"Morales and Marquez both had success with their great hands."
What version of Manny was that? It was before he became the fighter he is today. You see what happened to Morales in fights two and three. The start of Manny becoming a complete fighter was against David Diaz. From that point on, he was a much improved fighter.
His thrid fight against Marquez, was his best oout of the three and was the most convincing win. Marquez landed the more eye-popping "single shots" but he is a Hall Of Famer. Manny was smart enough to neutralize that righ:smileysext hand most of the fight. His defense has vastly improved. His footwork is a beautiful thing to watch at times man. He blocked and dodged many of Marquez's punches. He out threw and out landed him. If they fought again, it would be the same result or even worse for Marquez. It was a close fight but that's what happens when you fight the best. You can't and will not dominate every opponent.
As for Cotto. He has always had a high boxing I.Q. Unfortunately for him, he was also his own trainer and boss in his camps. He is a much improved fighter also. His defense has improved and he is smarter in the ring than ever before. Outside of May's right hand, he simply doesn't throw enough punches to keep a great fighter off him. All of Cotto's strengths, are his weaknesses. May is hittable by an opponent with a great jab. He gives you his body. He has a low punch output. Hmmm, Cotto has a great left jab. The best since Oscar in those divisions. He is a vicious body puncher and he is busy enough to keep May on the defensive. This is an intriguing fight. You agree? He has great legs and has a good chance of winning that fight. May isn't the same fighter he use to be. He would gain my respect even more with a victory over Cotto at 154. If he chooses to fight anyone else on May 5th, I'd be disappointed.
You sound like a fool. You don't know boxing.
When I think of it, there is really no sport where there are dominant "big men" anymore. In boxing, the heavyweight division is one of the weakest. In basketball, there aren't anymore true centers anymore. In hockey, there's only Chara. In baseball there's some big home-run hitters but yea.
I rate them like this..........Whitaker is better inside, he is better from mid range but Mayweather is better from long range. Whitaker is a better counter puncher though.
Floyd is great in the pocket.. he can fight in and out.
"Floyd is listed at 5 feet and 8 inches (5’8”) with a 72-inch reach. Why am I mentioning these stats? Try to check Floyd’s list of previous opponents and see if you can find any of them, apart from Oscar De La Hoya, who has both advantages in size and reach over him. If you are successful, then you can stop reading and I will certainly rest my case. If you can’t, then read on and know the facts."
So now, boxing has Height/reach classes? Not weight classes?
I guess Paul Williams is a heavyweight.
Is this actually Al Haymon?
I read that Hopkins is going to have a tune up fight Dec 2 in Philly before his fight with Roy Jones in early 2010. He will probably want to fight someone aggressive because that is the style he does best against. I was thinking maybe he would fight Chris Henry or Adrian Diaconu, in an case he could probably get any LHW in the world he wants because who would turn down a fight with Hopkins? Still what if by some chance Johnson is able to beat Dawson? Hopkins should easily be able to beat a come forward aggressive fight like him who he had already beaten years ago and not only that, if Johnson is to win against Dawson then he would be Hopkins best opponent anyway. It would be a great win for Hopkins then going into the fight with Jones.....any ideas on who you think he will fight?
It would be nice to see Hopkins square off with Cloud for his tune-up fight.
15 rounds with small gloves? Duran would obliterate Mayweather. Mayweathers a defensive genius but them big gloves and 12 rounds help his style alot, the rules back in the 1980s favour Duran and go against Mayweathers style. Duran would be too much for him, you all seem to think you can just out-box duran lol, it doesn't work like that, Duran won't let you out-box him he'll chase you down put you on them ropes and smash your body/arms/head everything he can hit. He beat a Prime unbeaten Leonard at 147 and no, Leonard didn't fight a stupid fight, that's how Leonard ALWAYS fought.
Much respect for Mayweather but if we're talking 1980s rules @ 135, Mayweather isn't winning.
Floyd is great on the ropes.. SHOULDER ROLL
Hopkins finally swallowed his pride and settled to 50-50 even though he is by far the more relevant of the two at the moment. After Roy calling in to his interview, and more or less pushing for a fight against Hopkins, when Hopkins said he wanted to fight Dawson or Adamek many on this board said that Hopkins was trying to avoid the fight, indicating that he was afraid. Now that he has turned around and said fukk it, took 50-50 when he has little to proove in a fight that means more to Jones at the moment, will you guys who were stating that he was avoiding Jones (you know who you are) give the man credit if he beats him?
Hopkins' last 5 fights were a lot more competitive than Jones' last 5. People still view Hopkins as a top P4P fighter today whereas Jones' isn't on a single top 10 P4P list. I will give Hopkins credit if he wins but a Jones' will look a lot better as Hopkins looked great against Pavlik. People will often bring up how Jones' is washed up and shot if he loses. I'm a huge RJJ fan, he is one of my favourite fighters and I believe prime vs prime he beats a lot of opponents but Hopkins is at a higher level right now. When you lose your reflexes all you have is the basics and Roy was never taught the basics. I will give Hopkins credit for the win but I wouldn't look at it as a huge win.
I don't believe that Shane deserves a fight with PBF. If PBF don't want it then he shouldn't give him it, it's not ducking. Floyd's the man and he calls the shots. When Mosley was on top he didn't give Floyd a chance. With that said, I would love to see Floyd shut Mosley up.
Mayweather would outbox with any size gloves or ring or rules.
Put him in a phone booth with Duran and you will see how good floyd is fighting in the pocket, up close and personal.
15? you guys think Floyd is a lazy ass bum I see. Try sparring 15 Minute rounds, forget about 15 rounds, how about 15minute rounds?
If it's about stamina and having the skills to run when he has to run and not get caugh ton the ropes?
Damn I understand Duran was unbeatable and all but it frustrates me cause we'll never get to see this fight happening so everyone can see how wrong you all are about Duran chasing Floyd and making him fight and somehow throw him off his gameplan...You can give Floyd any size gloves, any ring, any fighter oP4P and you will see a defensive genius with cat like reflexes win a "boring" decision under any circumstances.
Edited somethings cause I wrote it too fast.
I second that
Hopkins would beat Floyd if they were the same size. Real talk. Floyd can only fight going forward when he is up against smaller guys. B-Hop in his prime imposed his will on a solid man in Glen Johnson and we already knew he had good defense. That is the Hopkins that people should judge when they talk about a prime Hopkins.
People tend to forget that Floyd started in super featherweight. You judge him on fighting smaller men like Marquez and Hatton but you forget he fought a bigger Oscar and won that fight.
The only thing Floyd can do better is shoulder roll. Please tell me one thing other than a better looking shoulder roll Floyd does? Who has more punches to their game?
Floyd has the best defense in boxing. The stats prove it.
your dad sees like all of us, floyd looking great against subpar opposition. theres a reason why ali, duran, hagler, hearns, leonard, etc all have losses on their record and didnt look as good as floyd, they fought all the best competition in their careers. cant say the same for floyd. floyd will never clean out the ww division. he didnt come back for that, he came back for a couple big money fights.
You need to relax, quit making assumptions. Let him do his thing and judge him at the end. Maybe he is back to clean the division, only time will tell.
LOL, BHOP would maul him for however long it lasted and when he lands more than 10 clean shots, if that, Floyd is sobbing in the corner with a fat lip and black eye.
Bernard does the same right and dip punch that Money does, except with a lot more power....he would not only have the reach, height, and power advantages but pretty close in speed.
pretty close in speed? wow.. people really hate on floyd.
