Canelo got caught roiding and it got brushed under the rug. If you mention it today you get called a number of slurs, people want to forget it ever happened. The man is clearly taking PEDs.
LOL you have the damn needle king as your photo.
Betervbiev mother could not pick him out of a lineup while Kov is a bigger name than ggg a fighter than Canelo was able to produce a million plus buy with.
DAZN will continue to demand the GGG fight and continue to sabatage every other fight for Canelo so he gets forced off the date and does not fight until July 4th.
What they were charging was unsustainable. Just like boxing PPVs.
The artists adapted. Charge the money for your performances. Plus take steady income from streaming services.
Maybe we'll see steadier income for boxers from subscription channels... and the big spikes in money coming for performing on a card. Maybe then we'll see guys fighting more than once or twice a year.
It wasn't unsustainable. Revenue went up until it became super easy to steal without basically no fear of consquences.
Yeah the artist adapted by not becoming artists in the first place.
People used to illegally download music. The industry responded through disruption with apps like Spotify. More people paying less per person.
Who downloads albums to an iPod or burns CDs now?
People will pay if it's easier and reasonably priced. You just can't charge them huge fees for something that they can otherwise get for free with a bit of effort.
The industry cratered and it has taken 20 years to match the revenue the industry made at its peak. Adjusted for inflation the music industry is still down a third in revenue from its peak. Throw in that there are less than half of the working musicians today as there was in 2000 and less than half new albums released today than in 2000.
This might be good for the consumer but it is not good for the industry and 99.9 percent of the boxers in the medium to long term.
Remember when people thought Canelo would just fight 10 cans with this deal yet he is 2 for 2 taking real challenges and marketable fights. bbb side is now 3 for 3 in fights that dazn can't market.
... If DAZN doesn't get bankrupt soon, they will have to find a way to get rid of GGG huge contract...
DAZN is paying around 20 million for this fight just to the headliners. This is a fight they created in order to try to force Canelo's hand into a third GGG fight. And they have already just written this fight off as a sunk cost. So, yeah they have to find a way out of his contract.
That's irrelevant. Canelo waited 2 years till he aged. Canelo turned pro at 15 and wasnt' ducked like ggg was. GGG also has been boxing since he was 10. 400 amateur fights take a toll once you go pro. At 37 you lose reflexes and speed. Human biology. If age didn't matter boxers would compete till they're 80.
Canelo waited 2 years so GGG could actually be a draw and could make some money.
If ggg wants the fight so bad why does he not offer up his slice of the DAZN money to make the fight? Why does he keep demanding stupid non-starter stuff like having the fight outside of Vegas?
that is exactly right
his entire legacy was built on... " they ducking me doe "... as they maneuvered Golovkin AWAY from dangerous fights
unbelievably, there are still dumb-cvnt casual fans who parrot that rubbish
the casuals will believe anything... if they truly want to
You got that right. I keep seeing nonsense like GGG had awful promotion. Dude had endorsements with Apple and Jordan Brand and was in their national ad campaigns. What other boxer has had this? Not the last American gold medalist, not Floyd, hell not even ODL had this kind of mainstream run. But, he was let down.
Dude was the face of HBO for what 6 or 7 years? And he killed boxing there and he is well on his way to killing dazn too.
Y'all have to stop doing this. If you had him winning, that's fine but stop stating the majority had it the same as if it's some sort of fact.
This. It should be obvious by now that every single fan that GGG has posts online on Boxing forums, every single one. So yeah when you have all 900 of them in the echo chamber repeating this myth they start to believe their nonsense. Since the over million Canelo fans do not post online reality is not given a voice.
He gave up his date in Sept and used all his leverage so he wouldnt have to fight Golovkin essentially spitting in the face of the company that gave him a 1/3 of a billion and basically saying he couldn’t give a f.uck about their success because that’s the biggest fight the platform could offer
You mean the company that can not even be bothered to talk to him and ask him how he sees his career moving forward and what fights he would like to make? You mean the company that did not call him before signing a fighter to "9 figure deal" with the expectation that he would fight.
So this is the thread in a nutshell: At what point did it become acceptable anyway to use a fighter being "boring" as an excuse not to fight him if hes one of the best?
The 24th Olympiad in 684 BC looks to be about right. Its called prizefighting not alphabet soup fighting for a reason, you fight to make more money and a belt is a means to that goal not the goal itself.
what makes Canelo this super exciting fighter over Andrade? What were these exciting performances? Can anybody name them?
Ask the largest cable boxing audience since 2006 that watched Canelo on HBO. Ask the 1.4 million people that bought a PPV just because he was on it. Ask the 600k people that figured out what a dazn is, downloaded it just to watch him when the platform is lucky to break 50k for any other fight.
And let's face it - are you gonna tell me GGG couldn't have done better with a more mainstream promoter.?.. Had you heard of Tommy Loeffler before GGG? How many fighters did he have in his stable? How many middleweights? What major middleweight champions had he promoted or great fights had he made... nah. Dude was facing an uphill struggle from the start, if he hadn't got picked up by HBO he might well have ended up like another Andrade.
Weird, people talk like any fighter can just choose the fights they want as if having a top promoter with a decent stable doesn't make a difference whilst ignoring the fact that even in the best of conditions when both guys are under the same promoter major fights can still take years to come together... leastways, they ignore it when they want to. Course you get some guys who can pick their fights - your Canelos, Floyds, Oscars... the guys who are worth enough that the sport distorts around them, but that just ain't how it works for the vast majority of fighters.
If GGG had any other promotor he would have the career of Kov. He would not have Apple and Jordan Brand ads you know how I can say this with nearly 100 percent confidence? Because, Spence, Pac, Mayweather, Ward, Canelo, ODL never had this level of mainstream deals.
If HBO boxing was 1990s HBO boxing they would not have built their coverage around a Central Asian fighting Cans on the cheap.
"Whatever you think of Golovkin the fighter, there is a serious mismatch here between his team’s words and their deeds..."
https://www.thefightcity.com/golovkin-vs-ward-gennady-golovkin-andre-ward-kovalev-boxing/
I noticed those signs 2 years earlier
it is aboutfkntime that the excuses stopped... Kellerman kept it real
You are not being ducked if you are not willing to accept fights even if they are unfavorable terms. If Ward demanded 90-10 split we can have a conversation about if this is a duck. But, if you are not getting the fights you want and turn down a 20 percent split or 6 figure flat fee you are pricing yourself out.
This is the entire myth of though of GGG. He was sold as the boogyman that cared about his legacy. In reality, he would only take fights that kept that Canelo/Cotto fight alive. That is fine he is fighting only for the money but don't lie to his 357 fans that its about unification.
In case you can't count 5 million is more money than 3 million. So why wouldn't Davis wanna fight Farmer?? .
Unless his team isn't confident that Davis can beat farmer....??
Its short money. Davis is building towards long money. Yeah its 2 million less in cash today but he losses 3 million or more dollars worth of future promotion going on a dead platform.
He can certainly understand English well, i’ve seen him answer English questions without a translator but speaking in Spanish. Maybe he’s just not confident enough to speak it publicly yet.
Or more likely he can’t fully say what he wants to say and would probably end up getting his quotes twisted by the media if he can’t completely put across what he wants to say. Apparently that’s the reason GGG often speaks in his native language these days too, because he was being misquoted because of his basic English.
I understand that. I can understand Hebrew perfectly well, but my speaking level is so basic that i wouldn’t be that comfortable knowing my words are going to be published in the media and taken as gospel.
I remember when Sammy Sosa was in the Congressional hearings around steroids and he was getting sh-- for not speaking English despite doing interviews for years in English. It was exactly this there is a huge difference between a casual conversation with no real ramifications and one where you can face purgery because you either misunderstood the question or misspoke your answer.
Of course Kov was up with mostly 10-8 rounds too. If not for the ref stopping the fight I probably would have even given him a 9-9 round for the 11th he was just that dominating. Somehow this proves ggg is the best.
Am I doing this right?
The first boxer paid a million dollars for a fight was in 1927. The first baseball player did not get a million for a season until 1979. The first NFL player was in the 80s. Point being fighters have been receiving mega paydays much longer than any other sport and they still receive mega paydays. Hell you got guys that can draw flys that are getting 6 fight 9 figure deals (allegedly).
Because Canelo makes the rules and Kovalev really has no say and if he wants that retirement paycheque he& his team will agree to whatever date Canelo wants
Obviously picking a date so close is meant to be a bit of a mind f.uck for Kovalev and meant to make Kov uncomfortable and put him at a disadvantage.
Plus there is only around 7 available Saturday’s in Nov/ Dec and DAZn will want a different Pay period for Canelo and AJ , Wilder / Ortiz probably has 1 of those Sat in early Nov and Canelo / DAZn don’t want to go a week or 2 after that fight ,
December locked up with Aj/Ruiz and a week later Fox has a show
Nov 2 might be the only date that makes sense
This right here. There are 9 Saturdays in the two months.
Nov 30th, Dec 21st and Dec 28th are iffy to bad dates due to holidays.
Dec 7th already has AJ/Ruiz but it is also the worst possible Saturday of the year to have a fight in the US. Its the conference championship games that day so you will get next to no free media in the lead up to the fight and no coverage post fight.
That takes us from 9 to 5 and only 1 is in past Nov 23rd. The Dec date or the mid Nov dates very well could be the Ortiz Wilder fight too.
Then throw in T Mobile availability. Dec 14th is already booked with UFC. Nov 9th is booked for the Rodeo finals. The 16th looks to be open. The 2nd is booked with an NHL game. Not sure what venue they are looking to have the fight at.
So really if the fight is going to take place by the end of the year does it really matter all that much 1 or maybe 2 weeks?
Sorry guys but the fight got called off. Golovkin fans have jobs and couldn't get time off WORK. My apologies to the Canelo fans for using that four letter word.
This is the comedy post of the year. G fans can't afford group on tickets or a PPV they have no jobs.
GGG and Canelo were both paid well for easy intro fights with DAZN.
GGG got Rolls and Canelo got Fielding. The idea was obviously to set up a fight between GGG and the winner of Canelo vs Jacobs.
GGG was ready to keep his side of the bargain, but Canelo wasn't.
GGG priced himself out of this fight the second he started to cry about moving the fight away from Vegas. He knew that was non-negotiable.
His version of events makes the most sense given the evidence and much sense than many of the comments around him popping. He popped for trace amounts of Clen which is used as a cutting agent which given the length of the time to the fight does not make sense to use. And is used as a bronchodilator which if this was the reason for use he could easily get TUE to use more effective drugs. So we have a low motive to use Clen.
Combine that with a history of contaminated meat in Mexico to the point where a hundred kids popped. That the NFL and other sports leagues warn players of before they vacation or play games there. That Canelo popped for levels consistent with contaminated meat. That he tested for a level that is well below doses needed to be effective. Oh, right I forgot his trainers were butchers so they have a superpower to test and see everything the cow consumed before it was butchered.
It wasn't actually confirmed. We'll likely never know if it was intentional or not.
Since it was for Clen over 2 months out he is either has the worst doping programming in history or it was the meat. Clen is for cutting and he has no need to cut that far out. It's also a bronchodilator but if he was going to use it for this effect he would just get a TUE like everyone else for other versions that are legal to use.
