klit hate? The massive klit critisism is due to the fact that these clithuggers are constantly downgrading ALi's best wins. For example the say one of the most rediculous things I've heard: "joe frazier was featherfisted" - now this is just pure absurdity.

Vitali 6'7" + 80" reach. Wlad 6'6" + 81" reach. Both have more strength, more power, more muscle. Great stamina, can impose their will. Fight with a safety first mentality with the ability to end the fight at any given moment. Ali 6'3" + 80" reach. Fights on the outside, head hunter, jabs and straights. Any other punch is ugly and loopy. Fights with the hands down. Great footwork. I'd choose the Klits every time. They aren't gonna get outboxed, they have footwork themselves. They aren't 1-dimensional head hunters or wild hayemaker throwers, that throw punches from outside of their range and wonder why the punches aren't landing. In all fairness Cleveland had a slug in his body. And his leg was shriveled up. Ali still great, never understood why some people use this as one of his best performances though. Absolutely, I was going to write the same thing. I have never understood the rationale of using the Williams fight to boost Ali. Not only the things you mention, but I recall that he was lacking about 11 feet of intestine a kidney and a spleen. The doctors at the time said it was a miracle that he wasn't killed, that is was because he had a 6 inch pad of muscle across his abdomen. He was 6 mths in the hospital, dying much of that time, and then about 6 months in recuperation to some semblence of what he had been. But unfortunately, he was never more than a shell of his former self. At the time it happened there was a big account of it in Boxing Illustrated, which I remember, and actually have. There werea few interviews with his sponsor and manager. Hugh Benbow i think his name was, It's a very long time ago, and although I have an excellent memory, I may be inclined to rely on it a bit too much. so can be in error.
