If Naz wasn't so vocal about his religion in america no doubt he would be in the HOF, just look at Barry Mcguigan FFS how does he get inducted and the Prince doesn't? Load of Bollocks
You think US writers cared about religion that much? I doubt it tbh, they're quite tolerant of the various religions over there.
I think it's more ignorance regarding his pre-Barrera/Kelly career. There is, or was, pre-internet, a commonly held belief that you're unproven until you come to the US. A lot of semi-casual boxing fans still hold this belief, the better read fan understands it's the opponents that matter not the venue.
I'd say Nas was like a British version of Broner to many of the IBHOF voters, someone they never believed in and were waiting and hoping for to get beat just so they could say he was never good in the first place. Hamed was of course, significantly more proven than Broner but that's lost on most of them (Rafael and one or two others excepted) and the fighter he lost to over 12 was an atg in Barrera, not a Maidana.
Thats my opinion bro, i vividly remember Larry Merchant admonishing Naz in his post fight interview after the Bungu fight for shouting 'Allah Hu Akbar' in the mic pre fight, and this was pre 9/11, i dont believe HBO or even showtime would tolerate that now
I Used to train at Duke Mckenzies gym back in '06 and its true; the guy never had a positive thing to say about Khan; Maybe a little jealous of his success; i heard his brother was a bit of a Pakibasher aswell; maybe that might have something to do with the negative commentary lol
PPl need 2 realise Naz was NOT in his prime when he fought Barrera. Watch the documentary "Little Prince Big Fight", he was training in a 5 star resort, while Barrera was up in Big Bear. He didnt train seriously 4 Barrera. Manny Steward himself stated that he hardly ever sparred 4 that fight. At that period he was so arrogant because he believed his own hype. With his unorthodox style, speed, skill, and KO power, the Naz of 95-97 would destroy any featherweight today, including Gamboa. Back then he trained well, esoecially with Brendan Ingle. True British boxing fans will know he fought top fighters and top contenders e.g. Alicea, Kelley, Madina, Vasquez, Tom Johnson, and beat them all. Frank Warren offered Barrera the fight back in 96, and again in 98 after he fought Wayne McCullough, and he himself refused. Later in 2000 Naz tried fighting Barrera or Morales, and they BOTH refused, so he ended up fightin Augie Sanchez. He made so much money from the game, he lost his desire 2 fight, plus they tampered with his style.
i cant believe these calzaghe leftovers are gonna fight eachother.... hahaha....
Calzaghe is a Great Fighter, But Both of them would EAT him in their Prime...
Froch is a Hater. No Major Uk TV network will televise his fights, hes 32, a shit fighter, no skill, speed, or defense, hes ugly, got no personality or star appeal, and making peanuts compared 2 the likes of Calzaghe and Khan; so he has 2 Bitch about them like a Jealous lil Hoe!
I 'd rather watch someone who wears the Union Jack on their shorts than one who's fat mum sits in the crowd waving Pakistani flag, even though he 'claims' to be English.
Go Wash Ur Foreskin, its Startin 2 Smell of Bacon
I'm the biggest Naz fan around, but I'll say, Naz never really fought any Elite fighters up until Barrera.
Should have got a better promoter (Yes Frank Warren makes a lot of money for you, but he makes some shit fights) and stayed with Ingle as his trainer.
Agreed. But obviously money talks.
Naz late KO
psychologically he was finished after parting with ingle, its common knowledge
No doubt. This was evident in the McCullough fight, where he never once looked at Ingle, let alone listened to him. Also when he faced Soto, Ingle, Sanchez, where he looked terrible.
I forgot to metion that Naz did best with aggressive fighters who came towards him; this is the main reason i think he would have beaten Marco. After Marco fought Morales he became less aggressive, and more of a boxer/counter-puncher; full respect to him, he had the perfect gameplan to tackle Hamed.
wtf??? if Hamed wasn't prime when he fought Barrera than wtf is prime?? it kills me to say this but, Barrera schooled Hamed bad.....Hamed should've rematched him with a different gameplan
Hamed never went into the ring with a gameplan in the first place lol. He was an instinctive fighter, but i do agree with u. If he rematched Barrera, and trained hard and seriously, with a solid gameplan he could have won.
Naz couldn't even muster doing his top rope somersault that night. At first he motioned like he was gonna do it, but somehow he couldn't...lol. He knew he was going up against the real deal.
I dont think he was lacking confidence, if anything he just became arrogant and felt indestructable, so he got humbled.
Seems everyone is writing Hatton off. Not sure what him being a shot fighter is based on... He lost to 2 of the greatest fighters of this generation and that automatically renders him useless?
Ppl must understand Hatton doesnt live like an athlete; he baloons up and down in weight between fights, binge drinks etc, plus hes been in a lot of wars and that affects a fighter mentally as well as physically; especially considering the devastating KO by Pacroid. His reflexes, punch resistance, and co-ordination in the ring wont be what they were when he fought the likes of Kosta Tszyu or Juan Urango; thats why i actually fear 4 the guys health if he fought Khan. A good comparison is Miguel Cotto; great fighter in his prime, which was 2 yrs ago; now after a few wars, and 2 bad stoppage defeats (by 2 cheaters in my opinion), hes mentally not the same fighter.
About 2 Weeks ago i had a dream that Jones decisioned Popkins, also back in '08 B4 Khan fought Michael Gomez i had a dream Gomez landed a left Hook and knocked Khan down 4 the count; Gomez actually knocked khan down with a left but Khan got up; ironically he fought Prescott next and was down 4 the count !! Weird shit i hope roy does win tho !
Hes right Bhop really has lost his mind lol! Bhop is 1 bitter, jealous mofo, just like Frazier was and still is towards Ali; he knows he'll never be as entertaining or as big a draw as Roy; all those years he was middleweight champ, while Roy was P4P King must eat him up inside!
Naz was the hardest ever puncher at 126, awkward style and great speed; in his prime he did best against aggressive come-forward fighters; pacquiao was not as technically skilled at 126, he was more of an aggressive slugger; Naz would have caught him on the chin with one of his vintage corkscrew uppercuts while pacquiao was charging in; Naz by TKO early!
I know 2 wrongs don't make a right but Richard Hall tested positive for 2 different kinds of steriods right after the fight as well. I guess those two steriods wasn't shi* on Roy's roids.
Tru but Richard Hall wasnt P4P King 4 a decade, so obviously the question has 2 be asked, was Roy on roids for fights prior to or even after the Hall fight during his prime? the drug testing in boxing wasnt as vigorous back then; and its still pretty shit now.
Roy is 1 of my fav all time fighters, but after finding out he tested positive 4 roids after the Richard Hall fight it put a big question mark over his career 4 me, which was dissapointing coz hes a nice guy.
Nice Reply!!! It shows how ignorant this thread is. Take that somewhere else man, its threads like this that clog up this site. Talk boxing or go watch enter the dragon.
