A prime Jones is hard to qualify and quantify in fantasy matchups. A 168 version was faster than most welterweights. A fantasy welter version of Roy would have faster hands than Neo.
Anyway, this is a great matchup and much closer than some are making it out to be, where both men would dazzle us with skills a la the McCallum-Toney bouts. But if I had to choose one fighter to win any fantasy matchup, it would be a prime, motivated Roy Jones.
The Mayweather that fought JMM must have weighed at least 168, at weight Roy has also fought at.
So Floyd vs. Roy at 168...what happens?
Floyd has never weighed 168 in his life and he's not going to fight higher than 154. This fight would have never happened. Roy is the most talented fighter I've ever seen but over 12 rounds....It's close. I'd like to see Floyd's adjustments to Roy's flurries and antics. Floyd keeps his cool better than most.
Floyd has not, COULD not weigh 168.
And obviously Roy is a naturally much bigger fighter who would crush him at any catch weight.
There lb for lb standing is debatable.
The right answer is, floyd would never want to find that out. Roy would have been first on his official duck list.
you obviously dont know much history
Roy vs Floyd..
It would look like the first 4 rds of zab-Floyd, but for all 12 rds.. I don't see how Floyd beats jones... Jones was just as smart, just as fast if not faster, both are good ring generals-Floyd maybe slightly better, but the deciding factor would be that Roy had serious one punch power in his prime, Floyd never had that, and I think Roy's power and explosiveness would lead him to victory via decision
Floyd had mad power at SFW. Also Zab was a Southpaw so its night & day kinda like how alot of people think the southpaw Tarver wouldve always given him hell. Also u guys keep talking about JLC but Griffin did just as well in there first fight. That was going down to the wire
fundementals will beat that stuff 99 out of 100 times. Thats why when guys get old or past there prime, dudes like that fade quicker. Meanwhile others can fight at a high level for a million years because they are so technically sound. Again, I wont be upset at anyone picking RJ as he is clearly an ATG but dont act like this is a sure thing. Its not
This ****ing guy

Actually Arum said he did.
And how is the choice to leave TR, make the same amount of money and win the lineal title a duck?? Then a fight that would make him the cash cow of boxing. Absolute nonsense! Do you HONESTLY think that Arum would've allowed him to fight Margarito without signing an extension with TR?? History shows that Floyd leaving TR and not fighting Margarito for 8 mil was the 100% move. Only haters say different.
he didn't fight marg who was one of the top 147 guys.
end of.
save your excuses for the floyd duck thread *******s make every week.
i hate the bhop was so green during roy fight excuse.
yes he didn't have am background but he turned pro before roy and had a couple more fights than roy.
5 yrs, 20+ fights. is no beginner.
roy whooping guys like julio gonzales at 175 is the equivalent of floyd fighting marg at 147.
which floyd never had the balls to do.

he was like 195.
and he had to bulk up to that.
just compare him to his opps at 175. prime roy was smaller than bhop when bhop was 160 champ.
175 was never a glamour division.
they had good fighters as other divisions, just not well known names.
hell is ricky hatton much better than clinton woods?
or marg better than julio gonzalez?
not really but hatton and marg were more popular hence better known so guys like pac and floyd get more credit.
look, Im not a Roy hater. He's damn near close to the GOAT but Floyd is a great fighter in his own right and styles also make fights. I just see RJ having more problems with Floyd then the other way around. RJ said himself that he thinks the scale was wrong because when he weighed himself he was at 200 either that morning or the night before and yes Hatton is a hell of alot better than Woods
I always thought, fundamentally, floyd and james came from the same school of boxing, whereas jones made his own school...roy pretty much knew that style well, whereas toney and hopkins didn't know where jones was coming from.
100% true but Toney is the least disciplined guy by far out the whole crew. Ballooning up in weight all the time. Floyd is like Toney with less power but more speed which would be good against Roy. RJ was young when he fought Hopkins but Bernard was super green.
I still say til this day that everyone talks about Floyd-Pac but no one ever talks about the RJ-Hopkins rematch anymore. To me that was just as big and we missed out on it. Hopkins was so special at the time of the Tito fight. Fast foward to the future and we see how well Hopkins fought at 175 and how big/strong he is. That tells me that if he had fought RJ at 168 like they were suppose to, he wouldve had no problem at looking good at that weight.
I still say even in a loss, Hopkins gave Roy by far the toughest fight of his career besides Griffin. If they had the rematch you would still have to favor Roy but I think it wouldve been hell for him and it wouldnt shock me at all if Hopkins won. No one was going to dominate that version of Hopkins and us as fans missed out on in (even though I blame Hopkins for pricing himself out with his ego)
most thought the guys at LHW werent that great though and Roy was a very solid 200 pounds of muscle at HW

this guy knows.
all you kids that never saw roy fight just go download his career.
boxing didn't begin with floyd.
anyone who thinks floyd is close to roy athletically never saw roy fight.
floyd might be greater and better boxer but he's not gifted as roy physically.
Watch the tape. Bill Miller tells James the whole fight to catch the hook, and come back with your hook. It was the right instruction, but James could never catch it. It was all downhill from there.
