First off, I may be one of the only guys on here who is a PBF, Cotto and Pacman fan but I'm not sure that Manny Stewart can bring anything new to Cotto's game. When Cotto was at 140 he used his boxing skills more...you know, footwork, the jab, but then like a lot of fighters he fell in love wth his power. He turned into a PAIN type fighter like Margarito, only with a little more lateral movement. This fight is going to be good because these guys are fighters with NO QUIT in them. If Cotto was a quitter he DEFINATLY would've quit against Clottey as bad as that cut was (see Camacho Jr. vs JJ Leija to see a quitter). I got Cotto winning only because he is going to wear on Pac and wear on him all night. Goldie was weak that night and Hatton ran into a early punch and was out on his feet fighting on instinct.
Pac hasn't fought a guy this big for sustained rounds yet, and Cotto is punishing. Pac can pull it out IF HE CAN TAKE THE PAIN.
Considering Wlad almost took AJs head off and on the road in AJ's back yard. Fury is like a stealth attack, Wlad never launched his missiles.
I think Wlad came at AJ because he didn't pull the trigger with Fury. I believe if he fought Fury in a rematch it would've looked different. Wlad fought like he was waiting for the perfect shot, instead of trying to create the opportunity for it. When Wlad got in with AJ he refused to make the same mistake again so he let his hands go. Wilder has a decent jab, good hand, and foot speed, and a long reach. If Fury was a lefty I wouldn't give Wilder a shot, because he'd nullify Wilder's jab like Ortiz did. I think Wilder will be able to land that one shot he needs, mainly because he never gets discouraged and Fury will win most of the early rounds.
I was shocked and hurt. Then i was like "the long count tho!!" Lol. If we had been paying attention, we'd have noticed Tyson's decline in the Bruno fight before Douglas. Once he left Kevin Rooney his skills deteriorated, and he started to look for one big shot.
Difficult question to answer. I think their power is very different. Wilder is more akin to Julian Jackson - he generates force through velocity and has a lot of 1 shot KOs. Foreman is more like Golovkin - someone with thudding power, naturally very heavy hands.
One guy is much more likely to knock you the the F out. The other guy is more likely to make you quit.
^^This is how I feel about it too.
It's a good thing for Wilder that Wlad is waiting. Wilder needs more rounds, he needs competition against some guys who can take a shot. Arreola would be a good fight for him. If I were in Wlad's camp I would make the Wilder fight next to prevent him gaining any more experience. I think Wlad believes he can take Wilder at any time, and he wants the fight to be big enough for ppv. I think after about two more fights Wilder will be able to take the entire HW division.
Every martial arts teaches your punches begin at your feet, through your hips, then your arms. Weak base, weak punch. Try punching a bag with roller skates on.
Of course your feet must be planted, but leg explosiveness is not all due to muscle size, or strength. It actually has a lot to do with length of your lower leg tendon. Or bodybuilders would be the fastest runners and highest jumpers. Swinging a bat, a golf club, and punch power depends on a stable base, and rotational hip force. Lead with your hips, follow with your upper body.
This is how sports other than golf works. If the ref don't call it, it ain't cheating. It is not the athletes job to police the sport. Bball players push, grab shorts, trip each other and the ref has to call it or they dont care. American football players hold on every call, pull jerseys, and do all kinds of dirty stuff in a pile, but the ref must call it. All pro athletes know dirty tricks because most of them are hypercompetitive and they wll always try to win by any means. Golfers police themselves so if that is what you want watch golf. BTW in boxing, dirty tricks are taught in the gym, how else can you defend against them.
I think Floyd was real smart to fight Canelo when he did. The kid is talented and young. He still hasn't hit his peak/prime yet. His only downfall might be his weight. His body hasn't fully matured yet and i think he is too short to dominate the higher weight classes. He will be around way longer than GGG so maybe he can compete at MW for years to come but he better keep it 160 at the most.
Holyfield dominates the division and beats the k bros. Neither one of them are good infighters like Bowe was and Evander had a chin forged from steel. Holy hit Foreman with a 17 punch combination. One of the most amazing things I've ever seen in a ring.
It's no coincidence the very best fighters of recent years fight near their walking around weight and they all have great chins. Guys like Sergio, bhop, Floyd, PAC, ggg, rigo etc
If you're weight draining yourself, more likely you will not take a shot as well unless you have one of the greatest chins of all time like margarito and rios
This is the truth!! I really wonder what weight class everyone would fall into if they were at their real weight class.
I've always hated the cut water approach for wrestling and boxing. Especially wrestling because High Schools do it to kids.
In reality this ballooning up in weight of 20lbs or more hurts the fighter more than it helps.
Sometimes it hurts the other fighter. When Gotti KOd Gamache i thought he might've killed him.
It's not that simple, it's because Maidana has a better jab he steps in with and an overhand right Mayweather couldn't roll because of it's awkwardness. Then couple that in with Maidana's dirtiness and there you have it.
This ^^^^ Pac throws from multiple lateral angles but in a straight line. Pac isn't as big, doesn't fight dirty, nor does he throw big overhand punches. Pac fights completely different from any of the fighters Floyd has had so called problems with.
Yes, but the disadvantages of cutting that much weight, outweigh the advantages IMO.
Working to cut that much weight takes time away from actual training, which hurts the fighter. Cutting weight you simply can't anymore makes you weak and less likely to be able to take a good punch. Not to mention ballooning over night 20+ pounds will definitely affect you that night in the ring.
I agree. It is overall a bad practice, which if you really look at why it happens, it almost amounts to cherry picking. BUT... I do understand this is a very brutal sport, so the risk does need to match the reward. I don't have to possibly piss blood or face brain damage for a payday, so i won't call any fighter a cherry picker. The fighter's people are just looking for the most advantageous fights for their guy, with the highest reward. In this sport, i have no problems with that.
avoiding to be weigh on fight night should be illegal
You do realize that weigh in is just for TV don't you? It is an HBO creation, like measuring arm pit to fist. NO commission requires it.
How is it envious if their basing their opinion? Do they have to say Floyd will win to not be envious ? You Floydtards are retards
Dude. He was just summarizing Floyd Sr vid. Those weren't his opinions.
I haven't seen too many people of Mexican descent that are natural heavyweights. Most I have met or seen were under 6 feet tall, or over 6 feet and thinly built.
I just like the fact that no matter what he and Floyd's relationship was like Sr. ALWAYS defends his son. That is what a father should do. No matter how old your kids are they are still your baby.
