Martinez is going to do a lot of good for this sport while he's on top. Both in the ring and out. He literally will not duck anyone, and he shouldn't. He's supremely confident in his ability and athleticism. IMO he beat Williams already, and I think he beats everyone at 154-160.
The problem with punchstats is they don't account for scoring. Even if you win rounds big (like Glen Johnson against Dawson 1), it doesn't mean you necessarily win the fight. Boxing is scored on rounds not punches.
That being said, I'm not disputing anything here, just that you can't decide a fight strictly on numbers.
Ive been waiting for his crooked ass to croke
It's hard for me to say as someone who considers myself a good person, but if it's for the good of the sport...
It will be. No question
Arum is too angry and too greedy. And he's a liar.
I question anyone who thinks we're better off with him. Fights like Cotto-Pacquiao would've still happened without Arum. On the flip side, IMO Floyd-Pac may not happen BECAUSE of Arum.
Frazier beat him...
Yes, but he avenged the loss, just like when he lost to Spinks.
If Ali had stayed retired after beating Spinks in the rematch, he would've retired as current and 3 time HW champ having beaten everyone on his resume (ala Lennox Lewis).
Not too shabby.
God i hate boxing when it comes to titles.
That's why floyd let'em collect dust.
Actually, the rule isn't terrible, it's just the fact that they put ridiculous timelines on these rules. 10 days?? What a joke.
Manny is fresh in everyone's minds for the DLH beatdown, Hatton destruction, and Cotto dismantling. Taken year by year, there's no doubt Mayweather's dominance was more profound throughout the decade.
But in the world of "what have you done for me lately?"....
It's just them being stingy, and greedy. They don't want him to fight at 154 unless they are making some of the profit off it. It's ridiculous IMO. Boxing is full of sharks!
No arguement from me there, haha.
We all hope boxing will be alive, well and globally televised (or streamed), at least as long as we're alive. Some say boxing is on the decline, while others will say it's perfectly fine.
But what single factor do you think poses the biggest threat to the well-being, prosperity and longevity of Boxing as a sport and as entertainment?
Just an example poll, there are a number of other possibilities..
I was about to tell you, "Great poll and thread", but then I saw that you missed the BIGGEST THREAT to boxing, sanctioning bodies.
We saw just today a sanctioning body strip a newly crowned champ because of a lame rule and a tight deadline.
Otherwise, great question.
My personal opinion, Foreman doesn't have the power to concern Cotto and you see the Cotto wrecking ball come back. When he's coming forward, he's a completely different and better fighter.
Jack Johnson> Bearcat Wright > Max Baer > Joe Louis > Rocky Marciano > Archie Moore > Muhammed Ali > Larry Holmes > Mike Tyson > Lennox Lewis > Vitali Klitschko
Almost every name is a hall of famer or ATG. Careers span from 1897 to present.
Can anyone beat that?
Basically, if you can get to Pacquiao you can pretty much link anyone to anyone lol
Great point, but not just Pacquiao. Any fighter that stretched weight classes. Oscar, Floyd, Jones Jr., etc.
i personally love seeing ruiz get tua'd. i've seen alot of shit since ive followed this sport, but when i think of sheer ungodly brutal dominance in a knockout - i think of that one. maybe it wasn't as historically significant as either of those you listed, but it was one hell of a knockout and it never ever gets old.
It was brutal.
I have never liked that KO. It looks kind of awkward.
Walcott KO of Charles was superb.

Really? He lands about 8 clean punches from different angles. I love it.
John L Sullivan > James Corbett > Jame Jeffries > Jack Johnson> Bearcat Wright > Max Baer > Joe Louis > Rocky Marciano > Archie Moore > Muhammed Ali > Larry Holmes > Mike Tyson > Evander Holyfield > John Ruiz > Roy Jones Jr. > Bernard Hopkins > Oscar De La Hoya > Manny Pacquiao > Jorge Solis > Cristobal Cruz > Cornelius Lock > Daniel Ponce De Leon > Celestino Caballero > Steve Molitor > Scotty Olson > Michael Carbajal > Jorge Arce > Vic Darchinyan > Cristian Mijares > Francisco Arce > Jesus Jimenez > Santiago Ivan Acosta > Luis Concepcion > Eric Ortiz > Julio Cesar Miranda > Pongsaklek Wonjongkam
There's probably a faster way to do this. The jump from Pac to Ponsaklek was ridiculously hard.
