Will Hopkins get any credit if he beats Roy Jones?

like alot of people on here are saying, if a 36 year old calzaghe did, a 45 year old hopkins sure as hell can.

The double standards of this board. If Jones wins against a 45 year old Hopkins there will be about 40 "Ya'll musta forgot!" threads. However if Hopkins wins, which will probably be the case there will be countless bashing threads. Puzzled as to why you cannot comprehend this. Don't mean to sound like a prick but its really pretty obvious. On one hand you have a guy in the top 4 pound for pound coming off a victory against the Middleweight Champion of the World who is still yet to be dominated in his entire career and on the other you have a guy without a relevant victory on the elite stage for 6 years. I would hardly say it is fukn rocket science, son.

Hopkins finally swallowed his pride and settled to 50-50 even though he is by far the more relevant of the two at the moment. After Roy calling in to his interview, and more or less pushing for a fight against Hopkins, when Hopkins said he wanted to fight Dawson or Adamek many on this board said that Hopkins was trying to avoid the fight, indicating that he was afraid. Now that he has turned around and said fukk it, took 50-50 when he has little to proove in a fight that means more to Jones at the moment, will you guys who were stating that he was avoiding Jones (you know who you are) give the man credit if he beats him? did Calzaghe get credit for makin' Roy look bad?!?.....come on bully!!.....you know how the haters get down my dude!!!.....B.Hop aint gettin' no credit for this one.......its the NEXT one that'll have the haters on mute......Dawson or Adamek!!!!

I'm with those who said no and little, so why is B-Hop wasting his time, when there was ALOT of options? ALOT! I'm guessing money and an easy win that he has wanted for a long time. I don't blame him for taking it.

No, he won't. Jones is not relevant at the elite level any more. What more needs to be done to prove it? WHat does he need to go another 6 years without beating even a B/B+ level fighter? I'm not happy Roy is taking this fight. I was all good with him doing the retirement rounds after getting touched up by Joe and just fighting C/B- guys til he had had enough, but Bernard is still a beast and I just don't think Roy has it anymore to compete at that high level. Also, to those who will respond, please spare me the style beats fights line. I'm aware of all that shit, I just don't think it applies when a fighter is a shell of his former self.

It will be mixed. Some will give him credit for "finally" beating someone with faster hands or whatever the myth is that is supposedly his kryptonite, others will point out jones already beat him in '93 in their "primes" and Jones is shot. So he might get a little credit, but not a lot. On the other hand, if he were to lose, even though he himself is 45 years old, prepare for the "hopkins has always been overrated!" "Jones OWNS Hopkins always & forever!" etc. etc. etc. type threads. At the end of the day this is a grudge match that the fans wanted. That's all it is, this fight was made based on popular demand. All it proves is who is better NOW. i like these 2 fighters but i will give full credit to this almost 50 year old man ,hopkins is incredible

Hopkins' last 5 fights were a lot more competitive than Jones' last 5. People still view Hopkins as a top P4P fighter today whereas Jones' isn't on a single top 10 P4P list. I will give Hopkins credit if he wins but a Jones' will look a lot better as Hopkins looked great against Pavlik. People will often bring up how Jones' is washed up and shot if he loses. I'm a huge RJJ fan, he is one of my favourite fighters and I believe prime vs prime he beats a lot of opponents but Hopkins is at a higher level right now. When you lose your reflexes all you have is the basics and Roy was never taught the basics. I will give Hopkins credit for the win but I wouldn't look at it as a huge win. This is just a good fight for the fans, and as Natas said.. this is just to see who is better NOW.... which SHOULD be Bernard, based on everything. This is like the Joe fight for me, I have the same stance... I can see Roy winning, I can see how he can do it... but he probably SHOULDNT based on everything. The other intangible is Bernard being inactive for so long and at his age.. but if he takes a tune up then that's real good for bernard, and we can see how they look in their tune ups. It's a decent win because of the whole rivarly thing, but I really hope he doesn't retire after. He should still fight Adamek/Dawson afterwards

im very confident that hopkins will beat him,and il give him the same amount of credit i did too calzaghe for beating jones (an average amount)
