This OP has some technical flaws in his own game. The disparaging nature of his very "question" reveals his true intention, which is to undermine the achievements of others. His argument is predicated on the presumption that either or both fighters in question are overrated to begin with, and is therefore inherently illogical. He's dry snitched himself with ineffective aggression and poor ring generalship. TKO.
Your statement "In other words" validates my point. Still nothing but opinions and assumptions couched as fact. Your original post is a statement disguised as a question. You quantify without qualifying. I can't directly answer a question that doesn't track to begin with. Inane, obtuse and clouded with inherent contradictions. Reread. Rethink, and Reinvent. They did.
Lol at everyone saying Roy Jones. An average flyweight has more speed than him.[/QUOTE Speed relative to size is the only thing that matters here. A talented 80 lb. 12 y.o. has faster hands than your pick. Anyone can move their hands fast. No flyweight ever looked so much faster than their opponents as Jones did at middle. Lol yourself over to Youtube or something and watch some fights.
Easy call. Roy Jones Jr. At 160/168. Roy threw accurate power-shot combinations with real danger from all angles, often at distance. 5-6-7 hooks at once. One punch overhand right knockouts from 5 feet away. Smaller guys like Pernell, Meldrick, Camacho had shoe-shine speed with just enough power to get respect. Jones killed with his speed.
Last 40 years. Pernell, Meldrick Taylor, Camacho, James Toney, Floyd Mayweather Jr....Lots of candidates here, no doubt. But not even "The Greatest", nor either "Sugar Ray" had more natural ability than Roy Jones Jr.... Who the flip said Khan? Pffft
He had quite of a bit of losses. Just wonder what are you guys thoughts on him
Way too many "Problems" with this post but just in case you're referring to the great Lightweight Champion Roberto Duran of Panama, he certainly ranks in most peoples top 10 P4P. The greatest lightweight since Henry Armstrong, maybe ever. More wins than Floyd Mayweather has fights. Way more. Moved up to welterweight and beat a prime Sugar Ray Leonard (the only guy to do that). Took on anyone, anywhere, anytime in one of boxing's greatest eras. Bigger men, slick boxers, feared sluggers, ATG's. Didn't matter. In his prime he was a boxer/puncher with elite level skills; defense, footwork, blazing speed, SCARY power, and just flat-out mean. If he had you hurt you were done. The very definition of fierceness. I'm barely scratching the surface here....
I read posts here where people say Matthyse, Sergio, PBF and Ali as some of the best looking ones.
Which boxers in your opinion are the ugliest?
Who's the gayest dude you know with your name and social security number ?
Leonard was actually out-boxed by Hearns in the early and later rounds of their first fight. Leonard was great enough to sell out and get the TKO anyway. But great defense usually beats great offense and Mayweather, being more strictly defensive-minded than Leonard, fights a different fight against Hearns. I think Tommy follows Floyd around unable to cut the ring off. Mayweather controls distance and circles away from Hearn's right hand and jabs to Hearn's body. Hearns was a great boxer in the amateurs who became a great puncher as a pro...but even Hearns can't outbox Mayweather and I don't think Mayweather gives him a chance to land the right hand. I think Floyd by UD in a fight that could never compare to Leonard-Hearns I.
Idk about who's better but I could watch fat Toney operate in the pocket all day.
The fatter he got the more visible his skills became it seemed like.
Yes! So true man...I love the Jirov fight.
Kovalev can't find prime Jones. Jones did like to work off the ropes in spots. This is where he could occasionally be hit. Usually with a right hand. In this fight I think Kovalev follows Jones around, unable to cut the ring off. Lots of Jones left hooks to the body and counter hooks all night. Kovalev goes 12.
i'd have to go with the more proven fighter, Amir khan. Noone knows if spence is world level or not yet.
Ok dude, but who's this Noone guy & how does he know so much about Spence? I'll betcha Noone knows anything, really......But Khan has "proven" he can't take a big punch to the head. Over a scheduled 12, can Spence punch Khan in the head? Only Noone knows.
A Quick One
Algeri had Khan on Elvis legs...:lol1
Spence did what Manny...Khan...and Provodnikov could not do
KO Algeri:bottle:
70/30. Bolton. Ding! Body...Body...Head!...Necks?
Honestly I respect Hatton but he was never that good. He was like a Lucian Bute imo, and depression is a tool of the devil, Hatton should try going to church.
Nothing wrong with church but it's idiotic to pretend that depression isn't a medical condition requiring medical treatment. If YOU get prostate cancer, you'll be in the chemo line down at county just like everyone else.
Jones at 160 beats all, yes. Toney's more interesting though because i think styles would play a bigger role in his match-ups. Duran may be, all around, the greatest of the bunch but 160 is no good for him here. I see Toney effectively countering Leonard at this weight, potentially frustrating Ray. The brilliant Leonard would create his own chances against Toney but lacks the natural size and one-punch power to finish him. For me Hearns v Toney is where things get interesting. Who outboxes whom? Remember Hearns was boxing Leonard and winning their first fight with his stick, and while all these greats could crack, Tommy's right hand was one of the most dangerous punches anyone's ever thrown. That said, Hearns could be hurt while Toney was nails and Toney's defensive skills were off the chart. Hagler was the strongest of the group physically but nobody pushed James around at 160 either and when they tried, they paid. I see Hagler pressuring Toney and showing him different looks, switching sides and stalking with James making him miss a lot. Hearns could spark Toney out, but Hagler's the only one here including Jones, that could actually beat him up. All fun to contemplate and if I had to bet my lunch I guess I'd go: Toney d. Duran UD/lateTKO, Toney d. Leonard by Decision, Toney d. Hearns by Decision, and Hagler finally tracks Toney down for a lateTKO. Just my take. I considered all of these as 15 rd. title fights. Cool thread
Why even discuss those other boxers. They had their time. GGG & Kovalev are the best thing to ever happen to boxing. Move over Kelly Pavlik. If it wasn't for GGG & I'd quit watching boxing and become a fan of Sport Fishing honestly.
Why do all these people hate on them? Because they have nice smiles? So what they have great oral hygienist, you can't argue with their superiority in the ring.:luvbed: I love them dearly. In fact as of this moment they are Idols. I don't care about being in hell eternally!
My man's new to this game. Doesn't know about the true GOAT. Hasn't seen the power, the speed, timing, footwork, defense...Muffakin Charlie Z
Sometimes a guy wants something to be true so badly he forces himself to believe it. In this case though, Mayweather's defense, footwork, accuracy, experience & ring IQ negate anything Khan can bring with him. He won't touch Floyd enough to set something up & he can't out-box him. Clinic
yea President Trump is a failure with 10 billion dollars net worth. maybe you can help build that wall in every american city for food and a tent?
I like em greedy, black like Idi, eyes beady, willin' to give to the needy
