Is Victor Ortiz an idiot?

I think it has to do more with his trainer, his trainer was telling him to box instead of pressuring, and I think that confused him because when he pressured he planted his feet and let go of beautiful combinations, while he was boxing he let go one punch at a time. If Ortiz had fought like he did Saturday against Maidana he would have won the Maidana fight and if he would have fought like he did against Maida on Saturday he would have won the fight more clearly, or even knocked Peterson out.

he looks like a fighter, sounds like a fighter but at times acts in a very strange way that gives you a quick insight into his soul....and that part always screams "i dont really want to be here" he will fold when the heat it on. he has all the skills, some of the heart but when it gets tough, the people who think they are game will fold, those who know no other way but to keep fighting as they think they will always win, will at least show well, even if they dont win....ortiz looks good, but underneath, it isnt all there....mark my words! He sounds like a fighter before the fight. After the fight is another story. And after the fight, he is there smiling. Not even Peterson was smiling. It's like "dude, you just **** the bed and probably still should've gotten the decision. How are you not pissed?" Unbelievable. Vic Darchinyan also didn't get the decision this weekend and was visibly angry and let down. Why does Victor not have the passion to care? Exactly! Post fight conference "merry christmas,happy new year..life goes on...i want a cheeseburger...hey merchant you can come too!" Even in the post fight interview with Boxingscene hes talking about how he has scars now and he has nothing to hide,etc....i thought he would have a different attitude after quiting.

All of you are right...he doesn't need confidence he has the confidence of his physical abilities but his desire and inspiration is no longer there...he needs inspiration I still think he's emotionally hurt from the Maidana loss, but knowing he was on the same card as Maidana and Khan he had a chance to make a huge statement on the 3rd and 4th round to stop Peterson but he didn't? He needs a trainer that can dig into his soul and let him see how many advantages he has...he should also move up to 147 because coming in at 156 rehydrated slows him down...he can also help the sport by adding on to the lonely 147 division... Time to change your sig. He not only didn't KO a chinny Peterson, he was lucky to get the draw.

I don't think Victor is emotionally balanced right now, I feel he has very low self esteem and this has something to do with his screwed up childhood. Potentially he would be the main threat to Khan as the most dangerous LWW but there is something missing. Rejection is a big theme in his life and being replaced by Khan as Golden Boy's Golden Boy can't be good for his ego. He is a dark horse but if the right Ortiz turned up in a fight with Khan there would be fireworks. Good points. I dont think this has anything to do with his boxing or physical ability. I think it has to do with his childhood demons. The guy has been through a lot if all those hbo stories are true. I also think that he is being left on the shelf. He doesnt seem to be getting as much push from gbp or the hype that hbo gives all the gbp fighters.

This maidana thing has nothing to with the ortiz draw. Ortiz was never taught how to box to begin with. After the knock out on peterson, ortiz got predictable and peterson started chipping away.

The post fight press conference showed his lack of hungriness , he was going on about boxing is not his life etc and how he's having fun etc. Pre-Maidana he was awesome but he hasn't done anything since.

IMO he hasnt recovered mentally from the Maidana loss. Like everyone says, he has the tools. Also take into account his choldhood. I am sure he must have some demons in his head. That is why he will have trouble winning decisions against the top guys. this^ been sayin it for a while now ortiz boxes like his front foot is stuck in the mud if you want to jab that front foot needs to be stepping forward and your back foot is generating the snap ortiz back foot isnt his power foot as it is for most boxers he's heavy on the front foot so he can generate power for the hook from the ground he gets hit a lot becase he's leaning on the right side (right in the path of a right hand w/ real leverage) he cant move effectively and it makes him a very basic power puncher (which he doesnt have to be considering his athletic talents) he also looks like a WW to me he's HUGE up top further proof that oscar and golden boy cant hold a candle to the abilities of top rank to develop a young fighter

He needs to sort out his jab, only 2 landed in 12 rounds? His power punches are precise but his jab was actually pathetic against Peterson. He doesn't have a jab.
