A busted eye socket can easily end a career and change someone's quality of life permanently.
It's not like a broken jaw or hand.
Jesus, some NSB guys would expect Brook to carry on if GGG was coming at him with a chainsaw in each hand lol.
I guess it's just strange how, in such a close fight, ALL 3 judges favoured Ward AND decided he won the last Six rounds.
Especially after the knockdown...
Unless Kov got a stoppage he was never going to get a decision.
Ward, he slick doe, he a technician doe, he a master boxer.
Trump will end this corrupt treachery lol.
Gareth Davies from The Telegraph, who probably do the best reporting on boxing here in the UK, had rounds 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 10 for Kovalev. That's 7 rounds, at least for of which are clear (rounds 1, 2, 3 and 6). The 5 remaining rounds Ward won, had only one clear imo and that's the last one. Round 11 was good but I gave it to Ward. The other 3 rounds could have gone either way or even.
Kovalev won and in the eyes of most who know the sport, he won clearly.
I for one would not like a rematch unless it takes place with all 3 judges being non-American, the ref being non-American and strict controls and watch over what the judges are up to in fight week and where they are going/who they are meeting.
Id agree with that scoring.
There was (IMO) no way that Ward won the last 6 rounds.
It was a close fight, but Ward was very lucky to get the UD.
Close rounds going the the home fighter, not the Champion...Ward could have stayed at Oakland and saved himself the flight ticket.
Ward does something's very, very well.
Especially his signature 'Billy GOAT head charge combination.'
Nobody in boxing has found a way to neutralize this lethal and exciting attack.
Who are these ''chunkettes'' you speak of? Please tell me you just made that up.
Just a handful of fat ugly b1tches that follow him around.
Kind of like the Khan 'army' which in reality is nothing more than half a dozen fat, Asian, middle aged cab drivers from Bolton.
Frampton has a huge fanbase and Degale has no fans. Degale should ask himself why that is.
Degale has no real fan base because his personality and egotistical attitude makes him come across as a total cvnt.
He has the chunkettes though...for whatever that's worth lol.
I was actually surprised at Brooks willingness to trade with GGG, he showed some real dog.
Without the damaged eye just think he would have lasted a few more rounds but the result was never really in doubt.
I give props to Brook, he showed his calibre as a technician AND his heart as a fighter.
He proved a lot of doubters wrong in those few rounds.
I have Brook taking a close decision.
He will have home advantage and at his very best he should beat Spence.
Spence is untested at the very highest level - I expect him to be very competitive and strong early.
Brook will derail the Spence hype train and than retire Khunt in 2017.
Personally I have been skeptical of the plaster accusations for the reason being that if they were plaster and as hard as many like to make out, then Cotto would have been busted up ALOT more than he was.
I'm no expert - but it would (IMO) be the equivalent of someone have something like a knuckleduster inside the glove, and that would still be able to inflict significant damage from the start of the fight.
That fact and the fact that Cotto is a sore ass loser makes me skeptical.
There is no way Kovalev will win a decision over Ward.
His only chance is to get a KO or stoppage - I suggest maybe in the first half of the fight.
Ward is the type of guy who works a fighter out and can make them look clumsy in the later rounds.
Kovalev needs to land something BIG early, and pour on pressure for a stoppage IMO.
Anthony Joshua is the future of boxing. There is no way to rationally refute that fact. He is massively big, extremely powerful, okay skilled and even pretty fast, too. He is young, only 27, and he has only fought 17 professional fights, but he managed to win all of them by knockout, even against 4 huge undefeated opponents in a row, and he is a world champion! Now he is about to fight Molina, which is a well-deserved break from his routine destruction of undefeated fighters. Joshua is a guy who comes to bang and he makes it damn entertaining every time. And he looks cool too. He got the image and style to bring boxing back and make heavyweight great again.:boxing:
Hate him or love him, Joshua is the future.[/QUOT
Post of the decade, right here...thanks Eddie.
GGG admitted he had problems with Brooks timing / range.
He is the type of fighter who likes to get a taste of his opponents power - I respect that hugely.
Its a dangerous tactic though, unless you are fighting Paulie.
I agree - you can get a feel for somebody power through your guard, not by letting them tee of on your chin lol.
I used to like doing this myself - it gives you ALOT of confidence when you know the guy is not 'heavy handed' even if he can out box you.
On the flip side, when you get that ringing in your ears even when hes hitting into your gloves...that's can be a concern.
I'd go with Hatton, he worked his way up the hard way and finished at the very top just coming up short.
Khan on the other hand was given gifts or fed bums in the early part of his career and when he stepped up he got beat by guys like Peterson and Garcia. Oh and career is effectively over already.
Brook could do more, if beat beat Spence, Khan and got a title at 154 there would l d be a good argument for Brook being second to Hatton.
I though Ward made himself look stupid when he did that sh1t.
At that point (IMO) he was LOSING the fight, but apparently he won all 6 of the last rounds.
Maybe he (and Jay Z) knew something nobody else did?
