There are lots of talented fighters out there many way more talented and athletic than Mayweather or paq. But talent alone isn’t enough you need an inner strength to be a great fighter.
I boxed amateur for 5 years had 33 fights but the hardest I got hit was in sparring . I was in with a guy who I always could out box somewhat easily . I was on the ropes and slipping a couple of shots and he blasts me. I am pretty sure it t was a right hand.
I did not go down but I actually could not see for at least 5-6 seconds but it felt like forever .
My vision slowly came back in purple and yellow kind of staticky looking with a tunnel
vision kind of feeling.
I still felt ok. knew I had my hands up and was leaning on the ropes still and I could feel him close to me so I was able to grab him and hold till my eyes cleared.
Because of pride I tried to not let it show and definitely didn’t tell the other guy or the coach .
In my opinion it’s quite simple. Of course McGregor has more boxing experience than his record shows. He was an active combat athlete at the time quite capable of absorbing punishment.
Floyd never once in the fight cut the ring off on Connor. I know Floyd was doing this intentionally because his training is so good he would know what he is doing. Floyd always gave McGregor a path to move out of the way and get some breathing room.
I think he wanted the fight to last rounds.
I’ll admit I am a big wilder fan. It was tough to watch last night. Fury showed another level to his game. I don’t think there’s much shame in Deontay losing last night. No one ever thought he would stay undefeated forever.
I still think wilder knocks out AJ after Some struggles. But I also think Fury stops AJ and stays king of the division for a while.
Wilder vs anyone is always an entertaining fight you can’t count him out yet.
Breland made the right choice. I think the injury to his ear was a serious problem he didn’t have him legs under him after.
Mark Breland did the right thing. He allows wilder to say he wasn’t out yet and could have continued. I think it’s a perfect stoppage.
Fury was wining the fight but clearly getting hurt by shots in many rounds . Wilder may have been losing but he was defiantly dangerous the whole fight. That makes it a competitive fight .
I hope Wilder comes in this fight back again under 220. I don’t think he will beat Fury but you never know with his right hand.
if he is light like his usually weight I think he can maybe keep Fury off him and last the distance.
He has almost 70 pro fights . Been fighting world class opponents since he was 21 . He is not a fresh 33. But I think his style ages well a slow methodical counter puncher he doesn’t rely on quick feet or hands . Sets guys up and uses his anticipation of what’s going to happen instead of reaction time .
he is good at punching where you are gonna be instead of where you are .
Charlo is a damn good boxer with good power he has a chance but I think Canelo finds him like in the BJ Saunders fight .
I boxed at a gym in Canada that had pros while I was there one female was world champ. There were other pros there of the “ journey man “ caliber they still beat the **** out of me and made it look easy. Most seemed to have a personal training day job and would be in gym evenings to spar and train. A handful worked in the strip clubs downtown. But most trained pretty regularly and would be in pretty damn good shape.
any welterweight in the top 20 would beat that drained oscar,
danny garcia would of probably knocked him out cold and thats never been done to oscar.
even light welterweights would of beat that oscar, he was severely diminished. like severely. i just wish i put my savings on a pac t(ko).
if he ballooned up in weight to like 160, then the win would of been okay. but it seemed like everytime he threw he lost a pound. oscar could have died that night if he fought someone with heavy hands who knocked him out cold, he looked ill.
At the time Danny Garcia was probably 16 and definitely would not have ok’d oscar. I may be getting my timeline wrong but before he fought Oscar I thought Manny did not have many notable wins above 130 maybe David Diaz but it was a big step up in class against a much larger opponent. If Oscar had success early and faded then you can say manny won simply because of the weight cut. But Manny dominated from the beginning with superior speed and style. I’ll give you that the weight cut did not help Oscar but I am sure it was professionally handled in camp and he was not overly compromised by it.
Off course he was under dog, if betting had started after the weighin Manny would be favorite, people were expecting Oscar to be his usual 160 on fightnight not weighing lighter than Manny , think Oscar against Floyd was 16lbs heavier than the version against Manny, thats a huge difference.
Non of it was Mannys fault except for the CW which started the chain reaction, he originally wanted 145 and Oscar wasnt going below 150 and then they made the fight at 147 a weight Oscar had not made in over 10 yrs it was stupid as well as underestimating Manny, Oscar even when a LW was 147 fight night.
Oscar was the worst case of a drained fighter Ive ever seen in 50yrs following the sport, wasnt Mannys fault but you cant say it was a great win when you know the opponents was totally ruined.
Hindsight is always 20/20 Oscar had a game plan he came to win but was in over his head that night. I still believe if Manny was not a truly great fighter he would have been beaten by Oscar. Maybe it’s not the same De La Hoya who beat Vargas but he was still a world class boxer with a great left hook who was much taller and larger frame than his opponent.
It’s no easy feat what Manny did that night at no point was the fight close.
I think people also forget these guys are retired and at a big show he might have had a couple of drinks. I saw some ****ty cell phone interview of Tim Bradley and I though he seemed super punch drunk but then saw him in tv months later and he was fine.
When pac man was on his tear through De La Hoya and Cotto etc.. it’s a one in a lifetime kind of fighter I think. At his best similar to Roy Jones pac looked almost unbeatable.
I guess you dont understand Oscar was killed by the weight and Pac was heavier than him.
Fans dont ever look under the bonnet they just see the wheels spin.
Not destroying LWs and being KOed by LWs, then destroy bigger guys have got to have you ask why, its simple WEIGHT.
I remember all that but I also remember manny was still a huge underdog in that fight. He wasn’t that far removed from some shaky performances with morales there was not a lot of people picking Pacquiao at the time. Of course it was not a prime De La Hoya but he had given Floyd Mayweather a pretty good fight not that long before. I think it was a solid win for Manny.
Its been a year since last fight. They are in their early 20s in their physical prime and only slightly improved their stamina, they arent serious about boxing.
The only punches that hurt either of them were ones that landed behind the ear, they had zero punching power because they are so winded.
Any boxer with elite pro level experience bodies them due to poor stamina alone. There is no boxer with a name they could beat. Even someone like the 44 year old Anthony Mundine that Jeff Horn just stopped would body them, because he has the experience and stamina.
Lightweight prospect Garcia, who is world level mind you, would stop them at will in a real match with no holding back.
Have you ever boxed? How good did you look in your second fight? If you were expecting world class boxing from these guys it’s like going to McDonalds and asking for a medium rare prime rib.
HBO was the best. The GOAT. We truly miss HBO. We got alot of people who were trashing HBO. Wonder how they like DAZN and other trash we now have...
You don’t know what you got till it’s gone. I miss hbo so much.
It’s what Wilder said he wanted. He didn’t want the fight stopped. F*** him, he threw Breland under the bus and has behaved like a classless b!tch since he got schooled.
All fighters are supposed to have the same attitude as Wilder but it’s a corners job to make sure their career doesn’t end that night .
As a coach he did 100% the right thing. Saved Wilder from unnecessary
Damage and allows wilder to throw the blame on him.
Plus I have not seen one interview with Breland saying anything negative about wilder it’s a true display of “Class” .
Kownacki is even easier. If Kownacki was able to reach top 10 at some point, Joyce has a chance.
I never understood the Kownacki hype the guy fights like Homer Simpson.
I am a white guy and even I can see this guy was hyped cause he was white and American.
How not. He beats 3 Wilder`s championship wins and one Joshua`s.
As bad at boxing as Wilder is he still gets hit waaay less than Kownacki and packs a better punch.
I feel like I need to watch the fight again not at a bar ( and not 3/4 drunk). I thought fury should have won a close decision. But that being said I can understand the draw. Fury wasn’t super active in some rounds coupled with two 10/8 rounds for wilder I think a draw makes sense. I think there’s an argument that Fury did not do
Enough to
Take the title from the champ.
Despite the controversy I loved that fight I was on the edge of my seat for all 12 rounds. Both men really put on an inspirational performance. Wilder with his never die attitude willing to risk getting ko’d To win and Fury with the crazy recovery . I can’t wait to
See either man fight again.
Plus this is the first time in a long
Time people are talking about a boxing match on
Monday morning at work
When are people gonna stop with this BS saying. Only thing someone has to do is win more rounds then the champ. They dont have to go above and beyond because of some antiquated idea or belief.
No offense to you, I just hate that saying and idea that somehow it would even come to anyone's mind during a championship fight.
I think
It’s fair for close rounds to be favoured to the current champ. My 65 year old mom ( who hates boxing)watched the fight with me for my birthday even she thought a draw was fair in her words wilder hurt fury more times than fury hurt him.
Jermall Charlo beats Canelo right now.
Possibly GGG too. GGG is old and his reflex isn't what it used to be. He also does not fight a Korobov type defensive style.
I completely disagree.Canelo and GGG walk through him
Like soft butter. Charlo telegraphs his punches even the jab most of the time. I was impressed with Charlo making an adjustment to avoid getting tagged with the straight left so
Often, but there are levels to boxing and GGG and Canelo are at least two levels above Charlo.
I think he could give Jacobs a tough fight but I think Danny beats him as well.
