floyd was the villain. he boxed safely to victory and people hated him for it. klitschko boxed safely to victory and killed the heavyweight division in the process. joshua going life and death with klitschko got the world interested again. wilder knocking everyone out got the world interested again. aj's fans will appreciate the boxing clinic, just as floyd's fans did. but to everyone else, it's boring.

That seems to be the consensus here among the Wilder/Floyd fans. All that chatter about how Floyd was boxing as he circled, jabbed, ran and clinched his way to victory—it was genius, the sweet science, hit and don’t get hit. Now AJ does it and he was boring? Yup. Same conundrum that Wladimir was in for half of his career. The best was when they made it seem like Vitali and Wlad was the same boring fighter when Vitali never had a boring fight in his entire pro career when the opponent wasn't just trying to purely survive with zero offense.

Jabbing and boxing on the outside is not the sweet science. That basically what the amateur boxers do. Floyd did hold a ton, but he also set up counter punches and would punish you if he had the opportunity to.
