Here's a 40 minute segment of experts and analysts telling us who they consider to be the top 20 greatest fighters of all time. Please leave your comments and thoughts about the list.
Muhammad Ali shares his opinion on p4p rankings:
thoughts? comments? :dunno:
He was always a bit eccentric if that's what you mean, and he got worse the older he got :D.
He never went mental and lived a somewhat healthy life.
lol also did he randomly start erraticly shaking his head?:rofl:
My List always remains the same...
1) Sugar Ray Robinson
2) Ali
3) Sugar Ray Leonard
I don't consider any other name to be in with these guys. Duran might be a close honorable mention, beating Leonard, having a career with 100+ fights, etc.
Anyone mentioning Mayweather as GOAT compared to these guys is high as a kite.
The quality of boxing is not the same today as it was in the era of these boxers. That's one thing. The second thing is all 3 of those guys have like 10 HOF fights. Floyd has exactly 3. The end. No comparison.
Manny may one day put his name onto the top 10 list. He has 9 HOF fights (if Cotto gets into the HOF which I believe he will).
Is it true that Archie Moore became mental or something?

I think he was present at frazier-foreman I.
I don't know about that, but I wouldnt be surprised if its true
He was in Foreman's corner in Zaire, he also did commentary for the fight: Ali-Frazier.
You should also read Thomas Hauser's biography about Ali, paying particular attention what Moore says as well
The Ghosts of Manila- Mark Kram
Kram spent a lot of time interviewing Moore.
After Ali dropped him in their fight he shouted, "where's the dishes? Where's the laundry?"
After the fight Moore went to Ali's dressing room and said, "Never show up another fighter son, you never know when you may be coming down yourself"

really? I didn't know that. where did you read it?

I don't think so, Moore wanted him to sit down on his punches (ko power) and be more technically defensive minded. According to Morre, it was him that taught Ali the Rope a Dope. As for Dundee, he made suggestions to Ali during training sometimes Ali listen to him other times he ignored him. He couldnt of been happy with the way Ali chose to defend himself in the ring

he wouldn't have gotten as far as he did if he used Archie Moore. Angelo Dundee knew very well what he was doing. Archie Moore style would have "bottlenecked" his natural athletic abilities.

Would move Duran and Tyson up. Put Robinson at the top. Relegate Dempsey.
Jack Johnson?
What is a great boxer? Is it boxing ability?
He was a great brawler at the time. The best in the world and the biggest draw in his time. A serious bad boy with the court cases but the likes of Tyson, Tunney and Marciano were better heavyweight boxers.
are u joking? when jack johnson was fighting he was arguably the best pure boxer of all time up to that point. he was everythig but a brawler, he was considered a defensive genius. corbett invented the idea of a jab but johnson took it to a new level, he took the art of hitting and not get hit to a new level in general.
the fact that u would move tyson up shows how little u really know about boxing, tyson should be happy to squeeze into the top 50, very happy. he has no buisness in the top 20. only mainstream fans think he does.
His style is actually closer to that of Gene Tunney's then Ray Robinson's, they box very similar and move the same.
He's on the video as well if I'm not mistaken, right?
He should of stuck with Archie Moore, imo. I have never been impressed with Robinson's and subsequently Ali's defense

It's common knowledge that Ali emulated SRR's style throughout his first career.

Well I think he had descent enough power to get an opponent out of there. In no way is it light hitting. In no way is it a punchers shot either.
The backwards knockdown proves that Ali had picked up some tricks along the way from ray robinson. He also knocked an opponent out going backwards.

No problem, its just that I don't think Ali's kds of Williams mean anything about Alis punching power. He remained a relatively light hitter through out his career

Yah, I know he was hating, he made some predictions that were wrong about how Louis was going to get beat but still he was probably the only person in America that thought Schmeling wasn't just another person that was going to get destroyed by Louis.
Live fast and let someone else pay for the funeral
