Credit yes, Respect no. To me they are different. Floyd gets credit for the win but the 144 weight and the $600k for the 2lbs over was simply the bigger draw exerting too much influence over the parameters of the fight.
I echo your sentiments. It was a good solid win where he showed more skill and ability than JMM. But he was too big for him. If Floyd was naturally a lightweight or JMM naturally a welterweight, it would have been closer, no doubt. Probably the same result, but definitely closer. I think also the whole weight issue coming 2lbs over the contract weight was a ***** move and taking away JMM's only advantage. So a good solid win and deserving of credit, yes...definitely. But fighting him at a more respectable weight, or earlier in his career etc...would have been much more impressive. And then just the fact that so many other fighters were there for him and he picked someone two divisions lower.
He pulled his foot out and showed it on national TV for Sky....had his shoe off ready to make the excuse the moment he got interviewed! What a joke! He probably planned using it as an excuse from the moment he hurt it. They asked Lennox Lewis RIGHT after whether the injury would have effected him and he said "no, he would have taken pain killers and the adrenaline and excitement would have completely numbed it out".....and he's Haye's friend and wanted him to win...that says it ALL.
One minute people are talking about Direll getting KO'd by Abraham and saying he has no chance...saying Abraham is a world beater and can KO anyone at any point....of course this is true...
But when he DOES land a massive clean punch on the chin of Direll when he is defenseless and on the floor....suddenly he's Malignaggi and Direll is an oscar winning actor? Get the **** out of here. I am a big fan of King Arthur and think he'll bounce back from this and still hope him or Kessler win this thing, but the man punched Direll when he was down so it was a damn DQ and thats that. I hate the damn inconsistency on this board when rooting for your own fighters...learn to accept boxing for what it is...if you don't, you're not a proper fan.

End Thread I think...
no offence to the TS...but this is probably the worse thread I've ever read on boxingscene...EVER....it's clear at both 4:18 and 4:24 that Eddie got caught by a hard left hook and as a result got KTFO...and even if it was Wlad hitting Eddies Glove and Eddies glove KO'ing Eddie...then Wlad deserves even MORE credit as he hit something softer than his own hand which then KO'd Eddie. If you put more cushioning onto someones chin and then hit their chin, the chances of KO'ing them is much slimmer.
I don't like Bob Arum much, think he cares about his own back pocket more than boxing....much prefer Golden Boy...but they are slightly inexperienced right now...I think in 5-6 years they'll overtake Top Rank but for now, Bob knows about promoting best. He knows how to match make his fighters more, he knows when to cash in, he knows most of the time who can be a big name and what not...Golden Boy are quite fan pleasing so they tend to stick their young fighters in more testing fights, and so their match making is a little off yet. Malignaggi Vs Diaz and Ortiz Vs Maidana....also Saul Alvarez was rocked by Cotto....could have been bad!
you mean like GBP isn't protecting khan or the ginger kid?
http://www.randomthoughts.sopranina.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/shame-on-you.jpg
Well to be fair, they did put Khan in with Maidana and they did try to get him in with Bradley (and I think Bradley would beat him).....the ginger kid has a tough fight coming up, but I do believe they will match him harder from here on in.
I kind of see the TS's point, Golden Boy in the last 2 years have put on much better cards. Top Rank, not to discredit them, have had uncompetitive and boring cards this year..they do need to step it up a bit.
It looks like Ortiz tbh. Lets look at the possibilities.
Pacquiao is more or less signed to fight JMM, and it's clearly not Pacquiao because we'd hear something from Bob etc.
It's not Cotto. Cotto is with Top Rank so unlikely seeing as Mayweather (despite saying he's self promoted) is a Golden Boy fighter. His last four fights have been with a Golden Boy fighter and he ALWAYS says "Golden Boy and Mayweather Promotions are the future of boxing"...he might run to Don King every now and then but lets face it, Mayweather likes doing business with Golden Boy, and he is more or less their fighter, even though he doesn't like to admit it. So Cotto is out IMO.
Bradley is also out for me, mainly because Schaefer wouldn't bother going to all that trouble making Bradley vs Khan, if he knew Mayweather wanted the fight.... would he?
It won't be Alexander, he likes him too much and he needs to rebuild after his last outing.
It won't be Zab, as that fight has been done and dusted....won't happen again and I believe they're friends now?
It won't be anyone like JCC Jnr, and thank god it won't as well...
Martinez is VERY unlikely. Huge risk, low reward, plus Marvilla is too big..even if he comes down to Jnr Middle, he'll rehydrate to 175 ish and that just isn't fair for Mayweather...if he does fight Martinez, mad respect for him though haha!
Doubt it's Khan...I mean I think Khan knows deep down he hasn't got the skills to beat him yet and that he should try building up to mega fights like that....plus if he fights in July, he won't fight again till end of the year most probably.
Ortiz....just came off a huge win, won Floyd's old welterweight strap, has a Mexican following, is Golden Boy, is marketable and is a welterweight. Personally I'd rather see Floyd fight Pacquiao or Martinez as they'd be his biggest challenges and they're the only two worthy IMO. Thats not to say Ortiz wouldn't be a good fight....
But I mean, who deserves Pac or May these days?? No one really....Gone are the days where people worked HARD for the cash cows of boxing. Mayweather beating everyone at welterweight to make the Oscar fight, Mosley being undefeated light weight champ to get Oscar, Pacquiao beating everyone notable at the lower weights to be a PPV attraction, heck even Hatton had to wait around 40 odd fights before getting Mayweather or Hatton....these new guys... Bradley, Berto, Ortiz and Khan...they're getting millions and being offered big fights and they're not doing a huge deal to deserve them? Kind of disappointing....wish there was someone more worthy other than Pac and Martinez.
I'd like to say Mosley....he's had the better competition, and I think he is the better fighter but he hasn't had the wins on the record. Like Mayweather, I thought he could have done so much more against him...I know, easier said than done...but just, he had the game plan, he just didn't execute it.... Then the Balco thing is a massive doubt. One of his biggest wins was while he was on PEDs, I can't believe it's still a W and not a L or N/C, wtf like?? That taints his career for me. Just like Margarito's career is tainted by his hand wraps, Mosley's should be by his use of PED's.
As for Calzaghe...not the most skilled boxer, but he kept on winning, his opposition wasn't always great, but I do believe he would have excelled if it were. Then the thing is, people will remember Calzaghe for being one of the greatest Super Middleweights ever...since no one really dominated the division...for that he'll probably be remembered more. He is the most memorable Super Middleweight, now there are plenty, before it was just him and he was King.
I think this is an amazing fight. I reckon if Cotto can comfortably make 147, he stops Ortiz....I think people forget how much of a beast he was at Welterweight. He stopped two pretty decent light-middleweights, and at Welterweight he was pretty brutal! I think he's a better boxer than Ortiz, more skilled and then a bigger body puncher.
This is an interesting read, but you know Shane fought so poorly in both fights. Mayweather, he kept trying to land a big shot. Against Pacquiao, the moment he got floored he was fighting scared. I actually thought vs Pacquiao his first 2 rounds he boxed okay and frustrated Manny...
You know, I was always sure that Bradley could beat Hatton in his prime....now I'm not so sure. He's still rough, tough and skilled...but you need clean accurate hard punches to beat Hatton, and I don't think he hits hard enough. Both are good inside fighters so I think it would have been a tremendous fight.
Okay well, he has less than 2 months to find someone to fight and be realistic guys...Bradley and Alexander should not fight Khan with two months notice. A fight like that needs promotion and for each guy to come in top shape....that wouldn't happen. For you guys saying he could fight them in August...NO he can't. It's Ramadan in August which means he'll be fasting for 30 days.....so any fights in August, September and October are completely out of question as most guys have 6 week training camps right? The guy is doing well to fit in a fight on such short notice and Katsidas is a great clash...yes he's a lightweight coming up, but who else can he can with respectable pop and a good name on such short notice?? There's no one in the Junior Welterweight division who would be ready or willing on such short notice...Katsidis would be willing because he is a warrior...and it would be a good keeping busy fight for Khan with a big puncher.
If Mosley didn't like the contract, then he shouldn't have signed it. When you are a PPV King you are allowed to make demands like that...see De La Hoya Vs Mayweather. It's not like Grant and Everlast gloves are pillows....they're in the top 5 glove manufacturers in the world so I don't think it's a valid reason to say Mosley didn't win. Even if it is a valid reason..Mosley should have known "Okay my gloves aren't the best so ONE shot won't KO Mayweather...I need to land more punches"....what did he do??? He went looking for one big punch....even Naazim went ape shit on him for doing so. No need to discredit Mayweather's win dude. He won, Mosley lost...lets move on and hope Mayweather Vs Pacquiao gets made now.
Lol the choices are funny but people will remember Mayweather for being an arrogant, mouthy, cocky cunt. But they'll remember also that he is damn near one of the best boxers to ever live....I think he has the best set of boxing skills a fighter could ever have....perhaps of all time. That's not to say he's the GOAT, but in terms of the level of skills...he very well could be. Sure as hell is the most skilled boxer I've ever seen.
I pick Floyd to win UD.....and I think Manny can't KO Floyd to be honest so no...I don't think he has just 4 rounds to beat Mayweather. I think his best chance is staying busy....trying to win the first 3-4 rounds clearly...get the crowd going and then just stay busy. We know Vegas judges..they don't like counter punches as much as guys who come forward, see De La Hoya Vs Mayweather (Mayweather clearly won but got a SD???), Hopkins Vs Calzaghe (many had BHop winning) and Pacquiao Vs JMM 1 and 2 (very close fight but Pacquiao won because he was busy and coming forward)....so if he wins first 3-4 rounds clearly...then stays busy and gets the crowd going...this is his only chance IMO.
I agree with you in all you have just said, he has all the skills to be one of the greatest, but people will just remember him just like that, they will just keep talking about floyd's skill but they can't remember his fights in the ring because they are forgettable.
Agreed dawg...I mean imagine Mayweather fought Cotto instead of retiring?? That would have boosted his resume in such a huge way, Cotto was a young hungry undefeated fighter who was savaging people and had 28 KO's in 31 fights I think it was? Pre Margarito...Cotto was scaring people..Mayweather would have beaten him I think, and retiring and letting Margarito and Pacquiao beat him instead....tarnished his legacy a little bit for me.
What is the difference? I don't see any....only that in the first he looks a little more ripped which would be obvious since he had 5lbs less body fat on him?
Neck girth has increased, for obvious reasons.
Yeah maybe it has bro, but I think it's a little bit hard to notice with them pictures. But they did say they would work on his neck muscles so his head gets snapped back less and of course his legs are much bigger now. He used to have skinny ass legs and always off balance when he lunged in. I still think the man is chinny though...I think he takes a shot better than most of us give him credit for, but still not good enough. Hopefully the man can avoid getting hit like Mayweather does.
Homie, how did he get around the testing for the Tour De France? Did he take the test or did he somehow avoid anyone from taking his blood? I think no drug test is perfect...OST can't trace HGH apparently...
yeah but floyd is confident in his abilities and undefeated, when people see the money floyd has seen they lose hunger and can probably lose because their hunger is lost, but floyd backs up whatever he says and trains like a poor man..he is a gym rat and dedicated period..not saying that roach isn't but for him this is good retirement money
floyd has made more money with mosley, marquez and hatton than pacquiao has made in his whole career..thats a fact you cant deny, so you tell me who needs who for a payday?
You may be right, but I still think Mayweather needs a payday more than Pacquiao and Roach....his financial decisions in life suggest that anyway. Someone can earn more, but it don't mean shit if what they spend is around the same. Example....Manny might have got $10million fighting Clottey, but what if he saves most of it? Floyd may get $30million fighting Mosley, but what if he spends it all next week?? I wouldn't put it past him!!! Manny isn't a big spender and honestly he can get movie roles and shit like that in the Philippines. As for Roach, he has other fighters who make money...I think Roach is doing just fine. He doesn't need Mayweather for money...it would be nice for him, but I don't think he needs it. We got no idea how much is in any of these guys bank accounts.
No question. But no one wants to fight a cheater. There should be no issues with leveling the playing field through better testing. None. At all. Nein. Zilch. Zero. Zip. Nada.
Equally, there should be serious issues with questioning a fighters integrity and accusing him of being on PED's. I think that was low man. If he wanted to clean up the sport, he should have gone to Nevada State Athletic Commission and requested a change...like Arum did with the gloves. That would have gone down better and less accusative than how he handled the situation. But **** it....lets just hope that this fight gets made!!!
let's be serious. gorilla-dog is just playing mind games
I agree with you homie. Did you read the article? Why don't Golden Boy go to Nevada like Bob Arum did? It'd work I think.
thats why he keeps mentioning that the fight will happen and talks out of turn, he cant wait till he gets his share of $$$ in the biggest money fight of all time...he doesnt know whether pacquiao wins or loses as much as he wants this fight to happen and knows it will fill his pockets...thats why when mayweather, pacquiao, arum and golden boy havent even said anything roach keeps talking out of turn..shows the desperation IMO
Yeah, but wait a sec....isn't your boys name Floyd "Money" Mayweather? He only wants the money as well...he said it himself? "I fight for money". And desperation? You mean the desperation that Floyd had when he owed god knows how much to the IRS?
How long would that have taken? Think about that.
I don't know, Arum got that shit done before Cotto and Margarito got made? He could still go do it now haha.
He would only go to the NSAC if he knew it would be a problem - these kind of things get negotiated between fighters alone all the time. You're assuming he knew Manny would say no. Anyway, who cares about accusing? Manny didn't care. They accused him long before negotiations and it didn't stop him from sitting at the table to make a fight. So that point is moot. You agreed to the tests, now go all the way, instead of looking shady by wanting no more tests a few weeks out.
He didn't care when it was only Floyd Snr and Malignaggi...but when it became an event and Mayweather demanded testing, I think he felt it. Shit he accomplished in his career was being bought into question. He didn't handle the drug testing situation very well, but neither did Floyd.
