Edit; didn't expect this thread to be going a month later. It was in reference to Nicholas Walters.
I'm sure there's some but I'm at a loss to think of them off the top of my head.
Not legit injuries. I'm talking about someone who hasn't taken any real damage, isn't gasping for breath, isn't significantly slowing, hurt, or injured.
Who else has just said, "Hey bro, I gotta head out now" because he was losing?
The thing was, ISTR it wasn't even CLOSE. At times he was hitting Burns at will.
Burns gets ragged on for being limited, but to be fair to him, he's a tough cookie. The guy got bashed up continually, and it basically broke the opponent's heart. His body language pretty much said "I'm exhausted beating the Hell out of this guy."
I think it was Ricky's clever plan... to defeat the opponent by hitting his fists with his chin.
The Homer Simpson game plan :lol1:
Never heard of that Gonzales fella again. Very strange situation
Edit: Just looked up his boxrec. After the Burns loss, he ko'd two overmatched opponents before losing by TKO to Diego Magdeleno. The description under the fight on boxrec: "Gonzalez refuses to continue after an accidental low blow" :lol1:
What about quits when they're WINNING?
Sure, you can talk about both Golotas, but I saw a Ricky Burns bout against Jose Gonzalez, did you see that one?
I've never seen anything like it... Gonzalez lands at will, schools him and basically bashes him up for seven rounds. Ricky hangs tough and takes his beating, and Gonzalez seems to gas after seven rounds of knocking the **** out of Burns.
Burns ISTR claws back the next two rounds as Gonzalez is gassed and disheartened, then he amazingly quits on his stool and refuses to come out for the tenth, saying he has a broken left hand.
As it was in the UK, I think the scores were probably closer than they should have been, particularly with a Burns fight, but the guy HAD to think he must have been up at least five rounds. Even if he'd lost the last three, he'd have still been a "world" champ, with the WBO belt.
ISTR if he'd lost the last three rounds (which looked likely) it would have actually made it a draw on the judge's cards, but he didn't KNOW that.
I don't recall seeing that one but, wow, that sounds incredible. I'll have to look it up to see his face during that one. Amazes me how people can have such different natures, that some will quit over a broken hand, others will not relent until you separate them from consciousness.

winning is overrated. quitting is underrated
Lucan Mattysse mentally quit vs Alexander and Danny swift in the end. Although I give him a pass vs postol.
Also Rubio manager was pissed at Rubio because he felt he quit. V's ggg
Also Monroe quit
Then you got Hammer v's fat boy Andy ruiz
???
The obvious - "no mas" by Duran.
Fighters that were able to continue but chose not to (but they were hurt) Morales-Pacquiao III, and.... ATG P4P Willie Monroe jr vs Golovkin.
Did you even watch the fight or do you just repeat what people say? Duran vs Leonard II was nothing like Lomachenko vs Walters.
Walters quit job is the biggest I've ever seen.. yes, worst than Duran. .but of course on a global scale nothing will ever surpass Duran, the "no mas" incident damaged his reputation for all time . .luckily for Walters nobody knows who the f*ck he is.
"Thanks! I'll check it out when I get home. "
Now that I remember Hamer had quit in his previous fight as well. He may have been one of the bigger quitters the sport has seen. Boxing is a tough sport so surprisingly I don't judge fighters for quitting for ANY REASON. If it's mental than they should have never been in the ring in the first place. If it's physical and the damage is real then I can respect preservation.
Walters was both Physical and mental. He couldn't avoid combos and I disagree with people that believe he wasn't TAKING ANY DAMAGE. He was getting hit clean in the face for 6 rounds.
Hamer was a complete lack of focus/drive. He'll never fight again--I could have seen Fury going out like this if he had accepted the Wlad fight in that mental state.
It was against ruiz not povetkin. Here it is:

I think his promoter dropped him immediately after, Dibella I believe
Thanks! I'll check it out when I get home.
Can you find that one for me? Sounds interesting.

what are you talking about? watch that fight, it was a complete robbery, lucas totally dominated that fight
freitas vs corrales seemed to me like quitting, he was beating diego and in a few rounds were he tasted the canvas he gave up
Lewis vs Akinwande.
Akinwande held to death until he was DQed
Golota vs Tyson. Golota after the bout in his home country he had to be taken to the hospital because a vertebrae fracture and suffered some neuro damage. I thought that he quit because he was such a mental case but he actually got a lot of damage
I'd actually pay to watch Roy gag Kathy and have her admit Ward is the superior fighter. I'd even watch it with Stevenson and have Stevenson admit that Bellew was a ''ragdoll'' while Roy is at the bottom of the 9th with Duva slobbering and vomiting with glee. she also has to say that Doug Ficher looks like a gay Jar Jar Binks during bottom of the 6th. Roy is a champ
I'd fvck the sh1t out of Kathy, has to be the hottest old women of all time
I'm sorry.
I will forever herald Ortiz/Maidana as the largest I've seen. Yes, even over Duran. Because Duran was just getting embarrassed, so a quit was expected. No quit was expected from Ortiz after he knocked Maidana down. It was straight up shocking.
Yet, Crawford got beat up on this board for doing the exact same thing against Postol. When Loma does it, it's brilliant. When Crawford does it, it's boring. Funny how that works.

Complexion for the protection as the great Paul Mooney would say. The art of boxing is a thinking mans game, people don't embrace it as that all the time when you look at certain people and their skin color. Blacks have pretty much the worst representation on TV so we have to be goons, thugs, killers etc. So to show some sort of smarts isn't becoming of us. Its hilarious really.

Who else has just said, "Hey bro, I gotta head out now" because he was losing? You must be very young not to have heard about the "No Más" debacle. It was the single-most scandalous "quit" in the history of the sport when ATG Roberto Durán quit vs Sugar Ray Leonard.
Lucan Mattysse mentally quit vs Alexander and Danny swift in the end. Although I give him a pass vs postol.

Monroe Jr quitting against GGG was worse imo because he clearly tried to just barely get counted out. I think Charles Martin pulled off the just barely getting counted out intentionally thing against AJ.
The round where Loma stood in front of NW, and they both really did nothing but look at each other i think made NW feel embarrassed. He just looked genuinely ashamed, it was a gamesmanship kind of a thing where he looked at Walters like you're getting outclassed, you have nothing for me...what are you gonna do? Just shell up? I think that was when the fight ended.
