Definitely Mosley-Cotto... Floyd beat De La Hoya clearly, it just wasn't a fun fight to watch and niether guy looked great. But if you go back and watch, Floyd easily won the majority of the rounds, especially after Oscar abandoned the jab and got caught coming in everytime.
If you consider a one-sided ass whooping that is basically over before they ever step in the ring more exciting than a fight which may be more tactical but is an actual challenge to both fighters-- then I guess I see your point.
I think you're really underestimating Mosley's chances here, he's still fast and he's still intelligent. He will challenge Floyd.
I love Joshua Clottey, but I was at MSG for his Cotto fight and he basically gave it away with inactivity. No one would love to see him upset Pacquiao more than me, but I just don't see it happening. I can't get excited by a fight when the outcome seems like a forgone conclusion.
i'm finding this exchange hilarious now. Listen to what Garvia tells Ortiz at 14:24 onwards..........
That is pretty funny looking back on it, thanks for pointing it out.
Aside from one being legal and the other being illegal, the big difference to me is that Floyd was winning the fight and Tyson was losing. Tyson did it as an act of desperation, or possibly looking for a way out. In that respect, VICTOR'S headbutt is much more like Tyson's ear bite than Floyd's punches are. Victor and Tyson were both frustrated in a fight they were losing and resorted to doing something against the rules, either in an attempt to gain an edge or in an attempt to quit. Disappointed to hear Doug Fischer make this comparison.
Canelo. Because he'd be a good test for him. And b/c Canelo is apparently a bit sensitive in his youth and Mayorga may be able to ruffle his feathers in the build up.
I am looking forward to this fight big time I know Andy personally and think he is going to stop McEwan in the later rounds.
Do you know if Andy wants to rematch Brian Vera? I'll be attending this fight and when I heard Duddy was dropping out I was really hoping they'd replace him with Vera.
You're right!
You're thinking is correct, this is in fact a scam. They just want you to buy a ticket to the event, but when you show up on May 5th the arena will be empty. Then you'll hear "hahaha we got yo a s s" and Ashton Kutcher will jump out of no where. Trust me this kid is f u ck i n brutal, just ask Demi Moore.
First off, when your son lost to one guy and never fought the other of course you have to pick the guy your son lost to, it'd be disrespect not to. Second, everyone who wants Mayweather to lose needs to drop the whole Castillo/pressure/aggression thing. The Castillo fights were 8 years ago. Since then everyone has thought that was the blueprint for beating Floyd and no one has. I would argue that the fighters who've really tried it like Hatton have ended up worse for it, instead of getting outboxed he got knocked out. Does anyone think Floyd may have recognized Castillo I was the closest he came to losing and said "man I have to figure out a way to handle an aggressive pressure fighter to make sure that doesn't happen again"??? B/c I believe he did, and I beleive he figured it out, and I think we need someone who will try something different before we'll see Floyd lose or at least in another close competitive fight.
Shumenov was touted from early on to win a title in record time as he was taking impressive early steps up in competition and winning. Only problem was when he actually got to his title shot he fought Gabriel Campillo and despite Campillo being lesser known than some of the other names on Shumenov resume (Griffin, Mendoza) he had Shumenov's number. If you watch the fight it is impossible to give it to Shumenov. That's why a guy like Ishe Smith, with no stake in the LW division or that fight (to my knowledge) was on this site penning articles about how bad of a decision it was.
Funny how the Americans were bigging up Jacobs, America is finished in boxing imo
Jacobs got exposed as a glass jawed nobody, their only claim to fame is mayweather who ducks any serious challenge
Rest of the world are dominating boxing, I have no doubt all three Americans at 168 will also get exposed soon enough by Abraham, especially the oscar winning Dirrell
Please stop hyping up your guys America, you are finished in Boxing. |Rest of the world dominate
edit
Another american hype job down the drain in dawson. rest of the world dominate. pascal is haitian by his birth rate. europeans ftw
Yeah good point America is totally done in boxing. We're not home to the #1 cash cow in the entire game or anything. We're not the destination for every boxer in the world who's looking to make that next step toward super stardom. We're not home to THE Mecca of boxing. Did anyone happen to catch the end of Pascal's interview after the fight, I think he said "Jean Pascal is going to invade Europe" you know cuz that's where all the money and relevant fights are. Really good post.
BTW I picked Arthur to win the Super Six from the beginning and still have faith in him, but he was getting badly outboxed by Dirrell and hadn't hurt him enough to say the KO was guaranteed. And I'm a huge fan of AA. Good luck exposing Ward, your 2004 Olympians and a bonafide World Champ sure had an easy time with him.
I never saw Valero hurt and have seen Pacquiao hurt so I'd have to at least give Valero the puncher's chance. Valero definitely had a lot of defensive problems, but don't forget that Pacquiao's defense is not exactly foolproof. Most of the time Pacquiao's defense is his offense/high work rate. We've seen him get hit by a lot of opponents, even Clottey's slow ass uppercut was landing. I think Roach would probably tell Manny to box given how big of a puncher Valero was and it might be more boring than people think. If Manny boxes Valero he outpoints him pretty easily, if he brawls it's anyone's game ending with a KO before the end of the 7th. Too bad Valero decided to be a complete fa gg ot, we'll never know.
Of course I would feel bad. Valero dying was a big loss to boxing. Edwin was exciting as hell and him vs anyone at 135 or 140 would have been amazing.
... says the guy named Valero 27-0. Don't get me wrong, I loved watching Valero fight, but after going to sleep that night with the knowledge he killed his wife I didn't feel bad at all when I woke up to hear he was dead.
you guys need to stop hero-worshipping valero. he doesn't deserve it.
Agreed, there are some things you can't forgive someone for and killing your wife (or any woman for that matter) if definitely one of them
One Round
It will be one round no matter what it's scheduled for. Either Toney will catch this dude with a punch and put his lights out or the dude will get Toney on the ground and make him submit. Either way I don't see it going past the 1st round, I heard Toney is banking pretty hard on his boxing ability so I don't see him lasting long if they hit the ground. And if he punches this dude once cleanly it will rock his world like nothing he's ever experienced in all his years in MMA.
I noticed this last week and was really surprised someone at Top Rank included Bradley in the poll after Arum's comments on Bradley the week before. Maybe they thought Bradley would lose and they'd make their point... if so that really backfired. Twako is probably right, casual fans probably aren't checking out a promoter's website and voting in their poll. While Cotto and Marg are most definitely more popular/well-known than Bradley, people know both of those fights kinda suck.
As a New Englander I'm inclined to go with the Ward fight, but I'll pick Castillo-Corrales round 10 because of Goosen's crystal clear "u gotta ****in get inside on him now!" and it ended the fight. That said, at the time I saw Gatti-Ward 1 I definitely thought the ref shoulda stopped the fight at the end of the 9th-- right before Lampley started yelling "stop it Frank! you can stop it anytime!"
You were killin him with the 1 2 combo, nice work bro. I liked how you worked in a couple rights to the body, even though they usually don't count for amatuer scoring I think it still pays off. You know you clipped someone good when you stun them with headgear on, keep up the good work.
And I work in Manhattan so I use that bridge quite a bit. However, as a boxing fan shouldn't you be more interested in tossing Sexy Sergio's steroids off the bridge? I think you know what's right :boxing:
I think as a boxing fan we should stop accusing everyone who has sucess of using steroids, it does nothing to help the sport. If someone test positive I'm all for sh i tting on them then, but until then I think someone like Sergio deserves all the credit for giving us a good fight and spectacular KO. And I can't believe you brought up the Cintron "headbutt", the replays clearly showed there was no head butt. And Cintron has since proved himself to be a big baby so f him anyways.
Valero is a f a g g ot and doesn't even deserve the RIP u put next to his name, let alone to have his name mentioned with Marquez. Marquez all day. Who kills a chick... guys who order dick sandwiches and tell the waiter to hold the bread, that's who.
And this is the Aoh vs Guiterrez full fight on the undercard
now all we need is the Nishioka fight, any1?
Thanks for posting, what an excellent move by Aoh ducking that punch and digging to the body.
but that is the same as the pro game.
even with old scoring system bad decisions were still about! lets not forget the reason the scoring system changed in the 1st place
Why did it change in the 1st place? I'm not familiar with that.
This isn't the only definition of shot, but I think when I a fighter gets KO'd more than once he should call it quits. And I don't mean stoppages where the guy is getting dominated and the fights stopped, sometimes fighters have a bad night. But if you've been knocked out cold or KO'd where your senses aren't there (like Montiel after the 1st Donaire knock down) more than once you should hang it up. Most of these fighters skills erode immediately after multiple KOs. And we're all starting to learn more about multiple concussions long term effects.
For example, Jermain should have been forced to retire after the Froch KO. It should have been forced on him. Instead he comes back to suffer a 3rd KO to Abraham that I'm sure will effect him down the line.
Ortiz has fought:
Lamont Peterson
Vivian Harris
Marcos Maidana
Nate Campbell
Antonio Diaz
Mike Arnaoutis
Berto has fought:
Carlos Quintana
Juan Urango
Luis Collazo
Steve Forbes
Mickey Rodriguez
David Estrada
I think it's close, which is surprising since Berto has been a champion for about 3 years.
I am surprised how many people picked Ortiz. I know we're all mad at Berto for his level of opposition since winning a belt, but Berto has definitely fought the better level of opposition. Ortiz lost to the best person on his list. Take away Peterson too since he technically had a draw with him (I thought Ortiz won). And I can't really give him much credit for Vivian Harris, I was pissed the commission let Harris fight someone like Victor at that point in his career.
Ortiz is left with Campbell Diaz & Arnaoutis. Berto's Collazo Urango & Quitanna are definitely better than that.
