Why is this whole floyd ducking canelo talk coming up? Is it just people hating on floyd, finding something to complain about? Besides matinez, trout (no fanbase), lara (no fan base) and pacquiao, guerrero is the next best option.I think Floyd is a excellent fighter and I have pure admiration for the way he has not let his talent squander.
He may of risked not achieving excellence if it hadnt been for strict family according to stuff I read on Floyd in a book .Hence went a bit lapse in training and after a prep talk early on in is career by one of his Uncles(I think it was) got him back disciplined. Hence physical and technical excellence was the bar which they didnt want to shirk from.Since then hasnt looked back.
He's past his prime now and if he wants to take calculated risks and fight the likes of Conor McGregor so be it.I wish he wouldn't though as I wouldnt want to see him loose and tarnish that brilliant legacy.
As for Canelo Floyd knows he is past his prime and doesnt want to fight a improved Canelo. Something which is understandable.Hence I still feel a fit prime Floyd beats a fit prime Canelo comfortably.Floyd at his peak just looks the far more fluid technical boxer to me.
But why not fight a prime nel o whilst you are past prime? What's the worst that could happen, lose maybe?
Floyd s got more to gain than lose. He's only got unbeaten record to lose. Unless Floyd thinks people think more of that unbeaten record than he does. But to gain he has a lot more to gain. His doubters will have less to doubt if Floyd won. Floods actually pretty good and better than people thought. He's soon going to be 43 which is roughly 8 years past a boxers prime. Many boxing analysts could see in some of his later fights that he was ageing and his reflexes werent the same as they once were.
A prime Canelo vs a Prime Floyd would not exist because a Prime Canelo is a 168 fighter.Yes but for pure boxing technicality I feel Floyd is better than Canelo.
Possibly a lack of great heavyweights and the way Fury fought in the first Wilder fight. I think his personality may have something to do with it as he can be quite inspiring (although this maybe just to market himself ). I still credit him for the way he fought Wilder, especially in the first fight. Very inspiring for me.
Fury has been getting fall down drunk in public while Usyk has been in the gym.
Fury has been dropped six times in his last nine fights and eight times overall.
Usyk is going to stop him this time.Yes, I hope Uysk does beat Fury again. It reflects more what the ideal fighter should be; professional and a gentleman
Fury wins it for me.The best technical heavyweight boxer on the plant.
Will be hungrier and fitter now with a point to prove.I can see Fury being more up for for this one than the Wladmir Klitschko fight.
I am picking the windmill of doom to land the big one and put Fury down for the full count. He can study film of the first fight and improve his performance more than Fury can. He will have the advantage of being able to hurt Fury and put Fury down and out while Fury apparently can't hurt Wilder much. He needs to go for the KO again because he can't beat Fury on points in my opinion unless he scores knockdowns again or preferably a KO..Fury may bulk up for the fight though to give him more power?
He doesn't need to, he just needs to sit down on his punches more when he gets Wilder into trouble.I still think though a more muscular Fury will be more dangerous.Look at Daniel Dubois for one.I think he has it all .Power, good technique and a good mindset?
Fighting Dan Martz and Hammer , Kaufman ? Sure but when has he actually looked top 10 guy ? Can’t be his Wilder fight because he stopped moving after the 5th round ?Hypothetical I know but I reckon a prime Ortiz v a prime Whyte Ortiz wins.
Whyte whilst being a good fighter never has me excited like Ortiz does.Just a natural observation when Ive seen both fighters fight.Ortiz looks physically and technically better than Whyte.
Hence I think Ortiz problem was he started professional so late in boxing eg first fight at 30.
As noted apart from Fury/Wilder/Joshua and the upcomer Daniel Dubois I would rate Ortiz as one of the best.Albeit he is ageing but I was impressed with the way he fought against Wilder in both fights even if he did loose.
Ortiz was trying to hurt him. Fury was more of an annoyance ,there’s a difference between toughest and difficulty. Fury can be both in the rematch,I got him by stoppage because he can be boxer and a puncher . Those who think he can’t punch and hurt Wilder don’t really watch full Wilder fights otherwise they would see he can get stunned rather easily .
I’d say Ortiz last year was his toughest fight , it’s harder to fight a guy trying to end the fight, Fury will go for the knockout and take away his offense , watch.
Yes but still surprised that you thought Ortiz didnt look good against Wilder in both fights.I watched the highlights of the first and bought the second fight. In the first fight it was the closest to Wilder ever being stopped. In the 2nd fight he was winning almost all the rounds prior to being stopped in the 7th.
.
What’s with your weird negative obsession with Wilder? Its a shame that some dont see more positives with Wilder.Listening to the boxing podcast on the BBC Mike Costello I think it was had Wilder as the hardest hitting heavyweight of the last 30 years just behind Lennox Lewis and i think it was Ernie Shavers.
Ortiz didn’t look good at all and Wilder still looked worse then the last fight they had .
.Of interest though when asked who was the toughest opponent Wilder had faced he said Ortiz.Rated the Ortiz fight tougher for him than Fury which surprised me.
They're just going off the filed purse, which is always bogus for big fights. Not overly keen on the Sun as a newspaper. Ive always felt the Guardian is the best for quality journalistic coverage.
Wilder has been the world champion of the entire sport of boxing for five years now. The unified NYSAC/IBU/NSC heavyweight champion of the world, tracing back over a hundred years. He's made ten successful defenses and next month he attempts to become the lineal world heavyweight champion as well.
Is this why he is so hated? Nobody expected him to come this far, so everybody feels stupid for assuming he would fail?
Sure the trolls will cry and say he's protected or hasn't fought top fighters, but Boxrec proves that's complete bull****. Until recently, he was #1 in the world in the computerized rankings and even now he is #2.
If Wilder knocks out Fury and becomes the lineal heavyweight champion of the world, what will the haters say then? And Teddy agrees 😉
Johnny Tapia- Had a terrible childhood that led to many drug abuse issues throughout his life. He died of heart failure at age 45.Sad when you read stories like his. Ive often wondered how many of us would end up like him if we were in similar shoes?
Whyte is more proven then Ortiz . Chisora is slightly below Ortiz stylistically for Wilder but posters on here act like Ortiz is some unbeatable ATG when his best win is Jennings years ago who is not as good as Chisora is now . There’s also some shady business in that first fight but whatever . HaMaybe but I still feel Ortiz looks the better fighter overall.
3. Deontay Wilder
Why? He can lose as many rounds as he needs, as long as he gets the one-two placed right the fight’s pretty much over.
.Ive only recently been getting into boxing in a big way and for me Wilder has extraordinary power. The 2nd Ortiz fight was almost unbelievable. Ortiz who is a very decent if ageing fighter dominates most rounds and is winning comfortably. One punch by Wilder in the 7 th and Ortiz is finished.
Joke article. Pac s did far more over 10 years than floyd ever did. The amount of losses Floyd has denied us by only fighting 5 years? He's a law upon himself.Floyd was the more talented though.
From reading around a ferocious fighter.
Soon as Cus died it all started to dismantle. As others have alluded to on here Cus was like his surrogate dad and held him together physically and emotionally. Soon as King got hold him it started to unravel.
Iam no expert on boxing having only read around eg boxing autobiography's etc and what I see on the television and old boxing videos but I have a feeling other fighters may have been technically better.Hence Muhammad Alli,Lennox Lewis and even modern day fighters like Fury. What Tyson had though was a bit like Wilder has today ferocious power albeit a boxer as well ?
Winner of Fury/Wilder 2 versus Anthony Joshua (has to happen by the end of the year)
A100%.If Wilder or Fury ends up fighting Joshua though in their late 30s Iam not buying the fight .:grr:
Floyd Mayweather was an absolute boxing legend. Discipline personified outside the ring eg didnt drink to excess or smoke and didn't squander his talent. In my lifetime probably my favourite boxer.I'll have to wait on others notably Fury and Wilder before they finish their career to see how they weigh up against Mayweathers. In fairness to Fury/Wilder the best fight I ever saw was the their first fight notably for the way Fury got back up from that 12th round knockdown 😮.
... while Bradley has Canelo... :)
(moments ago on ESPN+...)Iam a big fan of Andre Ward.Very good fighter who is religious as well. When he talks I tend to listen 😉
would have loved to have seen a prime pac vs prime floyd...i would have given pac more of a chance in that one....its too bad his promoter/controller stalled it for years....out of either fear he would lose or pure spite towards floyd becoming a star without him....we will never really knowI think Floyd wins.
The boxer that got me into boxing, the legend himself. After a few years of lackluster fights at TR, Pac vs Thurman was one of the most exciting fights i’d seen. Wish he would retire before he gets hurt but he always remain my all time favorite fighter for being the reason i’m a big boxing fan
I like Pacquiao as a boxer and his story of coming from nothing to becoming something.
Interesting comment by Jonny Nelson the Sky Sports boxing pundit. Asked who would of won when both Mayweather and Pacquaio were in their primes he stated Mayweather no contest. To slick, quick and technical .
