To the average person, boxing is a barbaric sport where two uncivilised men try to render each other bloody and unconscious. People associate boxing with violence, long term brain damage and even death.
The way Pacquiao fights reinforced this ugly stereotype. He is a crude brawler looking to destroy and hunt down his opponents like prey. All people see is blood and violence. As a result this turns away many casual and potential fans from the wonderful sport of boxing.
Mayweather is an exception. He has shown that boxing can be beautiful. The subtle feints, accurate movements and the grace of a ballet dancer, his athleticism takes the sport to a whole new level.
Potential fans to the sport appreciate his skill levels and how he is able to outsmart his rivals. Mayweather can bring in many new fans to boxing - he is the face of out sport and we need him now more than ever to keep boxing alive.

I did and it was garbage.
Pac's style is exciting while Floyd's isn't. Fans prefer watching Pac's style because it is entertaining. Floyd's style is boring to watch, yes he is a great fighter but not an exciting one.
If you are really that delusional to think his style will bring people into the sport then I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.
This is obvious.......Mayweather is the PPV king and has sold more PPV's than Manny vs common opponents....
Floyd is sooooo boring and he runs sooooo much that more people buy his PPV's than the exciting Manny Pacquiao
people pay because he promotes his fights like no other and they want to see him lose
so more people buy floyd's fights to see him lose than people paying to see manny win-lol
oh the irony---floyd is the biggest star in boxing, not manny---and it's still obvious and proven---floyd just outsold manny's highest grossing ppv bout when he fought shane---manny hasn't topped 1.4 million ppv buys, let alone coming close to 2.4 million ppv buys, and he will never come close until he fights floyd, the draw---not manny--
as far as their styles go, it's all about preference--manny is action packed--floyd is technically superior---manny's style is more fan friendly, no doubt about it--but you nevrr know with floyd because he'll land a punch that turns the place out--and he has done so---with this being noted, there's no way manny will ever come close to beating a floyd mayweather jr--no way possible--but he's an exciting fighter--no doubt about it--
Floyd had me guessing when he was going to KO Marquez.
I mean, he came in the weigh in the bigger guy, fight night, was taller, heavier, faster, stronger. Dropped him once,
but never KOed him... lol
so more people buy floyd's fights to see him lose than people paying to see manny win-lol

I disagree. Mostly when I tell people I only watch boxing they say, yeah I like UFC some and I don't like boxing because they just dance around each other. Obviously that is not true even with fighters like Mayweather who are slick boxers. I like to watch Mayweather fight because I love boxing and he is a great fighter, but they are called fights and when you think of a fight you think of 2 guys wailing on each other. Everyone has different opinois but I think as far as fans as a whole go Mayweathers style is not as fan friendly as someone like Pacquiao.
Guessing? Guessing when hes gonna put together some actual fuking offense!
Seriously you can call boxing the sweet science and dress it up all you want but it is still a bloodsport. People don't tune into NFL games to watch 3 yard gains and jump up and down on their feet going nuts because the defense made a routine stop. They cheer for big hits and touchdowns and thats hardcore and casual football fans alike. It's no diffrent in boxing! People want action, they want drama, they don't want an hour of two guys fainting at each other and throwing 16 non threatening punches a round.
And here is my proof! Every fighter that you can compare to Floyd jr and has a similar style is a non draw the diffrence here is Floyds mouth the end.
Another ignorant view which reinforces the sterotype that boxing fans are uneducated.
I think we can agree that Pacquiao's style, although agressive, is very limited and has no lasting appeal.
Mayweather is able to adapt and change his style and keep audiences guessing.

Floyd is a smart fighter and I think his skills are second to none,
Manny fights like a maniac and sometimes i want to see blood and guts to.
So I watch Both.
Yep exactly. This guy must be delusional. Pac brings so much excitement into the ring that's why casual fans watch him and can't get enough of him. Most people watch Floyd because they wanna see him get his azz kicked. Most of his fights are boring technical fights especially last few years.
The PPV numbers of common opponents don't lie.
It's about educating the masses on the beautiful sport of boxing.

This is one of the gayest things I've read on NSB.
daggum is being sarcastic.
calzaghe's tko of manfredo (like a lot in his career) was an early , unwarranted stoppage.
calzaghe was hitting pretty much gloves with an occassional clean shot.
I got suckered? Good one daggum!:hail:
Mayweather has been tough to watch ever since his first fight with Castillo. I could be wrong but ever since then he took his defense into a whole different level. I can greatly appreciate his skills and athleticism but when I shell out $50 for his ppv, I'm paying to see him get beat. If the purpose of boxing is to hit your opponent and not get hit back then they should bring in the head gear. The purpose of boxing his to fight with your fists -- plain and simple. Of course defense is important but to sit back on the ropes and shoulder roll for half the fight is crap. Mayweather has the quickness to dodge punches, like he shows in the middle of the ring, but his wannabe version of the rope-a-dope is cheap. He's fighting people at the same weight as himself and at times he's even taller than his opponents.
