Call me modern, soul/pride-less, unpatriotic or even an infidel if you want. i think it's pretty lame to always root for your countrymen. makes no sense. if you're mexican, puerto rican, african american, filipino, white or whatever else, it's not like you had a choice in the matter. maybe because there isn't a venezuelan/ecuadorian champ our there is why i feel this way. highly doubt it though. i'm a fan of boxing, not of dudes who i share some similar physical characteristics with. :boxing:
I feel ya. I'm Nica and yes Arguello is one of my favorite fighters, but Mayorga isn't.
It should come down to the skill and entertainment value not the nationality.
I understand supporting your countryman, but some people take it too far.
Indeed they do.
boxers don't stand a chance in mma cuz the mma fighters won't fight with their hands only. They would grab and bring u down to the ground and try to pound u or submit u. I was thinking u meant he would whip a boxers ass in a boxing match. Imo, u bring the best mma fighter like Silva and he would get blown out by light heavyweights like Cloud, Pascal or Dawson. Middleweight in ufc is 180 right????
Yeah middleweight is 180 in mma and of course a Mixed Martial Artist would lose in a boxing ring. Just like a boxer would lose in a kickboxing ring or in a Ju Jitsu Match.
Yeah but if Fedor and Hendo went on a 2 fight tear taking out big names Dana would still probably not renegotiate their contracts. Too often he lets his petty business grudges get in the way of what fans want to see.
True but he doesn't do it at anywhere near the level that Arum and Golden Boy go about it. You gotta remember he has no real compatition so he doesn't have that excuse to fall back on so most of the time he has no choice but to make the best in his company fight one another.
Dana already said he would honor all the contracts and mentioned Hendo by name. But he said when the contract runs out he will not renegotiate their contracts either which is fair.

he has no choice but to honor the contracts, that was part of the agreement. so basically he didnt give them anything they werent due.
Yup! Thats exactly right i have no problem with Dana not wanting to renew a few fighters contracts but hendo and fedor are on teh verge of retirement anyways so its really not a big deal.

i agree. i mean theres nothing wrong with sometimes rooting for guys from your own country, at the end of the day u do have something in common so u can relate to them. but i cant stand douchebags who just support their countrymen regardless of everything else, usually they dont know **** about boxing either. they just look at it like some nationalistic/racial war but seem to have no real love for the sport itself.

its all about revenge...dont expect to see guys like fedor and henderson much longer. dana white knows how to hold some grudges.

That was expected but his contract still has not expired yet and he himself already said he would most likely retire once it runs out. I think he still has 2 more fights left on his contract.

I just read in the MMA forum that Zuffa will not renew Fedor's contract. He will either be forced into retirement or stuck in minor league MMA.

Puerto Rico is a **** hole. Its very poor and alot of people are suffering down there. It is clearly a case of the entire middle class being wiped out. You either have it, or you don't.
I am Puerto Rican and I am proud of the perseverance and hard work of the people from the island, and I am a fan of this sport, so when a boxer comes up, I root for them. Not because I have a self interest in their success, but because I can relate to them and we share a commonality. I am fans of many fighters, some black, some mexicans, a few euros, some cubans and so forth. I love em all, but I get doubly interested when a young or veteran Puerto Rican enters the box. I don't see how that makes me less of a fan, as if you're a scholarly authoritarian on the subject.
I have no elitism bias, and I'm pretty sure 90% of the boxing fan public feels the same. I don't think any ethnicity is genetically superior to one another.
Anyways dude, you are clearly some immature punk who speaks in generalizations and like Maka said, you'd most likely be gone when Floyd leaves for good, making you a "fan" pretty suspect. Let it sink, I'm sure it'll hit you
pretty pathetic. accusing me of not liking boxing because i have a picture of floyd up. i had one of duran not too long ago. wonder if you would have uttered such silly stuff if i had it up now. whatever man. pr is pretty messed up. i've been there. but it's a lot better off than a lot of other islands in the area. people struggle all over the world all of the time. and you being born in pr is purely chance. nothing to be proud of. if everyone always blindly rooted for fighters from their country, people won't marvel at fighters from different regions..at least not as much. and being orud of your country is a dumb reason for that being so. whatever, 200 years from now that silly way of thinking that only separates us(in the big picture) will hopefully cease.
That soft bellied russian would fuk up any boxer alive or dead it wouldn't even be a contest.
And once again leave it to La Reyna of all Puerto Ricans to bring up gay sex in a thread that has nothing to do with gay sex.

Sounds more like a crush on a soft bellied Russian man. Have you tried to write to him? :booty:

i hate motherfukkers like the TS who think their definition of a boxing 'fan' is the and all be all
I agree.
Remember when HORUS made that thread telling people they were a fan of fighting and not boxing. What a tool.
what??? so fighters who aren't pr that become champions aren't accomplishing something? stop it dude. just come out and say it. it's apparent with some "proud" fans that there's some weird sorta' snobby elitism that they feel about fighters from their country. in other words, someone like you probably think pr is the best place in the whole wide world.

not surprised that sh1t went over your head
read my post as much as you need to til it sinks in
go neg rep someone.
ps. it's about time you get a girlfriend.
I don't see what is wrong with rooting for your country man, or someone from a similar background that you relate too. I don't get how a Mexican, rooting for mexicans first aren't fans or black people rooting for fellow blacks makes them less of a fan.
I don't understand why one person feels the need to pass judgement and point out what is required to be a 'fan'.
I am Puerto Rican and I'll always root for Puerto Rican fighters (unless they're named Cintron) because its rewarding seeing folks come up and accomplish something. I am also from Pennsylvania, so I always root for fighters from PA. Its like telling me that being a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles because I'm from here, makes me less of a football fan because I only root for the team(s) from which I was raised.
Now, the affluent types are reading my post and wondering...this poster SHOULD be a fan of Kermit Cintron
He's Puerto Rican -- check
He's from Pennsylvania -- double check
But no...his mere presence defies all logic and his annoyance allows me to break those rules

like YOU are any kind of authority on fanhood you d1ckriding flomo...fan of the sport my ass...you will be gone the moment Floyd disappears for good
lol @ this imbecile. so because i like floyd i'm not a fan of the sport now? please explain this jr HS logic to me.
