Boxing went downhill when fighters started getting the mega pay days and ego's getting out of control.
Dana is actually doing a great fan service by keeping UFC fighters pays in check and keeping the power with the promoter. The fans want to see a fight? Dana makes it happen.
Fans in boxing want to see a fight? They'll see it when the fighters are past their primes or if they ever see it at all.

horrible example
Perfect example. Promoters are the the team like the owners. Fighters are the athlete. Promoters are the owners. Put on the event take the financial risk etc
Boxing is currently in a slump because Haymon is trying to monopolize the game. Fairly simple. The overpaying started with Haymon to steal fighters, and now he moves his pieces very carefully, to not lose any belts to outside sources.
Considering how this sport is really not that Popular compared to other sports...yeah you can make a strong argument that ALL of these fighters are overpaid especially when guys are getting paid big money but yet they're not even much of a DRAW. They don't sell much tickets and they don't move the needle ratings wise but yet they're getting paid MILLIONS basically just for showing up and fight anybody
That being said Networks and Apps are still spending big money on the sport so it is BIG MONEY to be made in this sport. However, it would indeed be better IF guys was actually earning their money instead of them being overpaid not because they're worth it but more so because DAZN, Top Rank, PBC or whoever want to show each other up. Now this is great for the fighters and they're getting paid in the process and in the middle of this massive Split in boxing among Promoters and Networks/Apps
With that being said, no I don't want to see Boxers get Peanuts like the UFC while UFC itself rack in BILLIONS. People tune in to see the TALENT, not the Brand!
So yall these guys getting payed peanuts like MMA fighters? Fck wrong with yall. I dont care how much they cherry pick.
Taking away their money aint gonna make them fight each other. Its gon make them not pursue boxing in the first place!!
Total Nonsense, half of Jerry Jones wealth is DIRECTLY TIED to the fact that the Dallas Cowboys is a money maker. Him building the current stadium gave him a billion dollars outright after 2 years in value.
Jerry Jones made his fortune on Oil and his Comstock Resources company was already very wealthy before the Dallas Cowboys
NFL is different it's the only sport in the world where ownership take more than 40% of the profits 90% of owner buys team for prestige and not to make money from it
Owners don't make their money on the club they own they are already wealthy when they purchase the team
You think the Emirate prince is making a profit off Manchester City

Are football players worth more or the owners

The first boxer paid a million dollars for a fight was in 1927. The first baseball player did not get a million for a season until 1979. The first NFL player was in the 80s. Point being fighters have been receiving mega paydays much longer than any other sport and they still receive mega paydays. Hell you got guys that can draw flys that are getting 6 fight 9 figure deals (allegedly).
Most of his fighters are irrelevant, of course he can get away with paying them peanuts. Right now the third most popular MMA fighter in the world is who?
Dempsey-Tunney had like 120k people there, didn't it?
It's actually kind of cool people didn't have that many entertainment options back then. All glued to the radio or trying to get in with another 100k people to look at a glimpse of a fight really far away.
50 MILLION PEOPLE SAW THAT FIGHT.... crazy. US POP WAS 119 MILLION... double crazy...
Dempsey earned a couple of million dollar paydays which is like $30M+ in today’s money. Many of the old time fighters like Louis, Pep, Robinson, LaMotta got paid very well, but most of them pissed it away.
Actually, boxing started going downhill when champions could start cherry picking their own challengers, and there are four champions per weight class. Boxers made insane amounts of money 100 years ago, it didn’t water down the sport.
Dana’s also taken a lot of that money and reinvested into the sport. He has academies and training facilities all over the world. Any UFC fighter can go to Vegas and use the training facilities, and have their whole training camp there, free of charge. I think that’s pretty sweet.
