This is what I thought PBC would be aiming at from the start, but it took so long that I forgot about it. Personally I'm happy for them to give it a go, it can't be much worse than the current state of things
Maybe not a good idea to give him so much for Peterson imagine how much $ him and Keith are gonna ask to fight each other
I guess we'll see how committed Haymon really is to the free TV project when it comes time to negotiate Thurman vs Spence, because I'm guessing they will demand PPV type money
I enjoyed it and have big respect for Trout but the result felt too inevitable for it to be a great fight. Even Adam Smith called that Trout wouldn't last
Well if his chin is the issue he woulda never been ready to go to the next level no matter how many fights he'd had.
I just don't think we saw enough to make the decision that he wasn't ready. Jack was much more experienced and had fought better competition than Lubin when he got KO'd by Edwards, who isnt a better fighter than Charlo. These things happen
Maybe if he'd had a few tougher fights prior to last night then he'd have already been chin checked in less devastating fashion and worked on some ways to compensate for it
WBA have said the Supers gone from the division, Bivols the full champion
Didn't hear about that. I guess Barrera books a place in the Cuban Businessman Hall of Fame. Could still be Bivol's first mandatory though
Apart from the ones already mentioned, any combination of Kovalev, Beterbiev, Gvozdyk and Bivol would be fantastic
Also, from a British POV, Frampton vs Selby, Groves vs Eubank, Groves or Eubank vs DeGale and how about a prospect fight between Dubois and Gorman
There isn't too much to go on for Brant but it looks like he might have decent feet and that gives him a strong chance against Braehmer and Smith for me
I wonder how Barrera feels right now. He turned down 300-350K (?) for Kovalev because he wanted to fight for a title, and now a fighter he knocked out is getting a nice payday and a title shot.
He still has a good chance of fighting for the vacant WBA and if he wins that then he'll undoubtedly get a bigger purse to face Kovalev in what would then become a unification bout. But his likely opponent is Bivol, I guess, which is a big ask
Wilder's jab and the one-two that dropped Stiverne the first time were anything but telegraphed. His trademark windmill attack is technically awful but his straight work is pretty nice
There's a young Pinoy power-puncher named Mark Magsayo in Santa Cruz's division. He's no Pacquiao but that could potentially be a fun fight down the line. Looks more likely that he'll target Oscar Valdez's belt though
He's had nine world title fights, only one less than Crawford. I can't believe people sh*t on him for skipping the boring can crushing phase and going straight to world level
Arlen was hugg to death by Amankul which make the fight very hard to score. Khyzhniak style is not like that would have been a great fight to see
Yeah I still think Arlen is the best middleweight, but he has just lost form since Rio. He got thoroughly beaten by Madrimov and had two close fights with Vivas in the WSB, and just generally seems to be lacking timing. Khyzhniak at the moment is just undeniable. Gold in the u22 Euros, gold in the senior Euros and now gold in the Worlds. Not the most skilled guy ever but just a beast
Thet actually do release the PPV numbers. You think official PPV mumbers come from industry insiders?
HBO and Showtime have released PPV numbers many times.
And I said just shy of 1 million for Maidana.
I believe HBO stopped officially releasing PPV numbers after Canelo vs Khan, presumably because it flopped. Since then you have to rely on the word of promoters and "insiders"
Lazaro Alvarez deserved the decision over Oumiha too. And if Larduet was competing he would have had a great chance of winning gold at super heavy. Plus Robeisy was absent. Cuba is such a strong team
Edit: Oh and Arlen got robbed in the quarter-finals. Although he still didn't look great and probably wouldn't have beaten Khyzhniak, who has been a man on a mission this year
Great news. I hope they also have the cruisers. I'm assuming Eubank vs Groves and the final if it involves a Brit will assuredly be PPV, but hopefully the rest is ITV4
Nice. I use ********* for this at the moment and when they went down for a couple of days earlier in the year I couldn't find anywhere else that was kept up to date
Awesome!!! Great idea.
Suggestion;
Perhaps a fifth column could be added with Boxing Scene's rankings. Perhaps a panel of writers and editors could compile their unbiased rankings and that could be averaged out.
If there's going to be another column it should feature The Ring Magazine's rankings, since they actually provide a physical belt to champions
This fight may end sooner than everyone expects because Takam will be coming forward playing into Joshua's strengths. I give it 4 rounds.
Yeah I think it will be short and sweet, with Takam landing a few of his own but not being able to hurt Joshua. The Pulev fight would have been a better test of Joshua's skills, particularly on the outside
