Using the ***** logic , I am anointing Calzaghe the best ever.... Made fools out of Hopkins and Roy jones jr.... Retired undefeated with 46 wins and 32 kos. Yep , TBE baby
Joe beat a better, PRIME version Kessler while Froch lost his first fight to Mikkel and only defeated him after the Dane was shot.
And unlike Andre Ward, Calzaghe didn't need deliberate head butts and other illegal tactics nor a shady home referee like Jack Reiss to help him defeat Kessler.
Calzaghe-Kess was a great fight. Awesome win for Joe.
no that wouldn't make any sense. read the transcripts. hopkins was keeping all the 3 million from showtime. so was calzaghe fighting for free? obviously not. also what happened is warren was trying to swindle hopkins because his side would have made more than 3 million. he said it in court.
You would estimate the site fees and the foreign fees and your end was going to amount to what? What was your best take on what your end was going to be?
we probably would have taken 2 million pounds the gate, maybe more-There was British TV at that time, I believe a pay-per-view show, Sky TV were the
broadcasters I worked with in the U.K. That would have gone out in prime time
so that's over 3 million US dollars just for the live gate plus the pay per view. calzaghe's side was walking away with much more than 3 million while hopkins side would be left with only 3. why would hopkins agree to to that? he asked for more and the fight fell apart. warren could have offered a 50-50 split of all uk revenue but i dont think he did that and the fight was scrapped.
Doesn't make any sense for a UK promoter to want to put the fight on in the UK?
Hopkins refused to go over to the UK so it's kind irrelevant about what the gate would have done.

Hops was a good win but it was a close fight. Jones was shot and pretty much a waste of time at that point.
Frank Warren got caught lying about what exactly?
Warren wanted to put the fight on in Wales obviously because he's a UK promoter but he was told it would have to take place in America by Hopkins who also wanted $3m.
Hopkins never thought his demands would be accepted which is why he panicked and came back asking for double. He's never even earned $6m for a single fight (except Oscar) in his career including up to now. :lol1:

Just to finish this thought...this is why boxing has lost so many fans, IMO...or at least one of the major reasons....and it is also the reason the UFC fanbase is growing...they make the big fights...UFC controls the matchups, no bull**** promoter or third entity...its Dana White giving the fans what they want...plain and simple...
I have a different opinion... honestly from what I have seen is that if white doesnt like the way the guy won or if he fought boring blah blah blah he goes and says well i dont think he deserves a title shot... im like wtf... its all in house fighting... for example... gus send jones to the er, even tho jones won of course... but instead of a rematch... jones fights someone else... gus fights someone else and loses so now no rematch for gus... :lame:
no. warren was caught lying so they asked for more money to go to wales.
The response we got was $3million and the fight would have to take place in the United States. After a little scratching of the head, we said 'Okay, done.' Frank Warren agreed on the spot
later in court warren said-if that fight had happened, we would have put it on in a place called Cardiff in Wales. I think we would have around 30 to 40,000 people

No Calzaghe agreed to face Hopkins in America. Hopkins backed out of the deal.
Btw why do you care where a fight is held anyway? You say you don't care how much money is offered but you seem to care about location :lol1:

I dont and Im not... Just showing you that I know what Im talking about what happened in 2002... hopkins said 6 mil cuz he would have went over to wales... you know since cal had a fear of flying, which is well documented btw
No Calzaghe agreed to go to America for the fight.
One common theme for the majority of fighters in the past two decades, after doing some extensive research....they all seem to be duckers or cherry pickers....i think i can find an article with an opinion on every fighter that says they ducked multiple fights or cherry picked fights..

He said $6million because he knew it wasn't available. $3m would have been his highest ever purse. I thought you didn't care about money LOL....so why are you defending Hopkins?

Really? How many times has joe calslappy fought outside of the uk?
Why didn't calslappy fight glen johnson? oh thats right a "back injury" but then calslappy fought someone else a month later.
Also, hopkins was the defending middleweight champion, who just previously beat trinidad yes? They were also in different divisions. Hopkins being in the middleweight and calslappy being in the super middle. They offered hopkins 3 mil to move up and fight calslappy, he said 6 mill and the fight was completely off, not that hopkins backed out.

Ali was considered past his prime by the time the fight began. In the 60's, Ali was known for being able to avoid getting hit. He was a "dancer" who had slowed by the time the 1974 fight in Zaire had come along. What folks didn't know was how great of a jaw he had, nor did anyone anticipate Ali's boxing brilliance. Even his own trainers were shocked by the "Rope a Dope" strategy.
Also, Ali had previously lost to Joe Frazier and Ken Norton. Both men had been knocked out (in two rounds each) by George Foreman.
We see George Foreman nowadays as this grandfatherly type, a pastor who sells a fat free grill and who has a bunch of kids named George. This was an intentional PR move by Foreman when he returned to the ring in the 1990s. In part, it was his way of making fun of himself for being a 40+ year old ex-champ who was attempting a comeback. The George Foreman of 1974 was a brutal and mean guy who people were (rightfully) scared of. Many folks thought Foreman was going to kill Ali, including some in Ali's camp.
Fear of flying doe. So you saying that the undisputed middleweight champion would have to travel to calslappy's home to fight, cuz joe was "scared of flying"? Funny that when hopkins and RJJ got old, he quickly overcame his fear.:wow:

I'm certain Cortez would have DQ'd Ortiz if he did that to Floyd, no way he would have got away with it.
Yeah let's just forget about Ortiz deliberate head butt which admittedly he used to break Mayweather's nose.
Or the numerous rabbit punches. Where was the DQ by Cortez?
Hopkins ran away from a deal which would have seen him fight Calzaghe in 2002.
