Come on people. Watch his fights, watch the replays. The guys #1 combo is a headbutt followed by a right hook.
At one point against Alexander, Bradley's corner said to him, "Head and then the body". In my head, I was wondering if they were referring to the headbutt that Bradley likes to start his combinations with.
Devon Alexander is a lefty, but when in the past have you seen him clash heads like this? It is Bradley. Whether he knows it or not, he uses that head to his advantage. He charges in head first, creates the contact, and then follows with punches.
Alexander's head was damn near stationary, and Bradley's came in from the right side to nail Alexander's left eye. How is that initiated by Alexander?
I'm no way excusing Alexander or saying he would've won minus the headbutts. I think he loses either way.
Watch the replay. Alexander was leaning in throwing a punch. But as you stated, it was on his left eye. But he said he couldn't open his right eye.
I couldn't agree more. I don't believe I saw one uppercut from Devon. And to be honest both were responsible for the headbuts. The Headbut that led to the stoppage was intiated by Alexander. Not to mention the headbut occured on his left side, but he mysteriously couldn't open his right eye.

i place the blame squarely on kevin cunningham. you know what you're fighting. Where was the uppercut when bradley was coming in? Where was the sidestep? Why was he constantly lunging in to hold a guy that has a huge head that fights conventional when you're a southpaw. Why is he trying to hold a 5'6 guy that doesn't have the power to blast you out anyway?

Style contrast, I already said it. When you have a southpaw against a fighter who comes forward very aggressively, IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN! And there would be no difference between a headbutt coming in and punch, if your hand is up, it'll more than likely cushion it or block the majority of it...like the ref says..protect yourself at all times......

That's what i used to tell your mom before each body massage ;)
So where are all the examples of Alexander getting butted like that in the past?
I don't think it should be a fighters should have to be concerned with playing defense against headbutts. That's the refs job.

Again, easier said than done and it would be like using replay to determine what is a holding call in the NFL.
It's a call based on perspective and in boxing it happens so fast, you jsut couldn't do it.
I see what you are saying and don't disagree with you, I just don't think they would do that because if a ref came in and did take that stance, Bradley's whole game would be changed and he would be rendered infective.
His headbutts are a big part of his game I guess. :)
The only way he "leads" with his head is because he has a squared stance and comes in with his chin up. He ALWAYS comes in with the intention of throwing punches, no clinches and anything of that sort. Check the replays of the headbutts, most of them were Devon's fault because the contrast of styles. Headbutts wouldn't even happen if his face wasn't open anyway, "protect yourself at all times", as the refs say. I guarantee if there was a glove covering his face, it wouldn't have been smacked by Bradley's giant forehead.

^^^^This........
doesn't matter.... based on the stats of timmah cutting his opponent with his head in the last 5(?) fights, you gotta treat timmmah's head with prejudice. you just gotta start deducting points.

Nah man. The guy leads with his head 50% of the time and the punches come after. I'd say there was at least 5-6 times where he landed a big punch against Devon right after nailing him with his dome.

If anything, it's because of his aggressiveness. None of his headbutts ever look intentional to me. In the Alexander fight, I only saw one headbutt, surprisingly, that was because of him. The rest seemed to be because of Alexander. At least when he comes forward, he's throwing punches with his head following. Ward on the other hand will will come forward with his head with no punches before hand or after.

I think this may only be the second or third time we've agreed on something.
The intent is not really the issue. Whether he intends it or not, it's coming to his advantage and refs need to stop it.
Alexander would've probably lost anyway, but no one can say that the fight would've been the same if it wasn't for Bradley's hammerhead.

Does anyone recall if Bradley was warned even once about diving in with his head this past weekend?
the ref was warning both of them all night... but you gotta figure timmah is the culprit since alexander was the one taking all the damage.
You missed my point, what if it's the opponent coming because of Bradley's size? There's just no way you could do that unless you determined that Bradley was doing it on purpose.
For years they wanted the same thing done to Holyfield but they couldn't do it.

He leads with his head, you can just watch him fighting a tell. Is it the other fighter's job to get out of the way? Yes, but that doesn't make it right.
it's pretty easy... just start warning him and if he keeps doing it then take a point away. that's how they stopped wifebeater from using his forearm to measure his opponents.

Respect to Bradley, but there is no doubt he uses that head to his advantage | BoxingScene Community
