C- event . The fights were duds. Bey did not win 11-12 rds vs Vasquez . The ref who scored it for Bey by 11rds had the scorecard already filled out in his mind.
Main Event
7-5 Floyd
The ref Bayless was obviously talked to about not allowing a tough inside fight . I saw an obscene amount lots of hugs and holding of arms by Floyd but no warning or acknowledgement of the acts. The pt taken from Maidana was strange. Maidana was not assertive enough with jab and had issues cutting off the ring . Floyd landed good body shots and his usual right hand but he held excessively where a pt taken away would have been proper. Floyd fought well in spots but he also did run.
So Maidana bit Floyd? I didn't see Maidana spit out his piece or is it still possible to bite someone wearing padded glove and making the fighters fingers go numb?
Kovalev won. He controlled the pace and fought his fight. I do not see Ward winning 7 rds. I gave him 4rds and the most 5 if going out of my way to be generous. 115-112 kovalev.
115-113 Maidana
Floyd looked very uncomfortable the first half of the fight. He made some adjustments in second half but overall was outworked.
Maidanas jab was very impressive
Cooper knocking down Ali... Unifications from Lennox...
Newer lot might say Joshua vs Wlad at wembley..
Anything hatton related .. and a bunch on here will say Calzaghe beating Lacy, and a past prime Roy and Hopkins..
Although i did enjoy joes win over bernard, cos hopkins was, is and always will be a c..u..n..tt
Wasn't Randy Turpin that beat Sugar Ray Robinson a Brit???
My dad talks about Henry Cooper vs Cassius Clay, he was out drinking and as he went to the toilet Clay was on the canvas looking down and out, by the time he came out the fight was over and Cooper was stopped on cuts! Cooper was a very British kind of hero. Never the greatest but courageous, humble and well liked.
McGuigan v Pedroza was a big deal in the 80s but he was badly mismanaged and didn't really stay around long enough. Benn Eubank Watson were great fighters but that was very much a British thing, Irish too with Steve Collins.
Objectively Calzaghe in the modern era, Turpin in the 50s due to his illustrious opponent and Bob Fitzimmons being the first 3 division champ back in the 1900s.
Do you believe McGuigan should be in the Hall of Fame??? I don't think he should be .
7-5 Canelo was what I scored. GGG looked stiff starting off. Canelo controlled the pace/direction of the fight stood his ground while GGG backtracked . GGG landing the jab but no body work although he did land uppercuts. Canelo's punch output was mix of jabs/ body and head shots.
Hbo's Lederman had a bad night.
I'm not a "fan" of either fighter but Canelo did enough to secure a close but clear decision.
Kovalev was given too much credit for jabs that were not landing. He was flicking his jab and Canelo was blocking with his high guard. I can't remember a power Kovalev punch in the fight.
Canelo made the fight , he showed great defense and hit Kovalev with power punches . It wasn't close .
Who knows. I'm wondering if Directv will show all of them (or any) too. Supposedly Golden Boy worked it out so cable and satellite broadcasters will show the free undercard but who knows.
im getting the fight cause as a die hard, gotta do it but if those other fights are shown, that would be dope.
can anyone confirm if dish network will show these fights,
Danny Garcia vs Nate Campbell
* Gary Russell Jr. vs Sherali Dostiev
* Rakhim Chakhkiev vs Harvey Jolly
* Omar Figueroa vs John Figueroa
* Mikael Zewski vs Clint Coronel
The Russell fight is off, for what reason, I can't remember. But I'm pretty sure Dan Rafael (or another reputable scribe) said they will be airing Garcia-Campbell, the Chakhkiev fight, and another in place of Gary Russell.
For those of you with Dish Network, the show begins at 7 PM EST (30 minutes from now) and is on Channel 455, they even have it available in HD.
cool, thanx for the confirmation for the dish network customers
Shane winning is not impossible but unlikely.
The fight could swing to Shane's favor if Shane is able to slow down the fight. He has to clinch and go hard to the body until Ref breaks them up. Manny to lose would require Shane to make it a dog fight inside and be quick on trigger on the outside where the shorter Pacman without a strong jab seems to control for many yrs. Shane has not looked good since Margarito which is a while back but Shane has bounced back from being written off but I dont see Shane beating Pacman to the punch , maybe 135 Shane would but not 147 Shane on the last legs of a HOF but not untainted career.
Ive watched that fight so many times.. If Cotto would have Clinched instead of hanging out in the ropes he would have won easily.
Agree but he also was leaning his chin in wayyyyy to much and was getting caught with uppercuts almost at will .
Didn't know that about Erik.
Growing up, amongst the "3 Legends" I always preferred him over the other two.
I'm not Mexican so that may explain why I didn't know about him making those remarks.
he lost me as a fan after he said that. It was either boxing digest or KO mag back in 2003 , i believe.
Any Mex fighter that goes out of there way to dismiss a Mex American fighter based on being born in the U.S and not being a "real Mexican " gets no support from me.
I root for fighters regardless of origin.
I am Mex but wanted Cotto to beat Margarito cause i just do not like Tony or his style. I also was pro Manny against Morales based on Erik's ignorant comments about Mex -American who wave the Mexican flags at his fights. He was saying that he doesnt understand how a person such as me can wave the Mexican flag when never living in Mexico. I lived in Mexico and went to school there, and he should b happy that folks here are happy and dont deny there roots. If he didnt want the support or just cant understand us waving the Mex flag, then he should just stick to fighting in a bullfightn ring in TJ instead of Vegas with a bunch of ticket buying Mex Americans.
Bottom line- Im a boxing fan . Blind allegiance is dangerous.
I don't have too much cash either...But instead of paying $60 I'm just gonna go to my local sports bar and watch the fight their for $5... I'll be buying a pitcher for $10. I'm only gonna be spending around 15 bucks tonight :boxing:
You should try to call your local sports bar and see if they will be buying the fight.
good luck having sports bars showing boxing, its all about UFC. I stopped calling up bars cause all i get is a laugh and a hang up when i mention boxing. This bar / topless bar owner told me that boxing ppv fees are double of the UFC , i guess that is why UFC i shown just about everuwhere and boxing is very hard to find
Idk how it's like where you live, but here in Southern Cali there's still alot of people who watch boxing. Probably because there's so many Mexicans... I know 4 sports bars that are ordering the fight tomorrow. They buy all the UFC fights too.
good, to hear that u can find a spot to see boxing, cause in riverside, good luck, its all about lifted trucks, afflction, ed hardy and ufc.
Floyd during his time at 130 was special. His total domination of Diego Corrales is his signature win. Too bad his style changed after the Castillo fights.
You'll get 4 fights if you buy the PPV.
Marcos Maidana vs. Erik Morales
Michael Katsidis vs. Robert Guerrero
James Kirkland vs. Nobuhiro Ishida
Paulie Malignaggi vs. Jose Miguel Cotto
are they showing any free fights b4 the ppv starts? i heard they are showing 3 free fights???
Ray Mercer vs Jesse Ferguson. I believe Mercer was accused of talking to Ferguson during the fight to take dive. I believe this whole incident made all the way to court.
Maybe he can fight Angky Angkotta in a few more divisions. It's the biggest joke imaginable.
seriously , i cant think of a top fighter he has beaten. He's fun to watch as he likes blocking punches with his face.
