If you look back at Paul Williams career thus far, he's recieved the benefit of the doubt a lot. I think there are at least 3 fights where he should've lost that he got a decision for. What's fishy is that not only did Williams win these fights, but the scorecards are unbelievable. Williams vs. Martinez 1 - Most everyone thought this was a close fight that Williams MAY have won. I personally thought Martinez did much more damage and landed the cleaner more effective shots and exposed the fact that Paul is an arm puncher who just piles up landed shots that don't do much damage. The scorecards - 115-113, 114-114, and a ridiculous 119-110. I personally had Martinez winning by 2 or 3 rounds. Somehow this Fight of the Year candidate was a near shutout for one moronic judge. Williams vs. Cintron - This fight was a disgrace for multiple reasons. Most are happy that Cintron lost because of the falling out of the ring incident. However, I can't ignore the fact that Cintron should've gotten the decision here. Cintron was landing the big shots and cleaner shots. He also hurt Paul a few times and was never hurt by a punch. The scorecards - 40-36, 39-37, and 36-40. I personally had it 3 to 1 for Cintron, but I could see giving all rounds to Cintron. Yet again, a judge apparently thought Williams swept the fight and gave a 40-36 scorecard for Paul. Williams vs. Lara - In Paul's most recent and most ridiculous decision win to date, he was thoroughly beat by Lara. He was bloodied, battered, and thoroughly defeated. The scorecards - 116-114, 115-114, and 114-114. Not one judge scored for Lara even though everyone else in the world knew he won easily. HBO scored it 117-110 in Lara's favor. When there is that large of a discrepency between the judges and the masses, something is wrong. Either these judges are not qualified, or they're getting a payoff. Is Williams' habit of getting these "gifts" attributed to his pitty-pat punches and high activity, or is there something else going on here?

I don't know why this would be a PPV. I know Hopkins is an all time great, and Dawson is probably the #1 challenger in the division, but PPV doesn't make sense with this one. I'm a huge Dawson supporter (I'm from Connecticut), but his popularity has never been good. I'm not sensing that this will be a greatly entertaining fight, and the undercard is not that great either. I'm very dissappointed that this will be on PPV, as not only do I not want to pay, but I don't think it's worth PPV either. Thoughts?

Bute hasn't proven anything yet. He hasn't beaten anyone of meaning and has fought exclusively in his adoped hometown. I understand he has looked good lately, but if you don't think Kessler or Froch would easily handle the guys he's been fighting, you're mistaken. I actually see on Boxrec that they have Bute ahead of Andre Ward!! lol Let's compare the wins of these 2 undefeated fighters. Ward: Miranda, Kessler, Allan Green, Bika, Abraham Bute: An old Joppy, Andrande, Miranda, Jesse Brinkley, and Brian MacGee :pat:

When you consider this was once a division that featured: Floyd, Cotto, Margarito, Berto, Williams, Clottey, Mosley, Judah, Collazo, Cintron, Quintana, and even a prime Baldomir. It has really fallen off. Now we have: Pacquiao, Ortiz, Mosley (done), Berto, Mike Jones, Alfonso Gomez, Zaveck, Ouali, Senchenko, Kell Brook, and a past prime Malignaggi. I have confidence that the division will get better once guys like Khan move up from 140, but right now, it's really not that good.

This guy came off as a real ahole in his post fight interview last night. Saying how Perez quit and didn't want to continue. Apart from that he just showed no respect for Perez and acted like he was on another level all together. I lost some respect for Darchinyan last night, even though he looked good in the ring.

The crowd was on it's feet for much of the fight. Every round ended in a roar from the crowd. The most incredible moment was Ortiz knocked down Berto in the sixth. No one saw it coming and the place went absolutely nuts. While many on here claimed to hear boos when Mayweather was shown, there was probably just as many people cheering. However, there was a "Fight Pacquiao" chant that began afterwards. Paulie Malignaggi was there as well, and he's a real man of the people. Before the fight he spent a lot of his time in the lobby taking photos with fans, signing autographs, and just conversing with people. I was impressed. At one point I went to take a piss, and there he was, standing in line with the rest of us talking about the fight. While Mayweather was the most notable figure there, anyone would tell you that Paulie was the most visible. True fight fan. Larry Merchant was also very visible and spent a lot of his time before the fight in the same manner. The crowd was virtually split. Many people were rooting for Berto and just as many for Ortiz. However, towards the end, it was clear Ortiz had won the hearts of the fans in attendance. Watch out for Thomas Dulorme. Kid looked sensational in knocking out Cuello. Looked polished and like a great prospect. Expect big things. All in all, a great night at the fights. The first time I went to MGM at Foxwoods was to see Froch-Taylor, and I didn't think I could ever top that. Now I'm sitting here and I'm not sure what was better. In terms of sustained excitement Ortiz-Berto takes. Hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. And come down to Foxwoods to see a fight some time, it's a great venue for boxing.

This has fight of the year written all over it.

Ortiz has fought: Lamont Peterson Vivian Harris Marcos Maidana Nate Campbell Antonio Diaz Mike Arnaoutis Berto has fought: Carlos Quintana Juan Urango Luis Collazo Steve Forbes Mickey Rodriguez David Estrada I think it's close, which is surprising since Berto has been a champion for about 3 years.

I see this as a very risky fight for both fighters. On one side you have Berto, who outside of Urango has really never faced a puncher. Certainly not one as skilled as Ortiz. On the other side you have Ortiz, who is stepping up in weight and stepping up in class. Berto will be the best he has faced by far in my opinion. Does he have the stamina and will to stick with it all night? I'm really looking forward to this one and will probably be in attendance.

On boxrec they have listed that Prescott, Erdei, and Lattimore will all be fighting, but the opponents are all TBA. Anyone have any news or rumors about possible matchups?

Despite Calzaghe retiring undefeated, will he really go down in history as one of the memorable all time greats? In my mind, he didn't become a star until the twilight of his career and toiled in his hometown for 90% of the time against mostly unremarkable opponents. In 5-10 years I will remember Jones Jr. and Hopkins as greats, I don't know if Calzaghe will pop into my head, fair or not. What are your thoughts?

Who wins this? Is Klitschko able to hang on long enough for Golata to DQ himself?

He has rattled off 6 straight wins since losing to Sakio Bika in 2008. What is next for Manfredo? Does he step up in class again to go for a title? Or does he take a few more fights first? Looking back, there is no way he should've been matched with Joe Calzaghe. Not only was he not on that level, but he hadn't earned the fight either. But now it seems Manfredo might be earning it. He is winning, he's at his best weight, and his talents seem to be at their peak. Question is, what should he do, and what will happen? Does he crumble again if he steps up in class, or can Manfredo actually become a champion?

I've watched every episode thus far and I'm impressed. The show seems to be nailing it on every level. I'm hoping that the ratings reflect the quality of the show so it stays on the air.

After Tim "Hammerhead" Bradley's win this weekend, it has got me thinking about who the great headbutters of all time are. Clearly Evander Holyfield and Zinedine Zidane come to mind. Help me come up with some contenders and I'll turn this into a poll.

Come on people. Watch his fights, watch the replays. The guys #1 combo is a headbutt followed by a right hook. At one point against Alexander, Bradley's corner said to him, "Head and then the body". In my head, I was wondering if they were referring to the headbutt that Bradley likes to start his combinations with. Devon Alexander is a lefty, but when in the past have you seen him clash heads like this? It is Bradley. Whether he knows it or not, he uses that head to his advantage. He charges in head first, creates the contact, and then follows with punches.

For those of you in New England. Micky Ward will be making an appearance at Mohegan Sun on Thursday night for a 30 minute Q&A with local sports radio analyst Jason Page, formerly of ESPN 1410. Not sure on the exact time yet, but it will be located near the shops at Mohegan. I would imagine Ward will also be doing autographs.

When you think of the best boxing towns, what comes to find for you? In America, Vegas and New York City are the obvious ones. Where else in America? How about in the world?

Since I live in Connecticut, I'm considering attending this fight. I know it is a high quality matchup on paper, but I'm not sure how entertaining it will be. Dzinziruk is very skilled but I've watched him create some stinkers in terms of entertainment value. Martinez always entertains me, but I'm hesitant to get tickets because Dzinziruk has the ability to create a snorefest. Thoughts?

In a day and age where a loss can mean so much in boxing. It doesn't seem to hinder the ability of Zab Judah to continue getting title shots. By my count, with Zab's next bout, it will be his 10th chance at a title despite 6 losses. In addition, some of those title oppurtunities were unification fights, so there are even more belts involved. What is crazy, is that on more than one occassion, Zab has actually recieved a title shot after a loss. By comparison, David Tua has only 3 losses, and can be seen as more exciting than Judah, yet only has 2 title shots. Good promoters mean a lot in this sport.

I'm impressed. He seems to do more with less than those who are more gifted. Even showing some great boxing skills against Abraham. He even over-achieves with the ladies (Rachel Cordingly).

Now that we've seen Micky Ward played by Mark Wahlberg, who would be a candidate to play Arturo Gatti? Post pics if you think you have any good ideas for look alikes

I went. I thought it was a very good movie. If you were expecting a movie based on Ward's career and trilogy with Gatti, you may be dissappointed. This movie is almost more about Dicky Eklund and his relationship with Ward. I found it very interesting and one of the best boxing movies ever.

I really don't think this guy has what it takes. Mentally he doesn't seem to know what to do in certain situations. Why in a situation where he's beating his man does he backup and start to box? Why does he step off the gas pedal against a guy with little power? He didn't deserve to win that fight, so I'm glad it came out a draw.

Khan for his blazing speed and incredible combinations. Maidana for his unrelenting will and powerful punching to the body and head. As for the fight, I thought it was spectacular. Khan showed a lot of determination and I was impressed. Maidana threw probably 10 or so knockout punches and Khan worked through it. I thought the fight could've been stopped in the 10th. I thought Cortez DID protect Amir to an extent. If Khan is holding on to one arm and Maidana's other arm is free, there's no way he should be breaking them up. Khan has to learn to clinch the right way, his problem, not Maidana's. Luckily for Amir, Cortez was there to help him out. I want a rematch. But I doubt Roach would put Khan in there with Maidana again. This fight made me like both these guys and I hope there was some casual fans who saw this scrap.

They just talked about this on Around the Horn. The question looked at how Martinez eyes were closed and head turned when he connected with Williams for that huge knockout. Kornheiser seemed to lean towards "lucky punch", while Wilbon said "great KO". I compare this to a QB throwing it to a reciever in football when he can't even see. Is that not a great thow if it's a nice touchdown? Or a no-look pass in basketball. Is it not a great pass? The instincts of an athlete make him great more times than not. If Sergio Martinez threw a hard shot and landed it there, it's because he meant it. Great KO - 1 vote

Just in the round and a half that last night's fight lasted, I kept hearing how Williams was doing all the right things and actually winning the fight. This concerns me from a judging standpoint. No, he was not winning. Just like against Martinez the first time and against Cintron, he was throwing a ton of punches without much steam on them and somehow winning the fight. Truth is in all three fights, he was leaving himself open a lot and getting tagged with the better, cleaner, and more powerful punches. There was a reason the crowd was erupting for every Martinez shot. He was putting his weight in his punches and landing the much more effective punches. A lot of people may have had Williams winning at the time of the stoppage, but to me that is just not right. How can you be winning just by scoring a lot of do nothing punches, while the other guy is landing great shots. Even Manny Steward thought he was winning and that the fight was going his way. Am I blind? Or are people just mesmerized by the amount of punches Williams throws?

Other than that, the undercards of PPV traditionally is no better than what we get for free. Thoughts?
