Paul Williams: Trend of favorable decisions?

If you look back at Paul Williams career thus far, he's recieved the benefit of the doubt a lot. I think there are at least 3 fights where he should've lost that he got a decision for. What's fishy is that not only did Williams win these fights, but the scorecards are unbelievable. Williams vs. Martinez 1 - Most everyone thought this was a close fight that Williams MAY have won. I personally thought Martinez did much more damage and landed the cleaner more effective shots and exposed the fact that Paul is an arm puncher who just piles up landed shots that don't do much damage. The scorecards - 115-113, 114-114, and a ridiculous 119-110. I personally had Martinez winning by 2 or 3 rounds. Somehow this Fight of the Year candidate was a near shutout for one moronic judge. Williams vs. Cintron - This fight was a disgrace for multiple reasons. Most are happy that Cintron lost because of the falling out of the ring incident. However, I can't ignore the fact that Cintron should've gotten the decision here. Cintron was landing the big shots and cleaner shots. He also hurt Paul a few times and was never hurt by a punch. The scorecards - 40-36, 39-37, and 36-40. I personally had it 3 to 1 for Cintron, but I could see giving all rounds to Cintron. Yet again, a judge apparently thought Williams swept the fight and gave a 40-36 scorecard for Paul. Williams vs. Lara - In Paul's most recent and most ridiculous decision win to date, he was thoroughly beat by Lara. He was bloodied, battered, and thoroughly defeated. The scorecards - 116-114, 115-114, and 114-114. Not one judge scored for Lara even though everyone else in the world knew he won easily. HBO scored it 117-110 in Lara's favor. When there is that large of a discrepency between the judges and the masses, something is wrong. Either these judges are not qualified, or they're getting a payoff. Is Williams' habit of getting these "gifts" attributed to his pitty-pat punches and high activity, or is there something else going on here?

I had the 1st Martinez-Williams fight 6 rounds to 5 for Williams, with the 1st round being a 9-9. just because martinez shots LOOKED better, it doesnt mean that Williams' punching/output was noneffective. That fight was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY closer than people want to give Williams credit for. He was far from outclassed IMO. The Cintron fight is the most overrrated reason to say Williams lost. pure bull****. Im trying to find out what cintron REALLY did in some people's eyes to be up 4 rounds to 0 on Williams. I didnt see anything significant from EITHER fighter. I had it 2 rounds a piece. Cintron didnt outbox Williams at all imo; truth be told, they barely engaged in any action. I had Lara winning the fight 8-4 and 7-5 after looking at it about 5 times. Either way i felt that Lara won. Quintana had Williams up 7-5 on my card...

I know he lost to Lara & imo he was behind when Kermit leaped into the crowd. As for the 1st Martinez fight it was close.

The first Sergio fight is so overrated as a "Fight of the Year". Williams fans use that all the time to justify the decision. "It was FOTY so obviously it couldve gone either way." Yeah it was a good fight but essentially Sergio outboxed Williams quite comfortably for the majority of the fight and won a close but clear decision. The scoring for that fight was atrocious from all the judges if you look at how they scored each individual round. In fact, the 119-110 judge was the only one who scored the first round correctly. I agree. I didn't see any way how Williams won. Others disagree.

when i heard that 119-110 card read, i thought that score was for martinez. that was a good fight and all but i remember williams being noticeably hurt in a good majority of the rounds. getting back on track, isn't williams a haymon fighter? regardless of al haymon, i think hbo and other networks are doing everything in their power to establish an american superstar for after mayweather retires. but giving gift decisions isn't the way to do it. i think a lot of people just wanna see good fights with no controversial ending. may the best man win glen johnson said it best: "i'm not the best fighter, i just fight the best" He is a Haymon fighter. We can only speculate on whether that has anything to do with it.

against martinez it was only that one judge that was way off, i had paul winning the fight but think it couldve gon either way. lara, youre right about though. i had the cintron fight even when it was stopped so i dont think there was anything wrong with him getting that verdict either. also keep in mind williams' first fight with quintana couldve gon either way and quintana got the nod even though williams was defending champion and coming forward for 12 rounds. i see no trend as far as williams is cocerned, considering his style im surprised he hasnt had more of an advantage with the judges. modern judges tend to score punches thrown more so than punches landed. look at DLH-mayweather or hopkins-calzaghe. now scoring those fights for DLH or calzaghe thats some retarded ****. quintana hit williams flush with everything but the kitchen sink in their first fight. if paul didn't have such a good chin, and wasn't rehydrating to SMW at that point in his career, he would have probably been stopped or at least gotten dropped. williams came on a bit later in the fight, but he was taking cleaner and more effective punches for most of those rounds. i cant remember specifically how i scored it, but i remember quintana winning much more cleanly his early rounds, to the point where there really wasn't any question who was winning them he was actually sending williams head around pretty good early and then the fight evened out.

Yep Williams lost the Cintron and Laura fight.The Martinez 1 fight couldve gone either way.but 119-110???judge should be fired I think if that scorecard was close, I wouldn't have much of a problem with the decision even though I think Martinez won. The fact that it wasn't, tells me something was going on there.
