bunch of frauds with no skill who are taking dieurticis and doing anything possible to come in at the weight then baloon up 20 lbs
see mikey garcia
see keith thurman
you put these guys in their regular weight class what would happen to these so called "skilled fighters"\
they would get sparked the **** out
Your body is your responsibility. It would be very sad if someone got brain damage or worse died because they tried to cut weight on the day of a fight, but people get injured and die doing dumb stuff everyday.
Worse is when your health is put at risk because of a decision someone else has made imo
how about a politician making a decision to send you to war
a weight limit after the weight limit?
LOL
you shouldn't try to mess with ppl rehydration. it's dangerous.
if a guy can make weight it's on him how much he wants to cut.
the day before weigh in and rehydrating has saved lives imo.
no it don't. the brain has a cushion of liquid around it and when dried out it is gone and one day is not enough to replenish it. that is why you see more brain damaged fighters at the lower classes then hvyweights
That's the first time I've seen Thurman weigh that much on fight night. Which was 160 against Guerrero.
He was 153 in the ring against Bundu.

and that is why Thurman ran from the powder puff puncher bandu

I am all for that.
making weight the way it is set up is a disgrace. fine them 30 thousand for every pound over weight come fight nite
Agree
This weight thing is fckuing bull$*it
one day you make 147 and the next day you fight at 160....it should not be allowed especially at lower weight classes

Seems MMA had similar discussions
You do realize that weigh in is just for TV don't you? It is an HBO creation, like measuring arm pit to fist. NO commission requires it.
Who cares if a commission requires it? It adds some valuable information to the fight. I like to know what a fighter weighs when he is in the ring. I like to know that a MW actually weighs 180 in the ring against his opponent who weighs 165 or so.
I think weigh ins the day before a fight are fine as long as the amount of weight they are permitted to put back on is limited to X number of pounds. And the final weigh in should be done in the dressing room before the fight, not the morning of the fight. Any fighter who weighs over the agreed upon or regulated limit should be penalized by a loss of a percentage of his purse which will go to his opponent. Say 10% per pound over the limit. I like 80sFighter's idea of how to calculate the permitted weight limits.
Strict enforcement of such rules would result in huge changes as to which fighters fight in which division.
I would also pass a rule stating that no catch weights are permitted in title fights while I was at it. :)
avoiding to be weigh on fight night should be illegal

10 lbs across all divisions wouldn't make sense since 10 lbs is massive at lw and irrelevant at cw, but I wouldn't mind a formula such as:
Weight (night of fight) shall not exceed (interval between sanctioned division and next division up * 2).
So welterweights (154-147=7*2=14+147=161) couldn't exceed 161 on the night of the fight and so on.
It would be more strict in a perfect world but we all know the fighters would just starve themselves until right before their walkouts and end up dying in the ring if the threshold was too tight.
There has to be some limit on rehydration in boxing, nobody should be allowed to gain 20 lbs between the weigh in and the fight.
Also I think a weigh in 1 week before the fight is a good idea.
Well, it was definitely abuse that Thurman was 10lbs higher than Guerrero. IIRC it was 162 vs 152. That was crazy, but common. Canelo vs Trout were basically LHW's on fight night, they were both 171-172.
But that's what makes an ATG - an ATG. Maywather and Pacquiao fight exactly at the weight they walk in, 148-150 and, they are constantly at 10-15lb weight disadvantage, AND, they still win. Like, does anyone really give a 162lb Thurman a real chance at beating a mere 150lb Mayweather? This is where skill outweighs weight.
Guerrero just wasn't good enough to deal with Thurman's movement, power and speed. They could have both been 152lbs, Guerrero wasn't wrestled down and manhandled, he was simply outboxed and outlanded.
True. The handspeed deficit hurt Guerrero more than anything else.
Pretty sure Floyd rehydrated 7.5 lbs against Jesus Chavez. He looked a little off that night and never drained himself that much again. These days though he refuses to be weighed on fight night, so we have no idea what he weighs in the ring.
Actually we do have an idea considering Mayweather didn't refuse to weigh in on fight night for Maidana 1 (148) Canelo (150) and a good number of other fights.
Yes, but the disadvantages of cutting that much weight, outweigh the advantages IMO.
Working to cut that much weight takes time away from actual training, which hurts the fighter. Cutting weight you simply can't anymore makes you weak and less likely to be able to take a good punch. Not to mention ballooning over night 20+ pounds will definitely affect you that night in the ring.
I agree. It is overall a bad practice, which if you really look at why it happens, it almost amounts to cherry picking. BUT... I do understand this is a very brutal sport, so the risk does need to match the reward. I don't have to possibly piss blood or face brain damage for a payday, so i won't call any fighter a cherry picker. The fighter's people are just looking for the most advantageous fights for their guy, with the highest reward. In this sport, i have no problems with that.
True, but he also doesn't look any different that he looked previously, so it can be assumed that is he is any heavier than in other fights, it's not by much.
Does floyd actually pay your ashy foot azz to log on and post shiet like this?

Much more so Floyd to be honest. Pac has been been playing the weight game for years. Sometimes coming in 16lbs heavier than where he weighed in. Floyd has stayed within 0-5lbs of his weigh in weight his whole career. Pac gets the credit for beating so many bigger guys, but in reality, Floyd has been in the ring as the smaller guy more than Pac has.
Slurpy Slurp slurp! :lol1:
