I agree with Kovalev. All I heard was "Master boxer", "P4P no.1", "Super slick" yada yada, yet he got dropped and outlanded, how does that happen to the best?
Kovalev made him a simpler fighter last night. It was really stunning. Kovalev's never had the best defense, but he gave Ward so few options offensively. That's why it took Ward so long to get into the fight, because Kovalev's footwork and range control, along with his accuracy during their exchanges, wouldn't let Ward establish an attack. He was really great in this fight.
Kovalevs acting like a poor sport & and f.ucking b.itch he should show some class
He started strong and faded towards the end not doing enough to win the rounds, making excuses because he Russian f.ucking lame
Everyone sh.its on Cotto & Marquez for this type of sh.it, Kovs acting worse
He definitely lost some rounds but definitely not enough to lose the fight. Some folks just have no shame and it's pretty sad to see
Definitely? It was close. The judges went the other way.
Ward does something's very, very well.
Especially his signature 'Billy GOAT head charge combination.'
Nobody in boxing has found a way to neutralize this lethal and exciting attack.
He's got a point, nothing special i saw there, i thought this was supposed to be a boxing lesson but Ward got outboxed by a guy that supposedly only has power.
Well, you lost to that SIMPLE fighter or at the very least you struggled with him. Sooooooooooo, what does that say about you Mr Kovalev? ;)
Like I said, it doesn't mean Kovalev is special either...
Yeah, he's a "special" spoiler.
But he ain't no Floyd or Rigo.... or Pac or Marquez.
He's just adept at spoiling the fight.
Marquez dunno but he's not on Rigo, Floyd or Pac's level.
He doesn't have their athleticism.
Ward is more a modern version Bernard Hopkins.
He was supposed to white wash Kova but it didn't happen.
I told everybody Kova was a different animal than an old Kessler and Froch.
Both weren't A fighters.
Without any doubt. Kovalev was having some massive problems with a "simple fighter." Sucks for him.

To be fair. If ward wasnt special ...what does that say about Kovalev.

Kovalev has a right to feel frustrated but he's overspeaking. Ward was having his way with him like nobody else has when it was his turn. Ward is much better than Kovalev is giving him credit for. Way.
Probably that he isn't special either?
The difference was that no one was on his nuts bigging up his boxing skills and calling him a master boxer. Everyone assumed Kovalev's path to victory was going to be by knockout because that's the one edge he had in the fight. The consensus by the 'experts' was that Ward was going to give him a boxing lesson and win by a wide decision if it went to the scorecards... that didn't happen.
Well Ward did get dropped early - knockdowns can affect even the best of fighters. Sergey just has game changing power and it comes from distance from a guy who is also a very good boxer - that is so hard to deal with. Sugar Ray Leonard is widely considered the best boxer of the 1980's, but even he couldn't win a boxing match against Tommy Hearns - a naturally bigger, longer boxer/puncher with KO power.
You can't always shine against a guy - Ward was walking a tightrope for most of that fight because of the threat of Kovalev's power, oh and by the Kovalev knew he could hurt him, which makes things even harder! I think if anything this fight showed Ward's remarkable mental toughness and versatility to FIND a way. Neither guy lost anything tonight, you are just generalising and being a douche basically. Undermining both guys ability - usual negativity around here.

Well I guess the obvious reply here is that Kovalev has just dominated and knocked out a bunch of opponents in a row, and was not able to do that tonight, in fact he was barely able to land a worthwhile punch after round 6, so if Ward isn't special then he only has himself to blame.
When he calms down and reflects and watches the fight back, I think he'll realise that Ward is pretty special.
