People saying things like "it's bad for boxing" "match up is ridiculous" etc etc.
So what! If you're not interested in the fight don't watch it. These are two legends of the sport and between them they've given fans more entertainment (Bhop is entertaining in his own way) than most other active fighters put together.
If these two warriors want to finally fight a rematch over a decade in the making then I'm all for it! So what if they're past it, it might not be the best display of boxing skill you'll see this year but it's still a very intriguing fight.
I'm looking forward to this and if you've been a fan of the sport for more than the last two months, you should be too.

The fight is bad for boxing...it just shows that the talent and stars in boxing is not what it used to be. When a washed up Jones who's been KO'd bruttally 3 out of his last 10 fights is going to fight an old but game Bernard Hopkins and its going to be televised in PPV thats just sad. Boxing needs new characters in the game, new talent, boxers who are willing to fight each other and avoid politic bullshit. The only purpose of this fight is to give Jones a retirment check and add more money to the bank for Hopkins. It has no meaning
there is no 24/7 and hbo is hardly promoting this fight at all. they wont even have their regular HBO crew covering the fight.
That's cuz it's a Golden Boy ppv. Hbo only handling distribution.
Ok...........................
hey reedickylaluss....judging from your pic of jones and nard face to face....jones should hook nard in the adams apple.....lol
That makes no freaking sense at all. I never want to see a fight, especially on PPV where one guy is ranked top 10 pfp (not that I care about those lists but it shows what level the guy is fighting on) vs a gut who is 5-5 in his last 10 fights, been blasted out 3 times, got pounded vs calzaghe and 3 of his last 5 wins are against, hatchetface hanshaw, OMAR SHEIKA, and Ajamu.
Only morons holding on to the past would pay for this fight.
Seriously, you are a very astute poster, so I"m going to assume that you accidently wrote the bold line.
That line was more aimed at the posters who have been flooding this forum with redundant Pacquiao/Mayweather threads for the last few weeks. In hindsight it was a bit eccentric but I was sick of people with very little boxing knowledge disrespecting two legends.
That's a bunch of crap right there. Like Roy didn't get enough easy paydays. Bhop had his fight with Oscar. That's plenty freaking money right there....they don't deserve shi t.
I presume you watched Roy when he was in his prime? He gave us some serious entertainment, he risked a lot by fighting bigger guys in higher weight classes and as a result he got ktfo a few times. He earned my respect and if the dude wants to make some retirement money off a C grade fight I'm all for it.
They deserve the payday.

Cool, I know where we stand then..

That's a little misleading. He hadn't fought in nearly two years and it was much anticipated.
Wasn't it Twelve months between Johnson and Tarver III? But yeah i agree i looked forward to it, thought Roy would UD Tarver that time.
Roy is master of getting big fights. He got a title shot after being KO:d by Tarver...
He got a title shot after being KO:d by Johnson.
He is used to this...

My problem with it is that its on ppv and being treated like some sort of "mega matchup" by HBO by giving it a 24/7.
This is HBO championship boxing level at best.
And thats being generous considering what happened to Roy in Australia.
There is no 24/7
It really depends on what Hopkins has left. If he's got enough, then yeah this could be a fight we look at and wish never happened. Was very hard to see Roy go down like that against Green. When was the last time someone lost by first round TKO and got a big fight next? Not good.

I think the reservations come from people's dislike of Bernard (like me) because he will def win this fight and is seen to be cherry picking a shot RJJ instead of fighting Chad Dawson. Beating Roy will add nothing to Bernard's legacy, it's just so he can say 'I beat Roy Jones Jr' when everybody knows Roy would've murdered him or Calzaghe for that matter at any time up to the Ruiz fight when he put on too much weight as was pretty much done as an elite athlete after that.
