Damn. 20 million dollars....
Well, that should take care of any idiots saying "(my favorite boxer) wouldn't do that, Floyd is a joke!" or anything like that.
Oscar may not be all that, and he may be a cross-dresser, but if that was Ricky Hatton in the ring with him on May 5th it would've been a W instead of an L. Hatton isn't in the top 3 of his opponents, and not even close to the best...whats wrong with you guys?
I don't buy into, watch, or care about prefight hype/bullshit, because thats all it is. But just for the record, we all remember Ricky saying Floyd would never get to him, and he was going to remain the same as always, laughing it off. Now, look at him. He fell away from that gameplan months ago, started talking trash, and now is even making throat slitting gestures.
Like I said, prefight bullshit, no bearing either way on what happens...but just for the record...
Williams beat Mitchell's ass all up and down the ring. He just didn't care about getting hit back. If he really wanted to keep him outside and box him up without taking too many hits, he could have. He fought that way because he wanted to, just like he did to that other kid on the Floyd/Baldomir (I think) undercard, Santos something or other.
The swing over the top rope to the back of the head was the most flagrant, clear foul of the bout, and Cortez warned them in the locker room that he was having none of that shit. The point deduction was completely justified. If he took a point for every single elbow, forearm, shoulder, hold or any of the 100 other inside fouls, both fighters would've been DQ'd by round 4.
I don't think Cotto is overrated, but I got a huge problem with people talking about him like he's some kind of legendary gatekeeper of the 147lb division, that Floyd MUST fight in order to get respect for beating a "true WW", when he's only been at 147 for like a year. (don't feel like checking dates.)
Cotto is still just a dangerous up and coming 147 pound titlist, nothing more than that.
Well then you should get use to having that problem because Cotto is exactly that guy.
1. No he is not. Cotto is an up and comer, Hopkins was a gatekeeper in his division, there is a huge difference between the two.
2. The reason I brought up Miguel's weight and length of time at 147 is because of the fact that if Floyd would've taken this fight 6 months ago and won, people who dislike him would be calling Cotto "just another blown up JWW". Those terms are stupid and I wish people would stop using them. If Cottos only place in the record books is as "just another fighter that Floyd ducked", then that kinda proves that he is not that guy. The point is, there is always a Cotto out there. The fact that Paul Williams has JUST stepped onto the scene, and now people are saying Floyd is ducking him is rock solid proof of that. I like Williams and picked him to punish Margo, but the kid was just on Friday Night Fights last year, let's be real.
Floyd beating Miguel Cotto won't prove anything other than that he could beat Cotto. His legacy is intact, whatever he decides to do from here on out.
I'm not saying he'd beat Floyd, but Cintron and below for sure, and possibly Cotto. In reality, he won't ever get a fight with Mosley, but if he got in the ring with anyone except Mayweather right now, I'd pick Williams.
You know, people can say what they want about his big mouth, but the fact is, before he started being a jackass, he wasn't making this kind of money. Not even close. You can say that the De La Hoya fight drew the fans because of Oscar (which is certainly what I thought), but he did huge numbers this time too. Gatti wasn't long ago, and I'm pretty sure that was his first PPV and he was on the p4p list way before that.
Yea I think they're funny...but on the last season of The Boondocks, one of the characters complained that 'watching my (black) folks act crazy is quickly becoming the national pastime'.
I stopped watching 24/7 halfway through the 1st episode. I like Floyd, but I'm not buying into all this prefight crap anymore. HBO and various other media outlets, not to take fault away from the boxers themselves, are turning a once respectable sport into a circus. Or more of a circus, I should say.
Plenty of people knew that Jones/Tarver 2 was a bad idea for Roy, especially after Jones/Tarver 1, and Glenn Johnson/Jones wasn't too much of a suprise, given Roy had just gotten KO'd and given a gift in his last 2.
But you got a point. Hatton winning wouldn't be the biggest upset in the history of boxing, but I doubt it'll happen.
There are a lot of classic bad decisions that many people want to bring up, but the Santa Cruz/Casamayor fight has really set the new standard.
That shit was EPIC. The bar has been forever raised...you aren't going to top that one for a long time to come.
Great. You think his last two fights were boxing clinics. JMM's last fight was a boxing clinic, those DLH-Baldo fights are not.
How a person thinks gives clues on how he fights in the ring. Hence, attitude analysis is relevant to a boxing discussion. You're just mad that the current whipping boy happens to be your favorite fighter.
Not my favorite fighter. Sorry if you thought you knew me that well...you don't.
Anyway, I wouldn't/didn't call the DLH fight a clinic, but the Baldo fight was for sure. You are just mad that you watch Floyd fight just to see him get KO'd, and no one has been able to do it...yet. I even stated that I didn't join this discussion to defend his fighting style or anything like that, just curious as to why everyone cares so much about celebertiy attitudes.
Anyway whatever bud, keep watching Floyd just to watch him get KO'd, if thats what works for you. History has shown that eventually it'll happen if he keeps fighting. When it does happen, I'm sure you'll feel real validated, though I'm not sure why. Whatever floats your boat, my friend.
You guys should watch boxers box, and stop putting so much stock into their attitudes and personal lives. You sound like a bunch of women.
NEWS FLASH: 95% of all famous people are jackasses. 95% of them would not sit and have a drink with you if they met you on the street, regardless of how nice you think they look on camera.
Watch famous athletes do whatever it is that got them famous and be happy with that. They are not your friends, they do not need you to check their attitudes.
Where was the boxing in his last two fights? Where?
Baldo and de la hoya?
I don't understand the question. He outboxed Baldomir for the WBC and Ring championship belts, maybe gave up 2 rounds. Maybe.
He outboxed DLH for a split decision. You can say "He fought a boring fight" or "he didn't mix it up enough for me" but to ask "where was the boxing" is pretty silly. The fight with Baldo especially was a boxing clinic...
Look guys, I'm not even in this thread to defend Floyd's fighting style. All I'm saying is a lot of famous people are assholes, who cares? Keyshawn Johnson is one of my favorite receivers of all time. You think I care that he's a jackass? He wrote a fucking book called "Just Give Me The Damn Ball" for God's sake. A lot of you all size up celeberties attitudes like you are looking for a potenial husband, yet you have the audacity to call their fans "nuthuggers".
Think about it.
Thats what happens when the whole world leads you to believe that your opponent can't punch, and you spend your whole training camp with 0 respect for his power, and fail to come up with a plan B.
I'm sure Ricky Hatton has more than one gear, what he needs is a trainer that can come up with a backup plan on the fly. Thats where you benefit from having a former world champion in your corner. People say a lot of shit about Roger Mayweather, but the fact is, he gives great advice, you just have to listen for it in between all the "bitches" and "mothafuckas" that he puts out there.
Zab would murder Hatton at 147, in like 5 or 6 rounds. If somehow he makes it more than halfway through the fight, which I doubt, then Ricky has a chance of breaking him down.
If he manages to avoid that turnbuckle.
It's understood that Pavlik hits hard, but Taylor hasn't ever shown that he can't take a punch, and given his resume compared to Pavlik's, I don't understand how a lot of people aren't giving JT a shot in this fight. I also think it's insulting that Pavlik is going to be the betting favorite. I mean, he smashed on Miranda, but honestly, who didn't see that coming? Whether or not anyone wants to admit it, Taylor is a huge jump up in class for Pavlik...Miranda is a duck, if he wasn't sick, Alan Green probably would've schooled him. Pavlik might win by TKO, but there is a much better chance that JT will box him up.
Are you guys seriously so anxious to see Floyd lose that you are actually entertaining the thought that Ricky Hatton can beat him, or even make it 12 rounds in the ring with him?
And no, this wouldn't be his toughest fight to date, it wouldn't even be his toughest fight at 147, be serious.
Am I the only one who thinks Vargas is going to put this guy to sleep? I like Mayorga kinda, but I don't really think he's going to make it through all 12 rounds fighting Fernando at 162 or w/e the weight is...
I don't understand what about Ricky Hatton suggests to people that he can beat Mayweather, and I guess I never will. The fight won't even be close though, if it does make it to the end of the 12th, which it might not, expect a wide margin of victory by PBF. Argue the rest all you want, I personally am a huge fan of Floyd's, but I can think of about 8-9 other fighters off the top of my head at 147 that would not only wipe the floor with Hatton, but also that I would've liked to see PBF fight instead of beating up on a slightly overrated Hatton. I'm not even really convinced he could beat the other 140 pound title-holders.
I know you guys want to see him lose, but trust me, Ricky Hatton is setting his fans up for failure. You are being tricked...I'm not even sure he really believes he can win this fight.
People in hell want ice-water. We can't always get something just because we want it badly. Hatton is going to get murdered in that ring and he knows it. This ain't a movie.
I like Kelly Pavlik, and anyone with eyes shouldve forseen him beating down Miranda, who is just a 160 version of Mayorga, but I'm pretty sure Taylor is not only going to beat him down, but do it pretty easily.
It's sad when a fighter who has fought to a draw with Winky, put on 2 EXCELLENT performances against Bernard Hopkins (whether or not you agree with the decision(s), you can't argue that no one has looked that good against B-hop since his last loss, to Jones. That in itself is impressive.), and beat down Kassim Ouma, all fighters who are proven champions, gets put as the underdog to a good but really untested fighter. I'll give him Bronco McKart, and he looked good on Zertuche and Miranda, but still, thats pretty disrespectful.
No comment on the Spinks fight though :tapedshut :tapedshut
I wouldn't call the man boring. I like his style. It's not like he is afraid to scrap. He has his own style that focuses on his natural ability. I hate that whenever someones strongest natural talents aren't an iron chin and power, they get labeled as wack boxers. If every boxer fought exactly the same, we'd just be watching MMA.
(no disrespect, I actually like MMA but damn...)
