cotto won it, first couple of rds with the power jab, then Mosley came back a little, and Cotto fought back hard and pulled the fight towards him. close but clear decision like Jim Lampley said.
one of the best fights of Cotto, i loved it!
thats a fight i'd like to see actually. and don't forget Randall Bailey, if anything, he's a very very hard puncher. so if this fight happens, it's gonna be good.
Cotto....

the Hulk

lol by the way, @NChristo the Toney poster.. could be taken in a racial context by some, although i think that wasn't your intention at all.
OP claims everyone doesn't know what a pure boxer is, then proceeds to name SRR, who was first and foremost a great infighter, as a pure boxer despite his supposedly stringent criteria. Brilliant.
hell yea, there u go!
yeah i also see Marquez taking Katsidis apart, i don't understand why ppl think he's past it by now. the dude had too much weight on him against Mayweather, so he wasnt the optimal Marquez. he'll dance circles around Katsidis i still believe. but i guess he's gonna have to prove it against Diaz first.
it was close, but i think the problem in the first was that Marquez let Diaz fight too much, he needed to box him more. he knows his style now and i do think Paulie has taken something out of Diaz. Marquez should be able to handle Diaz, not with ease, but he's just the better fighter in my eyes, namely his experience and technique.
The problem with Katsidis to me is that he's pretty sloppy you know, and Marquez can box. i was blown away by his agression and just all out force. but i think Marquez knows what to do with that.
Floyd would win but that would probably end up being a fight of the year or decade or something.. Leonard v Hearns type of stuff.., Mayweather v Judah but better..
i expect alot of wlad mentioned here...
just 1 question
when is the last time he has lost...
2004...
he has not lost in 6 years............
doesn't mean his chin doesn't suck. he's just learnt (thanks to emmanuel steward) how to keep his range and keep other ppl from hitting him on the chin flush. kudo's to him (and manny) for protecting himself like that.
hahaha couldn't help it..
Paulie has a beastly chin, let's not forget, so all the KO predictions for Khan (on the chin.. *hint**hint*) are most likely out of the window..
they're both boxers, Paulie is looking incredibly fast, but Khan has Roach who dissects his opponents so good, only second to Naazim, and no matter how experienced Paulie is, Khan's youth and Roach's brain should be able to win the fight by decision or KO to the body.
@realdeal, hey man, do u have that pic of robinson bigger? i've been looking for that one all over. "here hold this", beautiful uppercut, was against graziano right?
but i think it also is management issues, i just think him and Chad Dawson should get it over with.. there's hype building and there's being forgotten..
all i know is i've never seen Kessler getting beat like that, i mean this was the guy that gave Joe Calzaghe a serious run for his money. and now all of a sudden, Ward makes him look like a fool. I really didn't get it..
but then i heard (according to an article in Ring Magazine) he used some of Victor Conte's stuff for "intermittent hypoxic training", to stimulate the build of more blood cells (JUST like EPO, what Shane used!) and that REALLY made me doubt.. even if he used the stuff and wants to do OSDT now, it's probably out of his system now, right?
i'm not a Ward hater, but i am suspicious.. oh well..
He reminds me of james kirkland in ways, I think that's a good comparison. They both have that intensity about them in the ring and raw hunger and determination which are attributes that are often overlooked in boxing.
Cloud needs to get in the damn ring though and fight more. Don King may end up ruining his career.
totally agree.. could really end up being another Tim Witherspoon? (that was the guy right?)
Phil Landman said in the countdown show for the Margarito fight that 140 was brutal for Cotto, he was totally dehydrated. 147 was a bit more natural. so 154 must be feeling a lot more natural, he can grow some muscle and really fight, i think we might get to see a very scary and dangerous Cotto.
there is bias man here and there, also depends on the ref's judgment, if he thought it was more heat of the moment than intentional, then maybe he can let it slide. Also, that fight was in Puerto Rico..
i was wondering that myself. if u see the woods fight, to me, it's just straight forward all out high speed attack from round 1-12.
so that means Chad Dawson might give him problems because of his boxing prowess. Hopkins.. would have trouble with the pressure, too old now.
Calzaghe and Cloud.. damn.. that would be a good fight!
the others, we'll have to see how they move up, although Dirrell and Ward will give him trouble with good boxing/side to side movement. Bute not too familiar with to judge at all.
i could be wrong, but i think he's just a powerful boxer, that moves in straight lines and just bumrushes you with speed and power.
it's weird.. if my hands are wrapped too tight i feel it. knuckle pads, whatever. yes i am a cotto fan, but i'm also a boxer. i know when gloves are too tight, too loose, when my wrapping is too tight, too loose, i even feel when i've wrapped my knuckles more than my wrist.
i don't get it, how could Margarito NOT know? sulfur and calcium was found.. how much of it was found? it's just wrong man.. and the PED's and Plaster comparison: when you use PED's, it's something you use to gain strength and stamina, you still have to work for it, for instance steroids make more testosteron so ur muscles grow bigger WHEN you train them hard. u still have to train.. u build ur weapons with enhanced parts, firing the same bullets faster and harder.
the plaster are like shotgun slugs in the weapon instead of the smaller caliber rounds in the same old weapon, less speed and pace, but more painful shots.
would u have a big brute beat u up with bare hands or a skinny dude with 2 bricks?
to be clear though: cheating in any case (PED's or plaster) is WRONG! i think everyone should be expelled from boxing like that.. but that's just me.
Yes.
Could he have been much greater? Hell yes.
Yup, exactly.
It's his boxing brains and his elusiveness, he's REALLY smart in the ring, which is why i don't see anyone in our era that could really beat him. The problem is he never tried everybody, especially Cotto in his prime, hehe :)
Too bad Judah never disciplined himself enough so we could really see a fight of 2 greats. he did get far though.
i am and always will be a Chad Dawson fan. he had an off night, it happens. the thing that hurt me the most though is how he was complaining at the end. at the post fight presser, Pascal said it best: "You have to know how to win and HOW TO LOSE like a champion. this is boxing.''
You went to somebody else's hometown, u had an off night, u got whooped. Learn from it, come back stronger, but take ur loss like a man, stay classy.. what the hell Chad?
anyway, i can understand him somewhere, and me and him have the same style, even though he's of course much faster and well conditioned than me. i'll be rooting for him, hopefully he learns from it.
hahah funny subject.. well i think it is pretty much aesthetics, cuz if i remember well, Khan didn't used to either earlier in his career. u gotta appeal to ur fans right? women love that these days, looks better on tv, cleaner.
a theory: hair also provides "grip" for punches, where punches can land harder, glancing blows can become serious shots, because of the grip that hair provides. cuts can open faster. but even if so, its a slim advantage. i know John Ruiz always fought with beard later on in his career right, even against David Haye? no biggie.
I personally like Don King and see no difference in him than any of the other promoters who have done boxers wrong since the beginning of boxing.
The reason I think King gets more hate about what he has done in boxing is because of low-class upbringing, criminal past and the fact that he is black. People can sit here all day and say race doesn't matter anymore its 2010 but in truth we all that is complete bullshit.
if i'm your promotor and say u get 70% of what u deserve, u might complain, but u'll take it.. whatever.. i'll keep putting u up against better fighters if u perform better.
if i'm your promotor and u get 20% of what u deserve and keep using u as a human heavy bag even though u got a lot more talent (Tim Witherspoon, i think, right?) what am i doing it for? for boxing and money or just money?
Not sure about a huge star but he will def get more credit and get more recongition.
yup. he'll show that he is still gonna be a good boxer, maybe not as great as dad, but better than we thought initially.
he's not winning though, lol.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_King_%28boxing_promoter%29#Controversies
Excerpt out of "Controversies" part of Wiki page:
Don King has been investigated for possible connections with organized crime. During a 1992 Senate investigation, King pleaded the Fifth Amendment when questioned about his connection to mobster John Gotti. In public, however, he has responded to mob allegations by calling them racist.
Mike Tyson, the former undisputed World Heavyweight Boxing Champion says of his former manager, King: "(King is) a wretched, slimy, reptilian motherf--. This is supposed to be my 'black brother' right? He's just a bad man, a real bad man. He would kill his own mother for a dollar. He's ruthless, he's deplorable, and he doesn't know how to love anybody."
there u go.. dude is a bad man..
thats whats up. thats what i was waiting for, just marquez back in the ring. i hope Marquez can handle him better now, he's probably gonna be stronger, i hope.
i've had the same feeling for a while, he writes good stuff, but he does get negative and pisses off Mayweather Sr., although that might not be too hard to do..
ooh man.. that dont sound too good. but naazim has a lot of experience under his belt. i think he knows what he has to do, and mosley is fit as hell too year round. but he should never underestimate the task of Mayweather.. tough stuff..
James Toney is gonna get submitted, but it was a mistake in the first place of Dana to sign him. i understand, cuz Toney's a legend, charismatic, but he's done. i hope he gets something done, some good fight, if he learns some good good takedown and submission defense along with some kicks, he MIGHT have a chance but i doubt it.
