In all seriousness, can the thurman fans out there tell me why keith is willing to fight porter who he already beat and garcia who he already beat BEFORE he fights spence? Please dont say its because they are his mandatories.. Unification bouts trump mandatories and money trumps all.
Are thurman fans really interested in seeing him fight porter or garcia again??
We all know Errol is not anywhere near keiths radar, so lets say he doesnt fight porter or garcia, who would you want to see him fight in the ww division if it isnt against spence, porter, or garcia? Crawford is also not realistic because of fkn arum. Whats left for him at ww if he isnt willing to fight spence?
i have no problem at all with him taking a tune up fight. none what so ever. i def dont want to see him fight porter or garcia again thats for sure!!
if you guys tell me its all about money thats fine. As much as i hate that it seems to be the norm. I just think he would make soooo much more money if he fights and beats spence now. he would be one of the biggest attractions in boxing.
The problem is that he himself dont think he can beat errol!
Furthermore.... I think amongst casual observers,.. Thurman-Garcia was a letdown.. particularly in the 11th-12th round.
But for us who follow boxing a lot more,... we saw the fight as a whole as a tough technical fight.
But casual viewers were probably pissed at the end. lol.
...again. you can't build the fight if Thurman doesn't get his PR game together.
Thurman / Garcia was a let down to EVERYONE . Not just casuals . At times it looked like a glorified sparring session . If we're gonna be forced to see a Thurman rematch I prefer Porter who actually tried to take the fight to Thurman .
Used to like Thurman until he started to run in the Garcia fight, lost a bit of cred with that performance.
It's obvious that's hes a "bidnizz man" now hence the not fighting Spence part.
Thurman fan here but also a Spence fan. I want this fight to happen and Thurman does seem to be ducking.
I can't quite call him a ducker yet though. Spence hadn't earned this fight until after he beat Brook and Thurman has fought since. Fight needs to happen in 2019 at some point.
I wouod love to see Thurman vs Porter again. That was a really close fight that could of went either way and Porter deserves the rematch.
I don't want to see Garcia Thurman again. That fight sucked. Danny can say Thurman ran at the end but that's because he handled him. Garcia isn't on his level.
thanks for sharing your feelings on thurman.. after much thought, i dont blame keith for not fighting errol in 2018.. errol just still isnt a huge name yet although its getting there..
what i dont want is to see is keith lose to someone leading up to the fight and if he fights porter again its not impossible for porter to win. he can very well win the rematch which would suck because i wanna see spence thurman a lot more than i want to see spence porter.
i know errol will wind up fighting all the big names at 147 eventually especially when he unifies.
being a thurman fan would u watch a rematch vs porter or garcia? whats your take on that if he does rematch them?

Thanks, man. Actually I think I may have picked up on some of that info in your previous posts - I seem to remember it being mentioned that you were in fact a troika - but it's always good to have informed opinion on board, even if I'll not pretend I always agree with your sentiment or conclusions. But, ummm... damn, man, what's the etiquette for addressing one member of a triumvirate? And how do we know which one of you we're talking to...
life would be no fun if everyone agreed. always happy to civilly discuss any disagreements you have in the future. the media and broadcasters do a terrible job of explaining to fans how the sport really works, why fights get made, etc. the entire set up of boxing is ridiculous, so it's understandable why fans are often confused or aggravated by which fights get made when.
tried to be honest about this account being a team effort, but so many people would get irrationally upset when we typed "we" that at this point it's probably easier to just pretend we are one person from now on.
i agree with you on there being only 1 champion per wt class, but i respectfully disagree about not fighting dwellers when your at the top.. if these champions fight war after war after war, they will without question have a shorter career. i have no problem with a champion fighting a top 10 guy every now and then especially if there was only 1 champ per division. I think their prime would last a lot longer. Just my opinion though.
isnt that exactly what thurman is doing right now? making all the traffic go through him? ughh i cant believe this lol errol is my fav fighter since tyson and here i am sticking up for thurman who i absolutely hate lol
with all due respect, how do you build momentum fast with casuals? the guy has a point.. casual fans dont even know who spence is. like i said in another post, only around 600k people tuned in to see errols fight vs lamont. Thurman vs Spence deserves to be a HUGEEEE event!! They are both GREAT undefeated world champions in what most people say is the most exciting division. The deserve to make as much money as they possibly can so if that means waiting a year than so be it.. they are both young and are both in their prime. Lets just enjoy the build up to it.
I was more of a Thurman fan before he took Spence off the table, no matter what, for 2018. And I can't love a guy who only fights every year and a half. He doesn't fight often enough.
Cool guy and a fairly exciting fighter, though.
Do I want to see him rematch Porter? No. What about Swift? Hell no. Absolute waste of time.
In terms of the tentative plan for Thurman vs. Spence, yes I am speaking with a degree of behind the scenes knowledge.
Yes I have a professional connection to the sport. I've worked in the fight game most of my life. This account is actually operated by three previous boxingscene posters. One of us has ties to the WBC, one to the WBA and one to the IBF, hence our screen name. In all of our posts we used to write "we" instead of "I," but for some reason that seemed to bother a lot of people here, so I've gotten in the habit of just speaking in the first person now even though there are three of us that use this account.
I don't currently work for a sanctioning body or promoter, although I've worked for several promoters over the years, some of which work for Haymon these days. I used to work for Showtime, which is why I try to offer some insight into how they operate.

Are you speaking with any degree of insider knowledge here?... The tone of your post is fairly authoritative.. as, in fact I've noticed is often the case with your posts - I'm curious whether you have any professional connection to the sport, maybe to a promotion or governing body or is this simply affectation and informed speculation?

Not a Thurman fan, but happy to explain the business realities of the situation.
Porter is his mandatory, not Garcia. Garcia might be the mandatory next year, but that would put Garcia in position to fight the Thurman/Spence winner. The Garcia rematch wouldn't be before Spence.
As for Porter before Spence, it doesn't make sense for Thurman or Spence to fight each other before the public has more time to familiarize themselves with Spence and the fight has more time to be built up.
PBC plans to have Thurman and Spence unify in March 2019 on CBS if both are still undefeated. To avoid the winner immediately being stripped, they're trying to clear up some of the mandatories first while also giving the fight more time to build.
We are hardcore fans. We want Thurman vs. Spence now, but it takes more time for the average fan to become aware of fighters and potential fights. One of the most effective ways to market a fight is to cause the hardcore fans to ***** and moan. That *****ing and moaning raises awareness among casuals that it's a fight they should want to watch.
If you delivered every fight the second hardcore fans wanted it, you'd never have any big fights because hardcore fans are always going to want fights before they have a chance to become big.
see!! im totally cool with this.. thx for posting.. lets just hope they stay undefeated until march 19
canelo was scared of ggg
floyd was scared of pacquiao
ward was scared of kovalev
loma was scared of rigo
its like mofos dont learn nothing from the past. these fighters not scared of sht but just because a fight doesnt happen on your schedule doesnt mean anybody is scared.
thurman faced porter and garcia back to back. that sht is impressive regardless what a hater says. those were two grueling fights. out of those two I say only porter is rematch worthy I think he clearly beat danny. not by a landlside but clear.
we dont know what goes on behind close doors in fighter meetings maybe all this sht is theatrics designed to sell the fight to a wider market. all this scared/duck talk is building the fight.
Why would he give up his WBA and WBC belt to not face the IBF champion and instead face either the WBA or WBC mandatory challenger?
That doesn't even make sense. If he's facing the mandatory he wouldn't drop the belt, he'd get to keep it.
i just like the idea of one champion like in most major sports... only 1 king of the hill... I like to watch the best vs the best and once u get to the mountaintop no need to fight valley dwellers... your job is to defend the mountaintop from the up and coming challengers.....Thurman spoke a big game and now he is going against a lot of what he said...All these BS belts allow this madness to take place
why wait? fighters need to start unifying and make all the traffic go through them...why hold the belt hostage? F^ck waiting....if you want to rebuild this year give the belt up and when u come back u can fight whoever has it when you get back...

He knows, if he loses, all his money is out the window because he could no longer be marketed as undefeated, so he will only fight when he feels he could win

It's hard to take Thurman seriously when it seems like just yesterday he was saying Spence was inexperienced. Now he's saying he needs a "get back" year to be ready for the inexperienced young fella.
