It’s petty but a r etarded fanbase can turn would be fans away from a fighter
Fanbases with zero historical context declaring their guy the goat when his record is far from it
the most recent fanbase being Oleksandr’s 3rd world ukrainies
TBud briefly with those afrocentric tribalists
manny’s paqturds again with the 3rd world education thinking
Those same people hated Bud with a passion when he was with Top Rank and didnt switch to Haymon.......
Nobody seems to have batted an eyelid that the Floyd vs Mike Tyson exhibition was cancelled.
Most folks probably never believed (or cared) it was even "on" in the first place........
I will watch this by myself, that way after its as awful as I expect, I can deny having ever watched it.
I expect a 12 round snoozefest. If Manny couldnt put Barrios on the floor, theres no way he's putting Floyd there.
I can't speak for anyone else but I personally won't give Paramount one thin dime. I have had a beef with them since the 80s with their shoddy treatment of the FRIDAY THE 13TH series, and that's a benign grievance at best in comparison with other shady practices of which they're involved. They are the epitome of corporate stooges.
Paramount has pretty good tv content though. Landman, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Lioness, etc etc
garbage article.
Raskin wants to blame it on private equity executives and bean counters. But the bottom line is that if boxing was profitable, every single one of those executives would still be buying content. But promoters (and fighters) allowed the product to devolve into garbage that ultimately made it a loser for the content buyers. It wasnt personal for them. It was business.
Weak, inconsistent content made boxing unattractive to the media buyers. Plain and simple
he should have never left floyd floyd would not have let him slide like this and floyd and his choice of opponents would be perfect for tank u cant let tank make any decisions at alll zero he just does what floyd says and floyd takes his cut tank got greedy but is now paying the price in the end tank would be still sitting pretty if he was with floyd
not sure that Floyd is the best role model in the world when it comes to women......LOL
It’s in the news: Terrence Crawford has retired from boxing.
He proclaimed himself the GOAT after beating only two elite opponents—one who suffered vision problems from a car accident, and another who was clearly past his prime. Honestly, his résumé is too thin to support those claims.
Crawford accused Pacquiao of using PEDs while repeatedly using Pacquiao’s name to gain attention. Pacquiao fans responded by challenging him to win titles across eight divisions if he wants the right to be compared to Manny.
Yet Crawford shows no interest in fighting Benavidez or Bivol. Unlike Pacquiao, who climbed weight classes and conquered bigger, stronger opponents, Crawford avoided that path.
This should have been Crawford’s moment to truly prove he’s a GOAT—but instead, he chose to retire, wtf!
Uhmmm, Bud was UNDISPUTED in 3 different divisions. Pac was undisputed in exactly ZERO divisions. Now dont get me wrong, collecting belts in 8 divisions is a nice achievement, but he was never undisputed in ANY division.
And beating Benevidez or Bivol wouldnt do much for Buds legacy anyways. Haters like you would still complain. I can hear it now..... who has Benevidez beat? Who has Bivol beat? etc etc lol.
Do I personally think Bud is the GOAT? No, I dont. But he's definitely in the conversation................
They should definitely go back to same-day weight ins, but Suliamian wont have anything to do with it. At least in the US. It will be up to each individual State Boxing Commission as to which day they do weigh ins.....
I wouldnt have given him much of a chance vs Mike, because I dont think he had the kind of power at heavy that he would have needed to keep Mike off of him. And the fact that he has a cement beard, means he would have taken TREMENDOUS punishment in that fight, until the ref eventually stops it...............
There’s a great quote that I read not too long ago in one of Thomas Hauser’s books. In it, I believe he quoted Floyd Patterson when he said that what fighters fear most is not necessarily the pain or another fighter per se. What they fear most is the sensation of being embarrassed in front of others…
…which is essentially what it’s like to be losing in a fight. You can’t rely on team-mates, you can’t call for a timeout, you can’t lie back and coast. You’re essentially bare in front of thousands (maybe millions) and every little thing is magnified. It’s a lot of pressure and it’s why I believe this sport is more brutal than it looks. You can be the most chiseled, strongest brute when you step in the ring, but if the mental makeup of a fighter isn’t there, then strength and power mean jack.
If Jermell had fought again by now he could’ve salvaged his career, but right now it might be Jermell of all people to be more in the public’s good graces than his brother…boxing is quite fickle.
What other sport (besides combat) can you be ridiculed on your way out of the arena while being hurt, battered, concussed, or stretched? Imagine that, fighting for your life, genuinely giving it your all and having thousands who previously adulated you turn on a dime and ridicule you as you’re getting your clock cleaned…it’s not the pain so much, but rather being metaphorically undressed and not being able to do anything about it. And if you pull the plug (as say Nicholas Walters Guillermo Rigondeaux did against Loma), you will never hear the end of it.
tank davis disagrees with this statement..........
Lara ended up fighting a ton of good fighters either way. Andrade never did.
Lara vs world title winners (not including WBA secondary titlists like Trout):
D vs Carlos Molina MD 10
L vs Paul Williams MD 12
L vs Canelo Alvarez SD 12
W vs Ishe Smith UD 12
W vs Jan Zaveck TKO 3
W vs Yuri ForemanKO 4
L vs Jarrett Hurd SD 12
D vs Brian Castano SD 12
W vs Danny Garcia RTD 9
and he's fighting Janibek next.
Andrade vs world title winners:
L vs David Benavidez RTD 6
without looking up each of those fights, I would suspect that most of them were because it was a mando, or some other "compelling" reason, like someone doesnt want to vacate their title, or pay step-aside money.
NOBODY tells their promoter, "GET ME LARA!!!! THATS THE FIGHT I WANT!!!", because if it isnt a mando or a title shot, there's no reason to fight him. He doesnt draw flies, he will stink the joint out, and after you beat him people will either say "so what?" or they will claim Lara got jobbed on the cards lol.
Its a no-win situation
nobody "avoided" andrade or lara. When there is not a single compelling reason to fight someone, "not" fighting them is not a duck. Andrade and Lara couldnt sell out their own dinner tables, were notoriously difficult to negotiate with, and did not have styles that 99% of ticket buyers want to see. It wasnt that they were avoided, it was that there was no real reason for the top guys to fight them in the first place............
Most states regulate the allowable weight difference (at the time of the weigh-in) between the fighters. In Florida for example, a 147 pound fighter could not fight a 160 pound fighter, because regulations only allow for a 12 pound maximum spread. Different states have different rules......
(2)***8195;The commission shall establish by rule the acceptable difference in weight between participants; however, the maximum difference in weight in boxing matches shall not exceed 12 pounds, except matches in the cruiserweight and heavyweight classes and exhibitions held solely for training purposes.
Im not sure why this is so difficult to understand for Ward fans, but I'll try and explain it S-L-O-W-L-Y so you can grasp it:
GGG said he will fight ANYONE from 154-168. That being said, a fighter can say whatever they want, if the revenue isnt there the fight isnt happening. The fact is that his promoter (and any other knowledgeable boxing people) knows full well the revenue does not yet exist to make a GGG-Ward fight, so discussing it makes no sense. GGG has not yet developed a large enough fan base, and even after Ward dominated the Super Six, he still cant sell out the first 4 rows of a school bus. So bottom line is there is NOT ENOUGH MONEY to make the fight. Period. Anyone who has followed boxing longer than a week should know this. If there was enough money, Im sure Ward/Goosen (at that time), or Ward/RocNation (now) would have sent an offer over to K2, just like Top Rank did for the Chavez fight.
jeez.............
Edit: And I must be right because so far at least 2 Ward fangirls have felt the need to red k me, like it matters lol
So much hypocrisy in this thread, the fans of GGG are really doing him a disservice, although they seem to be scared of Ward I'm sure GGG is more than up for the challenge.
That being said, the bold is true and it also applies to a Ward vs Kovalev fight so people should quiet down and relax for a bit. Ward deserves at least one tune up to see where his skills are at, contrary to popular fan belief, not every fighter returns from a long layoff firing on all cylinders..........
thats just silly. Even though I think GGG-Ward would be a 50-50 fight, a loss here or there never affected my admiration for a fighter. Personally I'd love to see the fight, and if GGG lost I'd still be every bit the fan I am right now, so I dont get where some people think "fear" comes into the equation........
Haymon is currently in negotiations with:
CBS, CBS SportsNet & S P I K E TV
He is doing more then bringing Boxing back to network TV.
The PBC will soon be announced as a league and no fighters in it will be part of WBC, WBA etc.
With his own league The Ali Act will no longer apply as there are no "promoters" much like the UFC or WWE. Fighters will sign Non-Compete Clauses and will have guaranteed purses and percentage of event profits built into contracts.
Think everyone should take notice...guy is trying something. Good or bad....we are gonna see good fights on regular TV and soon more then on just NBC. What I find interesting is the 2 biggest networks known for sports:
ABC/ESPN & Fox
Are not involved. I see Haymon planning on starting a legit sports league on both NBC and CBS and in 2 years when the contracts are up the prayer is the 2 sports networks bid like crazy against each other for all the rights.
this statement is the dumbest thing I've heard all year........
Yeah, Cotto can do what he wants and so can HBO.
^^ true story, although in this particular situation HBO seems to have the upper hand for the moment.......
Ridiculous ... The replay of Mayweather PAC alone would really hurt those numbers and lets say if by some chance Manny beat Floyd what would HBO do? Not show the replay? Or show it and have it compete against their own ppv ... Lol that's just bad business. Canelo is still green..
Is he? Because it seems he has a fight coming up that will be shown alongside the replay of the biggest fight in the history of the sport.
Meanwhile Cotto is fighting uhmmmm, who? when? on what network?
Exactly
