I have PBF winning by an early or mid round stoppage. He would beat Gatti utill he was unconscious.
I am sure he would not want to re-live the DLH nightmare again, and this time...he is facing someone who is a tad bit faster, and more effective with his punches.
Fight would be similar to Ndou/Mayweather IMO.
Gatti is a great "fan favorite", but PBF would make him look like the average moderate skilled fighter he is.
This post is a winner. It's interesting reading these old threads.
Mayweather does not have more fans period than any of those guys. Hatton has more UK fans than Mayweather has American fans. Pacquiao is the biggest superstar of his country, Mayweather is just a normal star. And Mexican fans do not like or respect Mayweather. He did that to himself by wearing the Mexican gear to the ring and things he said over the years about Castillo and Margarito.
Sure......Mark Tafet and Ross Greenburg respectfully disagree. As they put it Floyd "ligths up" the urban markets.
are you crazy? Pacquiao started his career at 106 pounds. Its a miracle that he's even fighting and knocking people out at 130.
No not really......not with the aid of "ARIZA's SPECIAL BLEND"
"I just need Manny to see what i see" - ROACH regarding a fight with PBF.
So i think Roach wants it.....but Manny maybe saw what Floyd did to JMM and got a bit worried.
I'll start it off...
UNFULFILLING
A career spanning that long with that many belts in that many divisions against many great fighters, most of which were dominant performances and you call it unfulfilled???
This is another classic case of the higher standard being applied to a SUPERIOR AND ELITE TALENT.
Both fighters put in poor performances tonight! The enormity of the fight clearly effected both mentally. Neither was as aggressive as they could have or should have been.
Need to distinguish btw physically the toughest versus closest imo, as they nwcessarily don't go hand in hand.
Physically the toughest? Have to go with Augustus, Maidana and perhaps Cotto then Castillo in that order.
Closest is Castillo despite the wide card, followed by Maidana 1, where score was prettt good. ODLH fight was not close at all despite the post fight narrative and official scorecard.
Manny might have torn it in the fight, no way he had it going in, or a "slight" tear since 2008. You cannot continue to fight or train with any kind of tear on the rotator. The same goes for Floyd. Does any person really believe he had a torn rotator cuff vs Castillo??? NO!! He had a sore shoulder, just like Pac.
Frankly Pac is being a cry baby about this!! At least Floyd gritted his teeth and did something when Castillo started pouring it on in the later rounds. Round 11 case and point.
The real truth is that for very big portions of the fight and especially the championship rounds, Pac just stood there looking at Floyd reticent to throw. That's what Pac fans actually cannot stomach, the fact that Manny went down without even a yelp. He didn't even force Floyd to have to fight more aggressively to back him off, he did it of his own accord.
I'd like to see him fight Thurman. If you watch Floyd v Cotto in round 6, i think Thurman can replicate what Cotto does in that round successfully to some degree against Floyd. Cotto came in behind a jab, sat down, exchanged, then moved off and made Floyd chase him for a change.
Thurman and Cotto look uncannily similar in the way they move when they get on their bike.
They're all turning into Prima donnas. No one wants to earn their stripes anymore, they want to take easy fights but get mega-credit and mega-payday's.
I will say that there are a few that show promise, longevity and a willingness to fight anyone, so all is not lost.
They are getting paid good money much earlier now. Can't begrudge it, but it turns 90% of them into non competitive whiners, like a Berto for example who made $1.5 m fighting a bum, who i can't even remember now. This is where you have to hand it to the likes of Cotto, JMM, Floyd and Manny. The money doesn't turn off the desire to keep training and fighting.
I think Cotto beats Floyd in the rematch, but I just want to see Floyd in a competitive fight. That's all it comes down to, Cotto is really the only name that Floyd would potentially fight to make an entertaining fight. So that's why I want to see it, competitive and entertaining.
I tend to agree, but Cotto isn't at 54 still and 60 is a stretch for Floyd. He's be giving Cotto a huge advantage agreeing to fight him at 60. I'd like to see Thurman. Alot of Cotto about the way Thurman fights, but i think he moves better, or more accurately is more conscious about moving. Cotto is actually pretty smooth when he gets on his bike, he just doesn't do it when he should.
I don't care much for Floyd, though I used to be a fan of his a few years ago (don't enjoy watching him fight now)
With that said, I think this dude can beat GGG
He clearly hasn't lost his legs, seems he just chooses when to use them, that kind of lateral movement without any certain rhythm, with a large ring like last night, would make it very very difficult for GGG to land anything big on him
I'm not one of those people who thinks the size disparity would make that much of a difference in this fight, Floyd is a pretty big 147 (I can't think of anybody at 147 who's clearly bigger than Floyd is, key word being "Clearly")
I'd love to see this fight, beating GGG would be easily the biggest win of his career without a doubt
GGG is my 2nd fav fighter right now, so I'm being painfully honest here even for my own good lol
As a Mayweather fan GGG would hurt Floyd....badly!!! He's too big and far too strong. Couple that with the fact he can actually box and deliver on these advantages he would crush Floyd! It's a bridge too far.
Floyd fans, is there any fighter during Floyd's time you wish he faced that he didn't?
That's easy. Kostya Tszyu. There was some talk about it happening and then he signed to fight Hatton.
I'm a fan of Canelo, and i think the answer is fairly obvious - GGG is bigger, stronger and better. He will lose and probably be beaten up quite badly by the end of the night.
Yes, quite a bit actually in the past. Was going to have a few amateur bouts, but i thought to myself, what for? I like to go at things 100% and commit. I don't have the time for that with my job, and i like my job. I don't want to do myself a disservice by not giving it everything, and the reason is (and i know this will sound ridiculous), but i'm actually very good. I am stronger than 95% plus people my size (195 to 200 pounds) and i have very fast hands and feet for my size. I have physical advantages, and i am coordinated. I also throw every punch well, bar the overhand right, which i just can't seem to get right. I can also take a shot to the head or body - this much i know for a fact.
Have sparred some amateurs in the 170 - 175 pound range. My weight advantage generally makes up for their conditioning advantage, and also the fact they spar a lot, so their timing and ability to put punches together is better. Looking good on the bag and mitts is easy, but unless you spar often you won't get to really put in practice what you learn. That first sparring session you do, after not having done it for months or years is always the hardest. You basically get a headache once you get hit with the first clean head shot and after the first round realise you aren't as fit as you had believed.
If i had have taken up the sport at university when 17 or 18, no doubt i would have had 40-50 am bouts by now. Alas i took it up properly basically when i was 26-27. By that point i had a good job (still do) and showing up to it w a black eye isn't all that appealing to me, and in reality too old to give it a proper go.
Khazakstan has a big focus on their amatuer program. More than this though, they aren't afraid to try new things and teach the boxers some unconventional footwork coupled with the way they throw. For example they step out to the side with a hook instead of stepping forward, and over rotate their foot and the hook whilst doing this. This means they aren't in the line of fire for a return shot. It also allows you to step back and pump the straight right into a fighter from an unconventional angle.
Thats what makes all of the posts on this board calling certain fighters bums all the more disgusting. These so called bums would end the night for most of the members on this board In less than a round.
You and others are missing the point here, we are calling other fighters bums relative to their peers in their chosen profession. I'm a financial advisor (and a good one, confirmation bias i know) and when i see advice a bad one has given, he is a bum. It's because i'm comparing him to someone competent in our field, not a postman or a butcher.
Anyone who has been in a ring and taken shots (body moreso) knows it takes a certain amount of balls to box a guy who is above your skill level, doesn't mean i can't call a pro a bum relative to his peers.
This fight would no way in hell even be close..Thurman seems to be getting worse
I don't think we should dismiss him that quickly. I think he has some tools in his arsenal. The biggest problem i see for him is Floyd's speed.
What did everyone think?
My biggest complaint is too much of the kids, especially Mayweather's daughter (man she was annoying). Also does anyone really care about Justin Beiber's take on a fight?
Some dumb moments but I liked that they spoke about the gloves. I also thought the way they edited the fight was strange. I know that Maidana controlled mostly early and Floyd late but they took out all of Floyd's good work from early in the fight and made it seem like Maidana was kicking his ass and then I don't think they showed Maidana landing a punch in the second half.
Best part was when they both commented on Broner :lol1:
He may give the current version a few problems. His jab shocked me. I also just found a vid post fight where Floyd also said he was "shocked" with Maidana's jab. Still think Pac takes him out though. Pac throws combo's and that would be the difference. The version that fought Cotto would poleaxe Chino.
Styles make fights.
floyds daughter needs to be left in the locker room.
god that kid is fcking annoying. you can hear her ear-piercing screams during the live ppv
Do we really need to be trolling a 13 yr old girl online? Are virtually all 13 year old girls annoying? Yeah they are. Is Floyd's 13 yr old annoying? Yep. Are all the posters on here complaining about the man's little girl miserable C*NTS? You bet!!!!:lame:
Paulie almost suffered a brain-bleed against Porter, I don't want to see him in the ring with Thurman. Boxing needs him mentally sharp for his commentary.
Good call.
When are people going to stop with this retarded shit? Guys who have never set foot inside a boxing gym who think boxers spar with 8oz gloves.
The glove issue was a psychological edge. Floyd should have let him wear Reyes, but at the end of the day he wasn't going to magically win with Reyes gloves. The powerlocks are still 8oz gloves. People don't have much idea really. You can do serious damage in 16oz winning gloves if you have "true" power.
Still a d*ck move by Floyd though
