no one thinks marg can win a decision? i think its possible that he comes on late and wins a split decision. I predict a margarito TKO, but he can win a decision.
Simple, they're building a superfight. Winner of Hopkins-Pavlik vs the winner of Jones Jr-Calzaghe. No matter who wins those fights, you're looking at a superfight when it's all said and done.
Scenarios:
Hopkins - Jones Jr II - megafight to end both their careers, Hopkins coming off a win over the undisputed MW champ, Jones putting the first L on Calzaghs record
Hopkins - Calzaghe II, a chance for revenge for Hopkins, puts the first L on Zags record and rides into the sunset
Pavlik - Jones Jr - Jones would have beaten Cal and Pavlik would be the #1 hypest boxer in the sport
Pavlik - Calzaghe - megafight
No matter which way you slice it you have 4 intriguing matchups coming out of this. Not just intriguing, but career defining. I personally would like to see Jones beat Calzaghe, then beat Pavlik, but I'm also a Hopkins fan so I'd like to see Hopkins-Jones II. It's been a great stretch for boxing so far.
Rahman complained about the cut to the doctor, which was WAY above the eyebrow, that he couldn't see, forcing the doctor to call the fight. Rahman was getting tagged in the 3rd round. Toney looked good, fought a smart fight and in my opinion would have taken him out in 7 to 9 rounds. Probably 7, since Hasim is not as durable as even a 40 year old Holyfield.
I think Rahman was looking for a way out.
His corner should of not let him out but what can you do its a catch 22
the ref should of stepped in when mosley started to connect again in the 10th
But lets face it i know safety comes first but they would of starved us from a beauty
of a finish from Mosley
It was a great finish but consider that Mosley was punching a heavy bag at that point. It was disgusting to me to see a guy knocked around the ring with no sense of where he is, when clearly the fight was over. Especially when you see so many fighters end up permanently damaged from shit like this
No. Blame the corner. There is NO WAY they should've let him even sit in the corner for the 60 seconds. Cold water does absolutely nothing.
On the strength of that, I think the trainer/camp should be banned from training fighters in America. They're methods had a potential to kill either fighter. Keep that shit in Mexico.
At least the corner had the smarts to throw in the towel in the 9th, which by the way Caiz didn't even acknowledge for **** sake. I'm sorry but you can't blame the corner entirely. It's the refs responsibility at that point to step in and call the contest, and when a guy is completely out of it and his corner has him answer the bell, you better be on your shit so when he takes 1,2,3 flush shots, it's game over. Not 15-20 ****ing punches.
Too late, but not way too late. He coulda halted it at the end of the 8th when he got knocked down. He only made it thru about 40 seconds of the 9th before it was called.
I agree. They should'nt have let him come out for the 9th and when Mosley jumped right on him I was yellin for the stoppage. It was a little late.
However, I think Caiz is a good ref.
Normally I'd agree on it just being a little late, but judging by the ferocity of punches that Mosley was landing, and the glass-eyes of Margarito, it was way too late in my opinion. He took flush bombs that any ref in their right mind would have stopped the damn fight. I can understand if you're seeing alot of blows deflected etc and you still think the champion has a shot to come back. But to me Caiz displayed horrible judgment on both accounts, and it could cost a fighter his career.
To me, 20 unanswered punches in the 9th round is way too late!!
i don't hate calzaghe at all, but i do rank bhop a shade ahead of him. i think the pavlik win was bigger than any win on joe's resume. plus winky and tarver.
joe's resume just doesn't do it for me. he had a string of relatively weak title defenses, his hands are weak and his punches are just sheer volume. i give him props for beating bhop, lacy and kessler though. especially the lacy win, he tore him up.
but really you can make a case for any of the top p4p guys, which in my opinion are
pacquiao
bhop
calzaghe
holyfield by impressive 5/6 round KO. hes gonna throw combinations and look damn good in there, just watch. hes finally healthy and hes not gonna look 45...
boxing isn't wrong, cmon, if thats the case then ban football too.."they tackle each other, they're so violent!!". ban basketball too because guys get injured all the time from hard fouls and taking it strong to the basket. in any sport injury is a part of the game, you know what you're getting into from the start and you understand the risks. at the same time you are being compensated so i really don't want to hear it. its the boxers choice to do it. i definitely don't feel like its morally wrong or even close, its an entertaining sport
Pacquiao is and was the fresher fighter before the fight even started, rewind to fight 2 and watch the last few rounds, they showed the decline and downfall of Morales who was just running on empty. Once you leave everything you have in the ring you can't gain that back for the next fight
the question will be - is sultan prepared to jump in on briggs, possibly eating a right hand in order to hit briggs with multiple shots..or is he going to pull a serge and be afraid to fight on the inside. if he can jump in on briggs and outwork him on the inside he will win. it can go either way though, I can see briggs winning by KO just as easily
I saw this coming a mile away. I'm kicking my own ass for not betting on this fight :nonono:
If I were a betting man I would have bet the house and everything in it on Pacquiao by KO. This fight was decided in round 10 of the 2nd fight...
He has faced more World Champions that Manny has.
Are people forgetting that Morales was totally done???
This trilogy was decided in round 10 of the 2nd fight. Actually it was decided in rounds 5-10 of the 2nd fight when Pac was beating on Morales at will. This win is being blown way out of proportion
Pac is up there on the P4P list, but he hasn't topped Mayweather, Winky, or even Calzaghe or Taylor, until they lose. I'd put him at #5 ahead of Hatton since Pac has beaten better opposition. But cmon, this doesnt make Pacquiao instant hall of famer, he beat a washed up Morales who honestly never had a chance.
I didn't know that any of those guys beat on women. But it's easy for you to judge when your not in their situation or living with some of those women. I don't know and neither do you know what is going on in their homes. So you should quit being judgmental as if your perfect and do no wrong. We all have our faults and talking trash, being flashy, arrogant, and being a smart ass are not thuggish. None of those guys are thugs. Thugs terrorize their communities and care about no one but themseleves. None of them fit that. If you are the type of person who has problem with their confidence, then maybe it is your own insecurity that causes you to have a problem with them.
great post :boxing:
i like what smoger did, he knew the round was almost over, saw quintana was getting up and asked quintana if he wanted to continue. refs dont need to be robots out there with stopwatches
unranked tsypko could have KO'd him if he kept throwing the straight left instead of those right hooks. lacy didnt look tired late, he looked like a beat up, shot fighter
wasnt he yelling "bye bye Ike"?? everything he said was taunting quartey. i wouldn't be surprised if he was hired by winky to get into ike's head. not that it mattered much
the stoppage in the first fight was stupid?!??? lol. you must have missed that whole 'blood pouring out of the mouth' part. any more damage and he could have been seriously hurt and his career over
2nd fight I felt Diego won, he boxed alot better and Casamayor wasn't busy enough. the 3rd fight was close but not enough to where you could give the fight to diego IMO. it was a solid 2 or 3 point win by casamayor
first of all the briggs/lyakovich fight was so bad it was painful to even admit I was right, I did pick Briggs by KO but in a fight that was going to be a 5 round slugfest, not a 12 round sleepy festival of yawns. but anyway, briggs will KO sultan if they fight, sultan couldn't even get inside on ray austin.
briggs/holyfield IMO would be the best fight to make because regardless of popular opinion I think Holyfield is going to look good in his next fights, proving his shoulder was really the cause of him looking so old. Holyfield wins that by KO in the middle rounds. If not Holyfield briggs should look to fight any of the current HW champs, or hold the belt long enough to fight Toney after Toney beats Peter and then Maskaev, but briggs will likely have already lost the belt by then.
