Floyd like most of the truly gifted in this world is messed up in the mind. He truly is a disturbed human being but he's still the best at his craft. He was lucky to get Al Haymon on his side
I enjoy watching Floyd and for me the only nervous moments are early. When we start seeing rounds 5 and 6, it's usually about time to warm up the Limos because this usually means Floyd has things figured out.
This is exactly how I feel
Anyone saying that McCallum was not a viable opponent for this four is just boxrecing it. The bodysnatching was well respected and should have been given a shot. He should have been in that round robin but he was not.
1. Floyd beats both of with no rematch. I think Forrest would be more of a threat because of his jab and big right hand.
2. I think Oscar beats Forrest and loses to Wright.
3. Manny beats Wright and loses to Forrest.
I thought both Castillo and Maidana won against him, although both fights were close. he has played the game well, but undefeated? I don't think so. Of course, how many unbeaten fighters truly are unbeaten?
Mayweather knows that as long as a fight is close, it does not matter at this point. Having the name he does generally ensures victory in a close fight, but not always. Pacquiao-Bradley I is an example of when things can go the other way. Then again, Pacquiao was not protecting an unbeaten record either.
In the end, an unbeaten record usually means the fighter simply has not stepped up to a true challenge yet. Nearly all the greats lost at one time or another and no one cared. The announcers used to not even mention boxers' records. It wouldn't bother me if we returned to that policy.
I also have to bring up the Ortiz bout. Anyone else would have been disqualified.
LMAO....This really made me laugh....
roy whooping guys like julio gonzales at 175 is the equivalent of floyd fighting marg at 147.
which floyd never had the balls to do.
You realize Floyd dominated Canelo right?
That was a boxing lesson put on my Loma. He outclassed Russell. Gary has the fastest hands in boxing and has good power. But he could not catch Loman, and when he did he was hesitant due to the counters to head and body. Russell has to prove that he is an A level fighter. I suspect that he is but fighting like he did last night and the matchmaking is pointing to him being a protected fraud. His next fight should be Salido. Let's start there to see what he is
Remember when it was the Reyes punchers glove that were the best for punching. Floyd agreed to let Oscar (the much bigger man) to use those. He conceded to all of Oscar's demands. This is the world of boxing. Maidana has real power, if he's gonna hurt Floyd hes gonna hurt Floyd. They are using the same gloves, equal playing field.
Lol at the guy saying Devon Alexander>>>>>>Mayweather
If Floyd is scared why fight him again? Think about that. If he was scared to fight he wouldn't fight. Why would he be afraid when he as never been on his ass? Why is a ridiculous demand to ask for blood tests in a combat sport. Do you think it means more i baseball that boxing?
Did you think it was a ridiculous demand for Manny to ask for 10 million for every pound Floyd came in over weight?
not surprising, lots of big name fighters do that. nobody said **** when morales made maidana wear winnings, the glove that is actually known as the pillow glove. maidana hasnt been forced to wear pillow gloves against floyd, the gloves he wore in the first fight was considered the number two punchers glove behind reyes until everlast came out with their punchers glove (the one maidana wanted to wear). so that was more of a punchers glove than what he ended up wearing, but the ones he wore were in no way a pillow glove. nobody said **** when oscar made floyd wear a different pair of gloves than he wanted either.
The gloves he used against Mayweather were the same ones that Canelo demolished Angulo with.
Actually 47-0-0 and never been on his ass. There will an excuse for every victory.
Yes Alexander dominated Maidana in a way that Mayweather hasn't. It's clear that something about Maidana gives Floyd trouble but as a true master he finds a way to get it done.
As far as Floyd and Manny as offensive fighters. It's a matter of preference.
Floyd is more economical and accurate. Manny is a whirling derwish. Both are fast and have power. Knockout % is about the same (Manny 60%, Floyd 55%). The fact that Manny is wreckless allows more opportunities on offense but also leaves him vulnerable.
What alot of the Mayweather detractors underestimates it's his toughness, chin and heart. This nonsense about being scared is crazy. If he's scared why would he have rematch Castillo and Maidana?
If was afraid why would he still throw the pull counter after getting hurt by Maidana in the third?
For those who think Khan can beat him, yes Khan has a great jab and speed but he has to defend against an accurate puncher. Beating Collazo does not erase the Diaz fight.
Thurman has skill and maybe the future but he needs to fight some tough customers like Guerrero, Khan, Porter, Brook, Maidana before stepping up to the best. Time is not on his side.
I honestly feel Floyd only option is Manny. Hopefully it's a classic match and we can get a rematch and Floyd rides off into the sunset.
If no Manny I think he should retire. He's looked uninterested on Saturday
Great scrap last night.
I think the ref did a bad job but not for the reasons most are saying. Chaves came to fight dirty. The ref never got control of the situation. He didn't say anything about most of Chaves' foul so that when he took away a point it was awkward because he wasn't warning him. Then he penalized Rios to make up for the Chaves point. He should have warned Chaves for DDTing Rios but he didn't. Then the DQ was unwarranted at the time because there was no real foul, it was just Rios being fed up with the shenanigans.
As for the fight. I had it one point for Rios but won't argue the other way. I wish Chaves had more confidence in himself so that he wouldn't have to resort to all that dirtiness. He threw some beautiful shots and combinations. Rios tooka good punch kept the pressure and landed some great shots. He was not getting schooled but boxers clearly give him problems, nut boxers usually do that. Rios is still a good fighter. But I say no to this rematch.
Chaves would have been a far better matchup against Garcia. The Argentinian got some serious power and could KD chinny guys like Broner, Peterson, Alexander, etc. Rios got an iron chin and was too much for Chaves.
This guy could serve as a serious TBA for Haymon fighters. Guerrero would demand $2 million if he's asked to fight this guy.
How is Alexander chinny?
i think he beat tarver when he didn't have much left, so the point is moot...
bottom line is, as long as jones has wins on hopkins and toney, and Tarver on his resume, when it mattered most as another poster pointed out, roy can criticize floyd every day of the week, and the floydboys gotta take it...lol
The point was that Tarver thought Roy was ducking him. Just like Collins, Eubanks, Benn, Dariusz and the like.
Floyd eventually fought Cotto, Mosley, Dela Hoya etc...Does he get the props for having them on the resume?
I'm just saying. Love Roy, Floyd and Mike. My three all time faves
Roy is my favorite fighter of all time and I defend him to no end.
But in his hey day there were call for him to fight Nunn, McClellan and Dariusz. I never he thought he ducked them but people were saying the same thing about him that people are Floyd. People try to take you down when you're on top.
Somebody said Oscar fought everybody. He blatantly ducked Jose Luiz Lopez, he waited for Lopez to hurt Quartey to fight him. He avoided Tito for a minute. I was there for all of that.
Honestly Tito, Cotto and Toney are the only top boxers who I've ever seen fought anyone without excuses
Hopkins
Hopkins literally fought everybody.
He was not too excited to fight Toney, or to move up for Calzaghe, avoided Dawson for years and wanted no part of Ward
Lol @ you calling going up to heavyweight to make 100 year history a duck!!!!!!!!!
Had Roy not come back down and still beat Tarver, maybe there would be something really distantly resembling a duck, but what happened was pretty clearly a case of just daring to be greater. When Roy beat Ruiz, there was a part of media who thought he may have been in the top 3 best fighters of all time. You must've forgot if you ever knew in the first place.
P.S. Please don't think you told me something about Roy or the timeline that I didn't know. Please don't think that. Roy's my all time fav fighter and I know more than you or anyone else in here about him who hasn't literally f#cked the dude.
Did I say it was a duck? Roy is my all time favorite fighter and I ahve met him several times. I was a boxing scribe.
I'm not going to go back and forth with you about how much you know about him. I know I have seen every fight of his. I know during his reign he wanted no part of going to Europe and fight guys and know he would have killed. People said he was ducking, I just thought he was the best and he could call the shots. Now that Floyd is the man Roy is hating. Floyd ended up making smarter decisions.
Roy should've hung it up after the Ruiz fight or at least should have fought Holyfield, Tyson or Byrd at Heavyweight. Losing muscle to fight Tarver ruined an at the time impeccable legacy
The fact that he fought him while it still mattered is the key.
Not only that, an obviously shot version of him still won.
The only reason Tarver didn't fight Roy sooner is because he lost his shot when he lost to Eric Harding.
Get your facts straight.
If you call making over-seas fighters have to come to the US to face the P4P #1 fighter before he goes over there and possibly gets robbed, then Roy was a ducker.
Actually Tarver knocked out Harding and was inline for the title shot and Roy moved up to heavyweight. Tarver had earned the title shot before and Roy pretty much said it's between you and Harding for my belt. Harding beat Tarver the first time and got the shot, Tarver then beat Harding and Roy moved up. I don't call that a duck but by today's standards it seems like a duck. And that's sad
Paulie has much credibility and is one of the best boxing analysts out there. Everything he said his reasonable and rational. His criticism however seems mean spirited. But I don't think it is. The media treats Manny with rubber gloves because he just seems like such a great guy, he seems humble and he never really disrespects his opponents. That being said if Manny was clean he should have called Floyd's bluff for being this "coward." Instead we got all the excuses and no fight.
I think if the media was as harsh on Manny as they have been on Floyd we would have had this fight. I watched on First Take Manny say he offered me 40 Million Dollars like I'm some bum fighter. Skip nor Stephen A said nothing. They should have gotten after him for that remark. But he got a pass.
Manny is an all time great because even before his ridiculous run he accomplished a lot but he is only human and should be judged as such. He has not knocked out anyone since the accusation, that speaks volumes!
No one wanted to see Floyd v Khan except the UK fans. Maidana was the smart choice. As for Pacman, we know about this whole dog and pony show. They have not been serious since the first round of negotiations
ENOUGH OF THIS BULL****!
Honestly!
If as you 2 guys claim, that Floyd is better, then why the hell doesn't he fight him? FFS!
I mean the whole steroids thing, Floyd uses too (come on), it's 2014!
Why would he want that testing in the first place? Excuse to pull out!
Who gives a **** if the Philipino pugilist can't pass a drug test, what's Floyd scared of then, if he's so much better that wont matter!
I give Floyd a good chance vs Manny.
25%
I think that's being pretty objective! Prime for prime, Floyd didn't really look like he could beat Manny. Right now Floyd doesn't really look like he could beat Manny.
Every sport tests why wouldn't boxing, a combat sport test? Are you serious. Manny had a remarkable run from Diaz to Cotto, while moving up weight classes. If Manny thought Floyd was scared, why didn't he just call his bluff and take the test instead of , I'm afraid of needles, it drained against Morales etcc...
I love how you couldn't rebuttal me so you went to enough of this bull****...lmao... G Night
