Terrible comparison due to different boxing styles. Those guys hit Cotto a lot more than they hit Floyd. Floyd would rather get the W by decision and not get hit than KO a guy in an all-out war. Actually, every boxer would, some just don't have the defensive skills to do it. Cotto is one of those fighters.
Am I the only one who is bored out of his mind reading these interviews with fighters? They always say the same thing - NOTHING. "It's going to be an exciting fight", "he's a good young fighter", "it's an interesting fight", "I'm looking forward to the fight". Jeez...
Light-skinned Puerto Rican here and Floyd has been my favorite fighter since 2006. I hope he humiliates Cotto so all the blind, nationalistic PR "fans" would shut up. I hate that arrogant prick.
This is pathetic. You're implying that you're happy giving Cotto your money. He's a millionaire who doesn't know you and doesn't care about you, why should you care whether he gets any of the revenue? It's as simple as this - buy the fight if you want to see it, don't buy it if you don't.
Please, as if boxing didn't have enough weight classes already! Gatti was ridiculous for saying that stupid sh!t that he was too big for 140 and too small for 147, and now you're even worse for applying it to Cotto. It's just more excuses. What do you propose, creating a 144 and a 150 weight class? Boxing would even more of a joke than it is today.
Imagine if this was the 50s - you were either a WW or MW. SRR fought Lamotta weighing 144-145 to Jake's 160, and I don't remember him complaining.
If Cotto is "too small" for 154, then lose some f*cking weight and go to WW, simple as that. Also, if he's too small for that weight, then Floyd must be beyond miniscule, as he steped in the ring weighing 148 against ODLH.
Im going to start playing along with these threads.
No he shouldnt be in. He sucks and always will suck. He will lose to Cotto and if not, then he will lose to Pac, and if not then he will lose to Sergio, and so on and so on
:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
Se ya'll are loyal as hell.reading your post is loyal as hell.in your mind you think floyd will win yet in your heart you still bet real money on the fighter you stand behind............damn thats loyal
...and stupid. Do you think Cotto (or any other fighter) would risk a penny for any of their fans?
I used to love rooting for Cotto from about 2004-06. He was a young PRican fighter on the come up and was knocking out guys left and right, how could I not like him? Then he started getting hit more in his fights and kinda dissapointed me, began to get REALLY overrated by PRicans, and then I met him and he was a total prick. After that it just got worse, I saw him hanging out and drinking all the time, all the gay jokes got stupid as ****, the drama with his family, his constantly saying that he was the best boxer alive, etc. I really wanted him to lose against Margarito and since then I've truly hated the guy.
Also, Hopkins. I always appreciate smart fighters, and when he beat Tito he made me respect his skills and I became a fan. When he beat Tarver I became an even bigger fan, but hearing him ***** about losing to Taylor kinda annoyed me. Even though I believe he won both fights, the way he talked about them was pretty lame. I still liked him a little bit, but after I heard him on Hot97 saying that he doesn't respect PRicans because we're not an independent country, I was done. Then after that, the "I will never let a white boy beat me" thing pissed me off some more. And what totally made me HATE the guy was the acting on the "low blows" in the Calzaghe fight.
Cotto's a prick???
In interviews, he seems real cool and like a really nice guy.
But when you watch him interract with others, it's not that far off to think he's a prick.
I met the lead singer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, one of my favorite groups of all-time hands down, at the LAX airport back in the 90's, and Anthony Kiedis, their singer, was a f**king a$$hole. I still love the Chili Peppers though, and support their music no doubt. Fame changes you, I'm sure it has to.
Yeah, in most cases it does. The thing is, that being from PR, he will always be compared to Tito, and Tito is the nicest guy in the world. I've met him a bunch of times and he stops to talk with you, makes jokes, everything. I know everyone is different, but if there are famous boxers that are totally approachable, why do you have to be a dick? And it's not only that, I really hate how he constantly has to drink and go out. Look at Floyd - total discipline. I respect and admire that.
I use to support Miguel Cotto but after he got beat down by Margarito he used Margarito's wrapping scandal to make an excuse for his loss. I know I am going to get criticized but it was never proven that Margs cheated before the Mosely fight, so IMo he beat everyone prior to Mosely fair and square.. So **** the cry-baby Cotto!!!!
Amen.
A lot of people didn't like it..
If he said all you mexican roaches get ready.... I doubt you'd write it off as Rican slang..
Not NEARLY the same. ***** is a term of endearment. Puerto Ricans grew up around blacks in NY and use it all the time (Fat Joe, Big Pun, Termanology) and no one blinks an eye. Just look at Don King in the video. Does he seem upset?
"His performance against Mayweather"???? Yes, he gave it 110% and fought like hell, but he lost 9-3/10-2 in a wide decision loss.
Just what I was gonna say.
Man, this guy wants to be Floyd Mayweather so bad.
I'm convinced he spends his time out of the ring thinking of things Mayweather might say, just so he can sound like him in his interviews.
My thoughts exactly. This guy tries way too hard; it's pretty pathetic.
I can't believe no one has mentioned what is most likely my #1 choice: Forrest over Quartey. I remember after the fight, Dibella said something like "When they read the scores, I couldn't believe they were that close, and when they announced Forrest as the winner, I thought I was hallucinating". My thoughts exactly. No other fight I've seen has shocked me as much when they announced the decision.
Another one that wasn't a big fight was Demetrius Hopkins vs. Steve Forbes. I thought Forbes controlled the pace and outboxed Hopkins throughout the fight, but when the scores were announced, they weren't even close! That one was also a head-scratcher, but since it wasn't a huge fight, no one seems to talk about it much.
#3 would have to be Oscar-Tito. I know Oscar didn't do himself any favors by running for the last 3 rounds, but out of the first 9, I can only give Tito the second. Oscar was jabbing the hell out of him, landing combinations at will, and Tito seemed lost and confused as he tried to cut off the ring with no success.
Floyds previous opponents
Ortiz - Former LWW just 1 fight at WW
Shane - On the decline WW
Marquez - LW never fought at WW
Hatton - LWW Champ moved up to WW
Does anyone see the pattern or are most of you just bamboozled..
What about Jesus Chavez, Jose Luis Castillo, Diego Corrales, Carlos Baldomir and Oscar de la Hoya? Did they not outweight Floyd by more than 10 lbs. on fight night? Dumbass.
Margarito, Cotto, Clottey, Shane, DLH, Hatton far from little next to Pac..
The first 3 were hardly at their best after coming off wars/losses and the last 3 were done and Floyd had beaten them first. Also, Floyd and Pac are the same size, always have been.
just from this era I would have loved to have seen:
prime Mosley at 140 -
Vernon Forrest with no shoulder problems at 147
prime Oscar at 147
I'm not saying they all beat him, but these guys bring a totally different element to the fight when they were in their primes. Floyd beat Oscar by split decision, maybe a 2 point difference on the official cards - and he was nowhere near his prime.
Shane had Floyd HURT bad with a couple right hand he knew he had to look for, even from a much older Mosley. When he was in his prime at LW, Shane having Floyd hurt like that early in the fight would have been trouble.
Shane never fought at 140, and Oscar and him always sucked against guys that moved and controlled the distance. Forrest would just get picked apart, he'd never find Floyd.
Chavez is a zombie; he can barely even muster enought energy to speak. His cheeks, neck, and eyes all look extremely bad. I don't like the guy and I'm rooting for Martinez, but this is too much.
Mayweather never used his weight to overpower Marquez. He beat him with skills. If they were the same weight, Mayweather would still have the skills to beat him. And it's not power that dropped Pacquiao. It's timing. Pac was more aggressive, the more aggressive you are the harder you are going to collide into a punch. It's science. In another words, it's logic. In another words, it's reality.
Exactly, but don't mind the Weebler. He's a bitter Hatton fan who predicted Hatton would brutally KO Floyd, and since then, he's been picking anybody to beat Floyd just because he needs it for his self-esteem.
With that being said, no. Floyd is smarter, better defensively, and more athletic than Marquez. He had every advantage. Manny was more athletic than Marquez, but you saw what happened to him for not being smart defensively. Floyd whoops any version of Marquez at any weight.
On a side note...this puerto rican chick I talk to right now told me there is alot of tension between cubans and puerto ricans about that. Both claim each other stole the flag from the other and just change the contrasting colors.
She's either Puerto Rican-American or just plain ignorant, cuz she has no idea what she's talking about. The PR flag was designed that way as a tribute to Cuba for having acquired their freedom from Spain.
that's a lie told by floyd.
nevada state athletic commission requires 10 ounce gloves for 154 fights.
they use to require 10 oz. for 147 fights before they changed it last year.
He means the Reyes gloves, known as "puncher's gloves". Floyd uses Grant gloves (I think) because they protect his hands better than Reyes. Oscar was aware of this, and made him wear Reyes to have yet another advantage.
you cant compare a prime cotto to a part time fighter in oscar ..oscar was a good win for floyd..but oscar hadnt won a significant fight i years..before that fight he beat mayorga, before that he lost to hopkins and got a gift in the sturm fight..this is a prime champion in a higher division pacman is fighting...both fighters are healthy no excuses..this fight will be great so kill the hate
Mayorga WAS a significant fight...it was for the title, and by KOing him like he did, he made a statement. People were saying Oscar was still great.
Also, this isn't a prime Cotto by any means.
By the way, I respect Floyd a lot more, not only because of his superior skills, but due to his dedication. This man is a gym rat, trains hard, and does not drink. Cotto gets drunk in public and acts a damn fool in public here in PR all the time. I didn't even respect that when I was 14 and saw friends of mine do it. How can I respect a grown man who does it, who by the way, happens to be a pro boxer? He should know better.
unlike any other fighter he stood in there and kept going. any other person would have just given up like oscar. dnt get me wrong he did take a beaten but at least the mofo tried.
No he didn't. MANNY stood there, waving Cotto to fight. Cotto was running like a bitch.
2000 to 2009 is 9 years your dumbass.
2000 through 2010 is 10 years...idiots haha
