If you watch Enter the Dragon (his most famous film) he fights the character O'Hara (who raped his sister in the film----> seen in flashback) played by actor Bob Wall. In that scene is a famous shuffling side-kick delivered by Lee. Wall wanted this to look real and asked Bruce to deliver the kick as if he would in a real fight......Bruce agreed.
Well if you watch the film you can see the force of the kick in slow-motion. The kick Broke Bob Wall's sternum and the force was such an extra who was behind him and caught him also broke his arm. This is backed up by Wall's account.
- The Shaolin guy that Bruce fought, most accounts say he nearly lost that fight......that's when he began getting fanatical with his training.
- They also say he was very strong for his size. Would do bicep curls with 30kg+ weights......more than half his total body weight....also everyone who trained with him said he had incredible punching power.
- Pro bodybuilders like Arnold also used to admire the symmetry of his body, the muscularity and especially the lats.
Guy was the real deal.
The kick at 2:28 broke Wall's sternum and broke one of those extra's arms. Incidentally Wall actually cut Bruce with the broken bottles.
So Wall let Bruce kick him as hard as he could and he broke his sternum? So what?
What does that prove? There are many practising martial artists who could have done the same.
The only thing that would really prove Lee was a great fighter would be an official fight record, and unfortuanatly, there isnt one. Only hearsay.
Great pioneer of MMA, but we dont know how good he really was.
To the average person, boxing is a barbaric sport where two uncivilised men try to render each other bloody and unconscious. People associate boxing with violence, long term brain damage and even death.
The way Pacquiao fights reinforced this ugly stereotype. He is a crude brawler looking to destroy and hunt down his opponents like prey. All people see is blood and violence. As a result this turns away many casual and potential fans from the wonderful sport of boxing.
Mayweather is an exception. He has shown that boxing can be beautiful. The subtle feints, accurate movements and the grace of a ballet dancer, his athleticism takes the sport to a whole new level.
Potential fans to the sport appreciate his skill levels and how he is able to outsmart his rivals. Mayweather can bring in many new fans to boxing - he is the face of out sport and we need him now more than ever to keep boxing alive.
When i was a teenager and wanted to get friends interested in boxing they showmen like Prince Naseem, KO fighters like Tyson, they found Ali boring, and didnt appreciate slick boxers at all.
There is no drama with Floyd. Non-boxing fans dont understand what they are looking at when the see Floyd box.
I know someone who thought Baldomir was easily beating Floyd.
People want action.
This is obvious.......Mayweather is the PPV king and has sold more PPV's than Manny vs common opponents....
Floyd is sooooo boring and he runs sooooo much that more people buy his PPV's than the exciting Manny Pacquiao
I believe non-boxing people tune in to watch Floyd over Pac because Floyd is a brash, gobby American who is the closest thing we have to an Ali or Sugar Ray Leonard.
Some want to see if his opponent will offer a decent challenge, or maybe even beat him.
Whereas Pac is a pure fighter. If ur not a fight fan, why would u buy a PPV?
If he talked trash and had an appeal outside of being a just great fighter, he would get more PPV's.
Not sure if Biggs even won that round. He hardly landed his jab and got caught with some big shots at the end.
But yea, Ali handles Tyson with ease IMO.
BUT, Holmes was jabbing and moving in the last round of his fight with Tyson before getting KTFO.
So u never know.
Ali's ATG chin get thwacked by that 190 lb English-Jew and got smoked by Smoking Joe. If Tyson landed that it would've been lights out. Frazier was a non-stop puncher but he was slow and ineffective. Joe can only punch with 1 hand which had true power. Tyson punches with both with more potency.
Ali's prime was after the lull for sure. All of his biggest wins came after. How can people argue Ali's prime was before? It's inconceivable.
Ali did get put down by Cooper, but was messing around trying to prolong the fight so he could fulfil his prediction of stopping Cooper in his chosen round.
But then Ali also took punches from Frazier, Foreman, Shavers etc. He had one hell of a chin, and i doubt many fighters could have taken so many of fraziers clean lefts without getting KO'd. For Ali to only go down in the last round, and still get straight back up was remarkable.
Dont forget Tyson got KTFO by Douglas, and old Holyfield.
Ali's biggest wins came after his lay off, but thats got nothing to do with when his prime was. He was obviously physically faster before, and if it wasnt for his lay off, i dont believe Frazier would have beaten him, and therefore Frazier and foreman would have never of been champion, and Ali's wins over them wouldnt have been such a great achievement. It was because Ali was getting older and slower that his win over Foreman was so impressive.
I do think Tyson was better than Frazier in many ways, but the reason Frazier gave Ali so much trouble was because he took so much and became stronger in the 2nd half of their 1st fight. I dont think Tyson could have taken that much, and was only really dangerous in the 1st half of his fights.
Tyson only had a punchers chance against Ali imo.
the thing with this fight is Tyson is actually faster than Ali.
Ali has problems with people that match him in speed. Frazier, Norton, Young all did that.
Ali eats slow punchers for breakfast. Foreman, Liston etc.
Tyson in his prime was faster than Ali in foot speed(pursuing speed has an advantage over back-peddling speed), movement and handspeed. Tyson also packed that KO punch Ali didn't.
People say Tyson is a mental midget. He's gone 12 rounds before and it wasn't until he completely lost his hunger for fighting that he began being broken. When driven he can over-come affliction. People love to hate on Tyson because it is the cool thing to do.
The fact is Joe Frazier beat Ali in his prime. Tyson is bigger, faster and stronger than Frazier.
Im not sure who was really faster. But Frazier, norton and Young didnt face a prime Ali, and didnt fight like Tyson.
I think Tyson gets tied up on the inside by Ali, and with Ali throwing for 15 rounds, Tyson would start fast, but slow down and get frustrated. Maybe he could land a KO punch, but Ali has an ATG chin, and tyson didnt KO everyone in his prime.
Frazier was a non-stop puncher, Tyson exploded here and there. But didnt have the will of Frazier, and wasnt a 15 round fighter who got stronger and more determined as the fight wore on.
Close, but SSM is still a big enough threat. Although PBF vs JMM was much more of a potentially interesting style match up.
Pac vs SSM is just another big hittable opponent for Pac to beat up, who may get lucky with a big punch.
Shot fighters dont put in that kind of great 12 round performance Morales did. That was his swan song.
A shot Morales was the 3rd Pac fight.
I dont see Floyd ever fighting like Morales in terms of aggression and punch out put. Floyd likes distance, and Morales at times was chasing Pac across the ring and throwing multi-punch combos.
If Haye never fights a Klitchko, no one will remember him. He wont even be a 'what if...' fighter.
Its a shame he has the British media eating out of his hand. He keeps appearing on chatshows promoting himself. For what? So he can retire in a few months.
Who would've ever thought that fighting Sugar Shane would one day be called a cherrypicked fight?
This is just a brief discussion that I had with some of San Francisco P.D on boxing this am....(I work for the Govt.)
A buddy of mine was wearing a grey MP pullover hoodie (who is Samoan)...and the cops remarked "nice sweater.....what you guys think about him fighting Mosley?"
4 cops...2 black, 1 latino and 1 white....the 2 black cops and the white cop said Mosley still has a punchers chance and is very live....the latino cop flat out said "Pinche' cherrypicking mutherf%&".
Then the other three started busting his ass about why? Cuz he beat up all the latino fighters??? i just sat back and watched our taxpayer dollars at work...
SSM may land a big punch, and may last the distance, but will most likely get beat up like Margrito did.
Id say to an extent it is cherry picking when Pac could have faced JMM, who was coming off a brilliant win, and who gave Pac real trouble in 2 fights, or Berto who is young, fast and undefeated.
But Pac picking SSM isnt that bad of a fight. Id prefer Pac to face a real boxer who can move and make Pac think, or a great counter puncher like JMM.
We all know Pac can beat iup bigger men who try to KO him.
no idea, but if you get the cheapest tickets, you may aswell be an alien in space, because you will be that far away from the ring!
I sat near thr front row for Pac-Hatton, but the seats right at the back had a great view.
The MGM is suprisingly small when you go inside. You have a perfect view at the back.
froch has one loss, and that was a robbery, mikkell kessler.
Like the dirrell fight, no one can show me where kessler landed clean shots. not one person.
They are lucky th youtube vids havnt been uploaded yet.
Froch schooled dirrell and beat kessler...the anti froch brigade continues.
Both fights were very close if ur not biased.
He certainly didnt school Dirrell.
I thought Froch won against Kessler, but it could of gone either way.
The score cards are bullshit.
i had Froch winning by a point.
I thought he won the last round.
Kesslers attacks often looked good but he missed most of his punches. Froch boxed well early on, and was landing his jab,
Froch would stop Calzaghe I think.
I dont think Froch would hit him much. Joe's reflexes were very fast. Plus i think Joe could take a few shots.
Froch is too slow and messy.
Floyd won a SD against (lets face it) a past his prime DLH. I hear flomos say floyd is gonna dominate and floyd is gonna KO mosley... that's some ole bullshit. Thing is, Mosley has always been a better athlete than dlh and mosley is in better shape than DLH was when DLH fought floyd.
I don't see floyd dominating or KOing mosley. its gonna be a SD either way.
People are gonna say DLH has a jab. Well, like Nazim say, you can't say mosley gotta do this or that because mosley brings his own problems to the table. mosley don't have to fight like dlh. And mosley at his best is enough to beat floyd. but mosley at his worst would lose to floyd, just like a floyd with 2 broken hands and a messed up shoulder would lose to mosley.
some of you mofos need to get your head out your asses
U contradict urself with the bolded.
If Mosely brings his own style then what does it have to do with Oscar?
The jab was significant because it was Oscars only effective weapon. SMM doesnt have much of a jab.
Plus Oscar vs Floyd wasnt close.
Edwin Valero deserves to die, It really is that simple. If you kill another person then you to should die. What if someone killed your mother? Wouldn't you like to see the one who did it die?
Has it been proven without doubt that he killed his wife?
If not than people calling for his death is absurd. It doesnt make sense to me that we can punish people who commit murder by murdering them. It also isnt a punishment.
No one can say how they would deal with the murder of their mother. To even contemplate how we would react in that circumstance is unimaginable. Even if u sought out vengeance it wouldnt equate justice.
He was already falling threw the ropes when he jumped a little, instinctively, to stop his feet getting tangled up in the ropes.
He was doing well in the fight, and had no reasons to pretend to be hurt.
He didnt jump through the ropes because he got hit a couple of times.
comments?violent reactions?questions?suggestions?
this is the best thing i heard from floyd jr's mouth.
and he has proven it so far.i think.
If youre rich and you brag about how rich you are, its still bragging.
Once again Floyd opens his mouth and lets us know how dumb he is.
everybody knows who Amir Khan is
Hes slowly becoming boxing next superstar, he'll beat paulie on saturday
Amir khan will become boxing next big thing in about 2years
Theres a difference between being known and actually being popular.
Everyone knows who he is because he won Olympic silver, and his first few fights were on terrestrial televison.
His popularity doesnt compare to Hamed or Hattons. I doubt that many brits are going to NY to watch him fight.
There are also a large number of british people who dont like him. Thats why they booed him when he fought Barrera and at the Hatton-Pac weigh-in.
These same Pac fans clowned Floyd for retiring in his prime and now Pac gets a pass from them because he had over 50 fights. Get the fukk outta here.
When Floyd retired he allegedly ducked every fighter known to man.
The only real big fight left is Floyd. Yet with Floyd, he called himself the greatest and hadnt fought many names that we had wanted him to face for a few years.
Its not exactly the same situation.
Its a shame every Pac or Floyd thread turns into a comparison.
If Ali really became the greatest by beating people he wasnt expected to, Floyd needs to face someone who would be an overwhelming favourite to beat him.
This will be true of every Khan fight since his KO.
To establish himself as a true world champion he needs to win all his fights impressivly. And step up in quality.
I think the fight could be very interesting on sat. Paulie is a experienced veteran who has fast hands and isnt that easy to hit.
To me Khan still seems a bit amatuerish, and not very confident. I think Paulie could een hurt him.
