Jabbing and boxing on the outside is not the sweet science. That basically what the amateur boxers do. Floyd did hold a ton, but he also set up counter punches and would punish you if he had the opportunity to.
I know exactly what Skip is talking about. At the start of the 9th there was a "low blow" that really hurt Floyd. It could have been a body punch, but that same round Floyd clobbered Conor and so the replay action changed to that. When Floyd folded from the "low blow" the ref quickly jumped in and warned Conor about rabbit punches and it was a very long warning. It was odd but not, because anyone that follows boxing and especially Mayweather fights, knows the ref protects the house's (in this case Showtime) boxer.
To me that was on the belt line which is a fair shot. Floyd either got lucky or (more likely) had a bit of help from his friends at MGM and Showtime. Funny that right after that moment, the fight turned 100% Mayweather domination. Like it was Conor's last bullet.
nah, they will, it'll be something like 148 or 149. it's all fake anyways. floyd will look just as big as conor, just like how he did against maidana, cotto, canelo, and these guys were suppose to have a 20 lbs weight over him or so his fans say.
Maidana was never suppose to be big. He fought a 140lbs not too long before Floyd fight.
Canelo, DeLaHoya and Cotto did look bigger, but they never landed the big punch. The difference with Conor is he will be an awkward lefty that changes stances. I know it doesn't seem like much but the shell stance needs to make adjustments for a lefty, if he switches stance and Floyd for some reason does not spot quickly enough a big punch may get thru.
In my book McGregor was up 5-4 going into the 10th, however it was clear that the tide was in Floyds favor and it was a matter of time before he scored the KO.
With that said I think it's absolutely disgraceful how the official judges had it scored, if anything both fighters were one round apart either way.
McGregor was gassed by the 5th round and put up a hell of an effort. But even at 40 Floyd superior boxing skills shined through.
I saw it the same way. Conor was winning but momentum was with Floyd, he looked much fresher and the distance was shortening.
Yes the judges are disgraceful. Also the ref was helping Floyd. It was 2 vs 1.
That being said even tho Floyd was looking a bit his age I give him full credit and an A+ . Good night for boxing.
The round 9 "low blow" that folded Floyd was right on the belt line. There is a gif of it in the forums. The punch was legal and hurt Floyd. Of course the ref quickly called it a low blow and gave Floyd time to recover. Let's keep it real guys, Floyd was either lucky there or helped. Don't get me wrong, Floyd deserves full credit for his TKO but Conor desrves full credit for that body blow that almost KO Floyd as well.
At a good weight, coming off a two year lay off.
Excellent performance
You do realize that Marquez jumped up from 130lbs to fight Floyd at a catch weight of 144lbs and Floyd didn't even bother to make weight, they just payed off JMM. That fight was SET UP all the way to prepare a match with Pac. Make Floyd look good versus a 'FEATHERWEIGHT' legend who fought Pac tooth and nail at.
The whole point of a catch weight is that one guy struggles to lose weight while the other struggles to gain weight. When the guy that was supposed to lose weight does not bother to do so, that a low class move and basically cheating, especially when the other guy is struggling to jump up two weight classes.
So no that is not an all time great fight for Floyd. It was a money grab for Marquez and a literal tune up with a name for Floyd.
I am pretty sure Ellerbe made sure to put in the contract that if Conor does something off the wall then he won't get paid. No one is going to throw away $100 million over pride.
The scoring system in Las Vegas always favors the money fighter. Pac looked faster and stronger than Floyd last night, chased him around the whole fight.
The argument that Pac didn't throw more because he was afraid to get countered is laughable. It is equivalent of, if Floyd is such a great counter puncher why does he hold and run around to waste time. Why not walk him down if you can just counter him at will.
Pac easily won last night and with one hand.
Are y'all trolling now???
Canelo didn't land anything in their fight. Manny legit hurt Floyd on 2 separate occasions, and Floyd was NOWHERE near as ssuccesful landing his usual shots.
Compubox is a joke. He landed a bunch of soft ****s, and its inflated.
Compubox needs to do a better job defining what a power punch is. That whole not a jab punch is a power shot is ridiculous. Pac was throwing with a lot of pwer in his shots while Floyd was punching to escape and missing most of his counters.
Not sure if this was posted. Thoughts???

seems like he is trying to control the fight from the inside. looking for help from judges or refs by being the employer and fighter. every fight i see when a boxer promotes his own fight seems like conflict of interest to me.
He was hurt far worse against Mosley and clinched his way back to puttin a whoopin on him, no different here.
Floyd put a whoopin on Shane... this is true, but best you can ever say vs Maidana is he outscored him, he actually ran the 12th pretty scared of Chino.
It's not stupid, the reasoning behind the lists takes into account a boxer's abilities as well as his resume.
That would be very subjective. the quality of a resume and especially determining someones ability is not scientific, and will vary from fan to media persona. I think the p4p list is closer to a popularity contest between guys with successful recent outings.
Well since Floyd just picked his last opponent, shouldn't he be obligated to fight the #1 ranked WBC fighter in order to defend his belt?
Last I checked Thurman is #1 ranked WBC fighter. I think its a good match up stylistically for Floyd, it won't sell much but some fights are about defending your title.. or does Floyd get special treatment?
Top Rank and Co is trying to bully Gamboa into a fight that is not good for him. Gamboa is doing the right thing... even tho i really wanted to see this fight :/
Roger mayweather uses like
nine different types of mitts lol.
And the Everlast mantis mitts, are way too heavy and thick to consider using worth using, to be fair.
I think you are confused. The Mantis are extremely light... they are the black, grey, and yellow ones.
Floyd's so called "greatness is an illusion". The guy has won 3 fights in the last 5 years. People get to impressed by his mitt work and jump roping. Show me in the ring, and 3 wins in 5 years is showing me very little.
Ever since Ortiz lost to Maidana, he has improved many aspects of his game. He is hungry and every bit as naturally talented as Floyd. He is relatively new, so he has a lot to prove, but he can definitely has what it takes to KO Floyd.
I see it this way, an overconfident fighter versus a hungry younger & bigger fighter... this is something Floyd has never faced.
I'm with you OP, Ortiz by KO.

Are those D&G gloves? Gucci? Floyd is fancy huh?
Where in the world did you get those ? Ive always wanted to try these out. Hook me up with info, price, quality and source plz.
I bought a pair from a Coach in Los Angeles for like $100. Found out he bought them in Tijuana, so I took a ride out there and bought two pairs for around $80. In the downtown area. This was a few years back. I don't see people using them anymore, so I don't know about availability.
As far as quality, it took me a few years to tear apart two of the pairs. I love how the glove feels, similar to Reyes.
In this thread:
Floyd fanboys compensating for the fact that their boxing god is incapable of KO'ing any true welterweights. Running away from punches doesn't make you the greatest. No one talks about how elusive Ray Robinson was... he was elusive but his KO ability was so much more impressive.
KO's matters... this is boxing. KO is the most impressive way to win. The best in the business should get KO's. If you can't deliver the KO regularly your P4P ranking should drop. That goes for Pac, Mayweather, Nonito, Klitchkos, anybody.
You make a valid point but that is my prediction. Watch. Oh yeah Castillo actually has a pretty tight Defense unlike Ortiz who is quite wreckless.
The Gatti fight happened 6 years ago, that proved nothing about how good Floyd is.... Gatti was a super cherry picked fight. When Oscar DelaHoya KO Gatti, it was but a minor win for him. But for Floyd that was a huge accomplishment?
Ortiz is gonna shock Floyd with his power just like he did with Berto. Floyd is good enough to make adjustments, but i am sure he will have to go with plan B or even plan C versus this kid.
That's a good question. I suspect it goes to the back burner. But its seems like the latest thing in boxing is accusing guys that beat or might beat you of using PED's. so who knows.
haha Mayweather is gonna Gatti this kid, watch!
come on' Gatti was small and washed up by time Floyd got a hold of him.
Ortiz bigger, stronger, and in his prime.
Probably will look more like the Castillo fights where Floyd fought a bigger man. I expect a close fight.
