those who voted yes. what fight did floyd prove without a shadow of a doubt he is such?
He has consistently made very good/great fighters look average.
Hatton
Judah
Castillo
Corrales
Oscar
Ortiz
Mosley
Marquez
Nearly all of those fighters were p4p at some point in their career, and in quite a few cases they were p4p when Floyd fought them, most of them have won multiple world titles, in multiple weight divisions. Yes you can break down that list and make it look less impressive, but he got the job done every time and hasn't lost many rounds at all.
Would I have liked to see him fight a prime Mosley or Oscar? Hell yes, I think they would have been extremely tough for him. But Oscar still had a lot left imo when floyd fought him, even if he had seen better days.
His general body of work has been ATG worthy, believe me many guys who you would probably consider ATG's, I could put a slant on their career, and make them look less impressive. The question you have to ask is would Floyd have been at the top or near the top in any era of SFW's, Lighweights, Light Welterweights, Welterweights?...IMO Hell Yes!
The thing missing from Floyd's career is a special fighter, a truly elite prime fighter, we all know who that man is. If Floyd had beaten the equivalent of a Prime Oscar, Shane, and Pacquiao, that would put him right up there for me. But he hasn't which is why I have him in my top 30-50, we will wait and see what he does from now on.
I say no, he is missing that one big fight which is within his reach and hasn't happened.
For me his biggest win was against Corrales. Great fighter but hasn't challenged himself
I can't believe there were a few posts saying Floyd isn't an ATG because ATG is thrown around too easily. Boxing has been around for more than a hundred years or so, and has featured hundreds of great fighters.
Most people say top 100 is ATG. In a sport with the history boxing has that sounds about right, if anything we'll eventually have to expand that to top 120 or top 130 because new ATGs will push out guys who are still ATG, but won't make the top 100. Saying that the top 30 fighters are the only ATGs is really unfair, because the sport has changed so much that the top 30 may never change. It's hard to envision guys today being able to accomplish what fighters used to accomplish. Doesn't mean they aren't among the all-time greats.
79...79!!
What a disgrace!
Floyd is one of the very best fighters to ever lace them up, on ability for me he is in the top 10, on accomplishments somewhere in the top 50. He has not fought enough great-special fighters to warrant being compared to the best of the best, and my fear is that he never will because of his attitude to measure risk vs reward. On that basis I don't see him ever cracking the top 10. I think a Pacquiao win and a Martinez win, would put him around the top 10-15, it is always interesting to see the various opinions on a thread like this. But still...too many haters, I don't like Floyd Mayweather, but to say he is not an ATG is hilarious.
good its a public thread :) once again we'll see if Mayweather haters can step over the hate and be fair
in america he is, lol, internationally hes probably not, lol, now i was fair as the american public wants me to be, lol, hes a legend in the us but every other nation thinks of him as a real good hall of famer who was undefeated and chicked out against the greater fighters from other countries or cherry picked opponents aswell, lol, nyahahahaha fukk u south central car, lolfloyd is fukkin gay, lol, nyahaha
All time great?... Yes unfortunally, due to his own doing he will not be considered as great as he could had been... Top 50 ...Sure...Top 25 not a chance on the other hand Pac will be considered top 25 and Floyd had the tools to beat him...
i believe so too.....
just hope floyd does more to erase any doubts on other people's mind...
i'll put him somewhere top 40
how can he erase the doubts if he only continues to fight the baldomirs and ortiz's of the world. the 1 win wonders who never amount to anything. doesn't he have to beat some really good established fighters eventually? we might as well call canelo a great because he's doing the same thing.
6 time world champion in 5 different weight classes warrants that I'd think.

tszyu tried to make the fight happen? as much as who? did he leave showtime? did he go to hbo? he was the only top 140 at showtime. so how much did he try to make the fight happen? lol. ur funny. listen to wat ur saying. expressing interest in a fight is not trying to make a fight happen. there were never any negotiations. which means there was no chance of a fight happening.
floyd never had a chance to fight tszyu, its that simple. im convinced if he knew that fight was still out there, he wouldnt have left 140 after gatti. how u call floyd ducking tszyu is beyond me.
convinced by what? his long history of taking on the best? oh wait....he left 140 to fight mitchell who just lost to tszyu, a judah who just lost to a journeyman and then that same journeyman. then he demanded 10 million dollars to fight cotto when that's how much he got to face delahoya. i didnt know cotto was on delahoyas level. its such a coincidence that all the best fights never take place when floyd is around. weird huh.
tsyzu tried to make the fight happen. the guy was on the shelf for a long time trying to make the fight happen. he can only do so much. if the duckers at hbo don't want to fight him they can just say oh hes at showtime sorry! of course its possible to make. not easy but possible. mayweather took the easy way out. it was just a lot easier to fight 2 eliminators to get to a guy he called a paper champ. thats basically the story of his career. yeah he could fight the tough fights but its just easier not to.
you originally said it was his goal to fight tszyu. if it was his goal he sure didn't act like it. tsyzu at least tried but they needed both fighters to try if the fight was to materialize. didn't happen.

the main point still stands. tszyu and the hbo fighters were never gonna happen. and tszyu did exactly what everyone of the hbo fighters did, go along with the network supporting them. he didnt leave showtime, he didnt try to negotiate with hbo (making **** up). he expressed interest and then stated it was unlikely because of the different networks (which is btw the same thing floyd said). so yea, dont make **** up.
