People hate him for some reason, but Thurman beat Danny Garcia and Porter, which are also Spence`s the best wins. I don`t remember Thurman ever being top 10 p4p? Crawford`s claim to fame is beating very shot version of Spence, that was in top 10 p4p for some reason by that time. Thurman`s only loss is against one of the best boxers in the last 20 years. No shame about that. He did crack top 10 P4P at one time. I do agree with you though. Even when it comes to scoring the judges seem to hate him. I didn't think the Garcia fight was close at all. Lots of people thought the Porter fight was closer than I thought as well. I'm still salty that he got scored a 10-8 round vs Josesito, can't think of ANY other fighter getting a 10-8 round like that. For anyone that scored it that way, explain to me how because I don't see it. He controlled over a minute and a half of the round and even started firing back and landing after getting wobbled and not having his legs for a good 30-45 seconds in the middle of the round.

Let me know when Bud fights a top 5 or top 10 welterweight. Keith has the resume and the numbers compared to Crawford.

I have not seen Danny Garcia hurt, staggered, stunned. Or I just missed some of his early fights. Thurman stunned him briefly in their fight but that's all I can recall. I think Spence's chin was suspect before the accident so I'm going with DG on this one though.

Depends on Keith's injuries. Pac only made it out with the win in the first fight by the skin of his teeth. The KD and 10th round body shot is what won him that fight. MD on the scorecards because Pac can't stay consistent throughout the whole fight at his advanced age. Non-injured Keith wins the rematch, but who the **** knows if that Keith even exists anymore.

Keith almost went down again from a body shot from Pacquiao, who isn't really known for his body punches. Spence will drag Keith. And Keith knows it. Then why won't Spence make the fight happen? Spence only wanted the Thurman fight when it could've helped him jump the line. A healthy Thurman beats Spence.

She's bigger than I like my women, but she's definitely a cute/beautiful woman. They've been together forever and she's the mother to his many children. You guys need to get out more. She's probably a good woman and they're happy.

His team will (rightfully) steer him in an alternate direction. Thurman at 154 I reckon, rebuild some confidence. Even this shopworn version of Keith beats Spence. Spence never had a chin, that's why he feasted on little guys moving up for so long.

Thurman at 154. Rebuild the confidence and collect a nice pay cheque. After that fight for a likely fragmented 154 lb title and then look at the Crawford rematch up at 154- however he loses to Bud at any weight, I don’t believe the fight plays out any differently. Thurman beats Spence. Even the broken Thurman of today.

If it's just for fun then wouldn't you spar until it's no longer fun? If you're asking for health reasons then zero sparring is the best sparring for you.

Porter is the fighter that separates the top fighters from the elite. If you beat Porter you're at an elite level. I thought Spence clearly beat Porter. I also think Thurman clearly beat Porter. Porter had his moments in both fights and won some rounds. Thurman and Spence came to fight and beat Porter, period. The KD even sealed the deal for Spence.

I am not very high, something like Canelo. My weight was about 150 when I was 13 years old. It was about 170 when I was 17-18. Now I am over 40, I am not fat and I am around 180. I would have to cut both legs of to make 154. I don`t understand how grown men, bigger than me, "make" weight around 147 -160. The smallest weight limit I could "make" would be a light heavy limit around 175. You are fat and out of shape. These men are in boxing shape and work to cut weight. Most of the guys at 147-154lbs walk around out of shape at 180lbs+

If you're purposefully bulking and putting on weight to get bigger, boxers don't do that.

Highschool doesn't really mean anything. If boxing doesn't work out you can just lie on future resumes/applications. Just say you got your HS diploma. If you really want to, go get a GED and a 2 year college degree if boxing doesn't work out. How do your parents feel about your choice?

Forget the forum on this topic, full of idiots. I think overall - he is rated about right, maybe marginally overrated. Let me explain... He will go down as a first ballot HOFer, for me he definitely is a HOFer but I think many people have him as one of the greatest middleweights of all time, I've heard it banded around quite a lot in boxing media and I dont agree with that, he simply did not prove. I think he was vastly overrated pre-Brook fight, but since that fight he has proved himself, he has proved he is elite but he also proved he is not a destroyer of good fighters. He doesnt overwhelm elite fighters, he competes with them, and generally ends up in close, either way fights. His skills and speed are B+ and B respectively, but his stamina, IQ, power, consistency are all up there. But at the end of the day you are a sum of what you accomplished, he had a lengthy reign, which didnt mean much, mostly C and D level fighters, he did show that he is consistent in that phase of his career. But ultimately he would be judged on his win over Jacob's, which was a very close fight, the two Canelo fights, for me both either way fights, maybe you'd lean his way in the first, and Derv which was also very close. Here is the thing, I think he had All Time Greatness in the palm of his hand in the second Canelo fight and let it go. I said this in the aftermath and whenever I discuss the fight. I think GGG has the ability to take Canelo into deep waters and drown him, but he chose to box and move (well), he just doesnt seem to have the mentality to go for it from Round 1 and let it all go. I strongly feel, in a war of attrition he would outlast Canelo and stop him late. In that second fight, he had a Canelo who was moving towards him and he himself decided to box, he let the moment slip. So overall - great fighter, he has proved that, even if you call those Canelo fights same as judges. Just not what he was cracked up to be before he stepped his competition up. If you matched him with all the belt holders over the past 25 years, he would win a lot more than he'd lose, but he would certainly lose some. If you matched him with a prime hopkins, I think hes a level below that. Another moment he missed was moving up to compete with Ward. Would've been a much better look to move up and lose against Ward than what ended up happening.

Did size really play a factor in that fight? It wasn't like Floyd was leaning on JMM or shoving him around the ring. You also can't say that JMM hit him but couldn't seem to hurt him...he could barely even land anything. You can tell the dudes that have never fought or been in the ring before when they think the only factor to size is being able to push guys around the ring. The size and length difference between the two fighters was apparent from the start.

I started boxing at 19 and fighting as an amateur at 20. I was aiming to box as a professional. I also would take a couple classes at the local college, sometimes only 1 a semester. A couple times I got to spar some high level pros. Some weren't completely discouraging, but some made me realize there's definitely levels to boxing and there are some levels I'm just not going to make it to. I got to within a year of getting a bachelors degree and decided my time was better spent there. The last time I was in the gym was at 24, and that was 8 years ago. It was definitely the better choice. I don't regret not boxing as a pro. Not at all. I just don't want to take those kind of beatings.

Have you tried finding and joining a trade union (plumbing, electrical) or some type of labor skill (HVAC, carpentry)? What about waste management for your area? Like, you really better be at the end of the line to be considering professional boxing. The only way I'd consider boxing at such a late age is if I had nothing but roofing jobs left or something. If that's the case, and this is the way you're going to try to feed and provide for yourself I have some suggestions, some of which will be dependent on your location and where or who you're training under. You said you're 140lbs, so this is probably going to be extra hard on you. Starting out boxing is all about getting a crowd. You will be expected to sell tickets. Find some type of niche character you can sell to the crowd. Find out who your local promoters are and try to build some type of personal relationship. If you can make these promoters money they won't care who you are fighting. Make sure you get matched up for easy touches AS LONG AS YOU CAN. You want to stay local, fighting the absolute worst fighters, just so you can get some experience and pad your record. But back to drawing a crowd and making your promoter money... you won't get this kind of option if you aren't making your promoter money. If you can't make your promoter money they'll use you to make some money. So get good at selling tickets (and I don't mean this figuratively, you will literally be expected to sell tickets). I could honestly go on and on, but you really need to take a BIG step back and think about exactly what you want here. If you want to be champion and the best and all that bull**** you literally have zero shot. Do not bother, you will be vastly outclassed when you near the top. If you need to make money and you actually think boxing is your best option then you need to look at it as a business. The most important thing in any business is SALES. Find yourself a drunk rowdy crowd that will back you, get them to your fights. Work with your local promoters to let them know, you can get asses in seats and they buy drinks and concessions at a higher rate than the normal crowd. Once again, if you're trying to be world champion and you're imagining being on top of the world don't bother. I used to want go pro, not be some title holder or anything, I just wanted to get some local fights, get a record, put in some work, spar some top level guys, all that. I started boxing at 18 and kept boxing until 24. Around 22 I started training out of st pete boxing where Keith Thurman trains. I got to spar Keith and it was something else. It wasn't that disheartening getting beat down by Keith. What was disheartening was getting beat down by some of his sparring partners feeling the vast gulf of difference. Way better options out there to make money rather than getting beaten up.

There's more to whos the smaller man than weight. Frame, height reach has alot more to do with it. I don't think Anthony Joshua was the smaller man than Andy Ruiz for instance. One just weighed more. The people that understand this you can tell have been in the ring. Weight is not the same as size. Floyd was OBVIOUSLY the bigger man in that fight, you can see the video evidence.

I had it 116-113 Wright. I need to watch it again but if I remember right he was signed to a British promoter at the time and this was the last fight on his deal with him and he didn’t re-up. So that’s why he got a raw deal in that fight because Simon was signed to the same guy and they wanted to put the belt on him. I thought it was closer than Vargas but I had him winning. Might go back and watch again. I had him beating Taylor as well. Close but a clear win I think. According to Dan Birmingham they won the fight but got called back out of the dressing room for some kind of discrepancy. Not sure if I didn't understand the story right but it was definitely shady.

Well now im 25 years old i have a bad history with smoking and alcohol and i started boxing for 5 months now, i train hard run 3 times a week i cut all my bad habits and i was wonder if I stick to the training and maybe turn pro at 29 is there a chance to have successful career and maybe be champ, knowing im ready to risk everything for it? I'm not going to bull**** you. You have pretty much no chance. Could you work in the boxing industry and make a living? Maybe. Could you make a living as just a fighter? Probably not. Could you become champion? Like WBA/WBC/WBO/IBF Champion? Not unless you have a connected team already backing you. Even then, it's going to depend on your weight class and a lot of luck for you to get lined up to fight a weak champion. You're starting to box at 25 years old. These top guys have never done anything BUT boxing. History is sparsely littered with champs that didn't come from that background, but they're rare. Most of those fighters got lucky, either with their timing or with meeting the right people. There are tons of champions that weren't really that great. If you're an okay professional boxer you can probably earn if you play your cards right. If you can beat your local challengers you can probably pump up a record fighting locally and try to time yourself to get a bigger money fight. You really shouldn't be trying to box at your age unless you've got nothing else left. Also, if you're 25 now you want to get into the pro ranks faster. Waiting until you're 29 to start fighting as a pro is really late.

I fella I know did it. Sean “Masher” Dodd. He came to a gym I used to train at Ventura ABC in his mid 20’s after a history with drugs, mixing with the wrong crowd etc. It completely turned his life around, he turned pro in his late 20’s and went on to win the commonwealth title. So yeah it can be done... it’s not easy though. Not a real title.

Boxer has a purse of 1 million USD. How much does he take home? Tax, trainer, manager, cornerman etc... I've heard trainers generally take 10%. I've also heard managers take 10%. So immediately you're at $800k. A smart fighter will find a way to deduct some costs, probably northward of $100k in deductions between healthcare expenses and other business expenses. They'll probably eat taxes on $600k of that $800k. Depending on the state that can be from $185k-$250k. Let's just say a cool $200k to make the math super easy. Off of a $1M payday you're probably walking away with somewhere around $600k. If you're an idiot you're paying taxes on the full $800k-$1M and walking away with < $500k.

why wait? fighters need to start unifying and make all the traffic go through them...why hold the belt hostage? F^ck waiting....if you want to rebuild this year give the belt up and when u come back u can fight whoever has it when you get back... Why would he give up his WBA and WBC belt to not face the IBF champion and instead face either the WBA or WBC mandatory challenger? That doesn't even make sense. If he's facing the mandatory he wouldn't drop the belt, he'd get to keep it.

Crawford is anyones guess due to Uncle Bob/Haymon politics, but there is zero reason why Thurman vs Spence shouldnt happen this year. Zero. They are with the same gottdamn promoter Thurman is still not back from an injury. There's no reason that pushing it back should be an issue for Thurman, he's so far got the best names on his resume and has been fighting injuries the past couple of years.

That Porter fight showed Thurman cannot take the heat. Porter is nowhere near SPence JR and he got on the inside and roughed Thurman up. IT was a close fight. Porter is smaller, slower, and literally worse then Spence Jr win every single aspect. SPence Jr will make easy work of Thurman It wasn't that close. I think Porter landed like 1 good shot the whole fight. Being aggressive and rushing into punches shouldn't make the fight close.

Thurman has beaten Garcia and Porter. Porter and Garcia are not A level fighters. Crawford and Spence I believe are A level fighters. That's why I think people don't respect him more than Crawford or Spence. That doesn't make any sense since Crawford nor Spence have fought A level competition either.
