The absolute worse thing to come to this site is taking the sides of promoters managers and Networks. REALLY? REALLY? That's what it comes to? Absolutely pathetic.
Well said, it's ****in unreal.
Y'all need to quit hating on my main man Bob Arum.
Team Arum all day every day.
Now that Duva is on our side Haymon is shook.
Showtime is shook, HBO and Arum are making that comeback.
Team Arum and HBO all day!
Arum is going to give the fans what he wants to give the fans and for some reason he has this immunity in which fans and boxing media just refuse to criticize the old man.
Oscar I give credit, him and Eric Gomez I do think want to match up the Best vs the Best but they're learning that even after splitting from Haymon and Schaefer, it is not easy to get Big Fights Done unless both of those fighters are with your Promotion
The rest really have no Power in the sport, they all basically depend on the Promoters at the top to "HOPEFULLY" work with them. They can't really make any Power Moves in the sport and command a lot of for their fighter(s)
Here is the dilemma all summed up into one for why people don't like Haymon, so listen up.
Haymon runs his show doing a great job promoting his select fighters making them hundreds of thousands with "easy" opponents. The whole pretentious nature Haymons promotion is with acting like there is no politics involved with his "free" agents is downright bull sh*t. They are monopolizing a business thinking they have all the answers. That's why it will fail. The beauty of business is consumers want what they can't have. Haymon can't sustain that kind of power and influence. Especially with Roc Nation, Golden Boy, Top Rank all banking on his downfall. Who knows what promotional companies will come into fruition in the next five years. I mean Cotto has one now, Roy Jones, and Canelo wants to have his own. It's futile is what I'm saying, he has just made to many enemies and too much noise.
I will give him credit: I don't know how he trained so many idiots to defend him so incessantly, but it's kind of impressive considering their IQ to begin with.

Why does it have to be "one" leading boxing? All promoters should be able to work together.
right there.
he's just another snake in a pile of snakes, except he never comes out of the shadows. he does good and he does bad. A certain group of fans immortalize him for the most obvious of reasons and that's why he and his fighters get called out.

and ur f*cking options suck son
Hey guys, I think we all need to give Haymon some respect and love. I think he seriously wants to help this sport. To make it better!! And it's not right that we hate him for doing something good for once.
I think deep down he is all good, and will truly make boxing into the global spectacle entertainment giant that it once was.

you could say the era of the best fighting the best died when floyd rose to prominence alongside haymon. so sure maybe haymon will make a splash now but he is obviously going to us bob's inhouse tactics. haymon will do good with his vast stable of fighters and network deals but he will likely block fights if they don't involve both of his fighters. so at times the best will not fight the best. he created this era of soft touches and protected fighters. the sport will still be divided but since he has a large chunk of the prominent fighters he will also be able to put on more big fights than anyone else. he will still hold the sport back if he isn't able to reach out and make fights with GBP and Top Rank though, because they will always also have marquee top fighters. GBP & Top Rank have good talent scouts. There will be guys coming up on HBO that we will want to see against Haymon's guys and it won't happen.
Hymen is doing the same thing that Duva just tried to do..........IT WON'T WORK!!!!! Boxing is not a big sport in America. Until you solve that problem in itself, you will always have a massive problem trying to make hardcore fans out of casuals. Joe Schmoe and his kids are likely going to change the channel once the Parks and Rec goes off and boxing is on next.
I actually applaud the OP putting aside any bias and trying to view the whole Haymon enterprise objectively. I'll admit one of the reasons I dislike Haymon because of his strong association with that piece of sh*t Mayweather, and I often wonder if all my criticisms of Haymon spring from this.
However, I do also feel there are plenty of reasons to objectively not trust Al Haymon with running the sport of boxing (and that's before we even get to his shady refusal to outline his plans or tell us his vision).
Reasons not to trust Haymon with the future of boxing:
- He left HBO in a dire state.
- He left Golden Boy in a dire state.
- He is leaving Showtime in a dire state.
He has also created a culture of getting his fighters easy fights for huge money, hence why all the other fighters are gravitating towards him. That's how he lures everyone in.
So when these same fighters are presented with a difficult fight, they want astronomical sums, because they are viewing things on a risk-to-reward scale.
This paradigm is warping the running of the sport. Fighters like Adonis and Santa Cruz are getting soft and losing their competitive edge, and it's creating a bad vibe with fans. Is this the philosophy you want underpinning the sport? Big paydays for easy fights? Like I said, it means everyone wants to sign to him, but it also creates a terrible system.
I swear, if Arum was blocking as many fights as Haymon was - Adonis vs Kovalev/Pascal, Santa Cruz vs Rigo, Quillin vs Korobov, Wilder vs Fury - then the usual suspects would be going crazy. I mean, you pretty much know that if someone is a Haymon fighter, then it's basically very difficult to get them in a tough fight, unless it's an in-house statement fight, like when Haymon's fighters first moved to Showtime and now they're going to NBC.
Al Haymon is not to be trusted.
Why do you need to be told what he is doing and why do you label it shady?
HBO stopped doing business with Al, he didn't leave them. He isn't leaving showtime in a dire state, he just gave them wilder/stivernne which got great ratings. yes he screwed over ODH.
Yes some of his fighters are given very easy fights, as are fighters with all promoters. He does need to step up the comp level for LSC and Stevenson, no question. The cards he has had an announced so far this year all are better fights.
I think you are passing judgment far to quick. at least you were honest about what could be causing your bias.
Lou DiBella is trippin, Kathy Duva needs to stop exploiting Kovalev she doin' an Arum on my dude, Al Haymon and Bob Arum are both dividing the sport, I'm a Arum homeboy but I like what Haymon is doing over at NBC
What do they have planned for 2015? I can't wait!
There should be a documentary on all of them, in fact they should have a mini tournament.
Just make the fights everyone wants to see and stop coddling champions, whoever does that is good in my book. Whoever does the opposite is a cunt.
That's my view also. I have no personal feelings towards either one. I only care about the fights.
People in here need stop bringing up Bob Arum the man has help made fights like Hagler vs Leonard, Chavez vs De La Hoya, Holyfield vs Foreman, Foreman vs Moorer, Leonard vs Hearns, Hagler vs Hearns, Ali vs Frazier II and both Ali vs Spinks fights , Al Haymon is not on his lever but he can be if he does the right things in the next 10 years
Al Haymon is not a promoter so you can't really compare the two. Don King promoted a lot big fights too but that's totally irrelevant to what's going on in 2015. It's the same thing with Arum.
whats the difference between Haymon getting NBC dates and Main Events? when main events got the dates on NBCSports, people were happy that more fights were on TV.
It's very hard to think those who now are complaining are doing so just because of Haymon's 2014. Duva hadn't made any major fights of substance in 5 years prior to getting the NBCsports deal and no one said anything about it.
I wish posters would be more honest about what their real problem is.
Was it the old or new regime that paid Ward 2m to fight a journeymen?
Haymon used them to get where he is now.
New regime, but looks like they're resisting another one of those expensive tuneups. But Ward is not Berto or Broner.
Exactly. Wonder who he's gonna use next. Good luck making advertising dollars on NBC Sports and BET while having 200 fighters on contract.
