I think everyone, including myself, were surprised that Floyd got jail time. Not that 2-3 months will hurt him at all, but it was a bit surprising, and I think everyone tends to overreact a bit when it's celebrities that are thrown into jail, even for a short amount of time.
Assumming that Floyd does get time cutoff of his sentence (could be 22-30 days according to judicial officials), Floyd will most likely be released the first week of March. May is now pretty much impossible, June is stretching it a bit probably, but July is wide open. It would give Floyd 4 months before a fight in July. It would give him a month to acclimate himself to the gym and boxing again, a month to announce and promote whatever his next fight would be, and 2 months to train. If he fought in July, it'd be about 9 1/2-10 months since he last fought, which is a lot less than the 14 and 21 month layoffs before. I'd expect him to fight about the same, especially since it seems he was training in the gym leading up to his jail sentence as well.
Therefore, if the Sergio Martinez rumors are true about him being interested in fighting at 154-155, than that's the route I think Floyd should take in July. It would give Sergio anough time to fight Macklin in March, and than 4 months later he could fight Floyd. Dibella has already indicated that Sergio will probably fight in the Spring and again in the summer. And if Sergio isn't going to happen, he could fight the Berto-Ortiz II winner at least as well.
Than, if all goes well, he and Pacquiao could still fight in November or December.
That's the best option at this point I think, realistically. I don't see Bob Arum waiting for Floyd to get out of jail to resume negotiations, he said he'd like to see Manny fight in the spring, and I doubt Manny will tkae a one year layoff before going into a fight with Floyd. It would give Manny time to fight either Marquez, Cotto, or Bradley in June.
Im not a Floyd fan nor a Pacquiao fan but Im not a hater either. I have issues with both fighters. With that said sometimes I can't stand Floyd's ****ty attitude towards the world. It's like he is so immature and acts like a jack ass. I mean think about this, he is the best boxer of this era. Does millions of PPV buys, the dude has the potential to be a cross over star. But where are the commercials he has done? any endorsements? he is such a hard worker in the gym yet gatorade has never put him in a commercial? At least manny did those corny cell phone commercials.
I for one think this short jail stint will be good for him. I hope he takes the long hours by himself without his crew kissing his ass to think about things. He might dominate in the ring but outside the ring he really needs to step up his game. Im not talking about selling out but be more mainstream friendly. I think boxing needs that. So im glad he is going to sit in a cell, may teach him that there are rules he needs to follow. They apply to us all Mr. "Money". After that he can come out, take a tune up in June and be ready to outbox Manny on Christmas day 2012, nice x-mas gift to us all. Floyd wins going away 9 rds to 3.
I agree, but also disagree. FLoyd should take the biggest fights out there before he starts to slow up and fade. Who knows, maybe by 2013 Floyd will start to really fade and won't be that good anymore, which is why he should fight twice in 2012, against Sergio and Manny. Sergio is really good, looking better than he ever has the past couple years, in his peak, but he can be had. Sergio has the skill set to beat Floyd, especially at 154-155 lbs, where Sergio will have a big weight advantage. But, Floyd can still take him. I know he only fought 4 rounds against Ortiz, but he looked alright the first 2 and pretty damn good the other two, I only wish we'd seen the other 8. But, I don't want to see Floyd waste 2012 on Berto-Ortiz II winner, unless the Sergio fight is not going to happen at all.
If Sergio is off the table, than he should fight the Berto-Ortiz II winner in July. But, if the rumors are true about Sergio being the likely candidate for Floyd's next fight in case of no Pacquiao fight, go for it. Sergio would boost Floyd's legacy big time.
I 100% agree but I just think Floyd's team believes that right now he would beat everyone around the weight class including Pac & Sergio but I do think they have a slight hesitation with those 2 guys because of there high level and them being a Southpaw.
I believe they think Floyd will still win but if he had 1 more fight then they know without a doubt that he would beat them hands down no matter how good they look in there next outing. They just dont want to lose a close fight or get caught with a lucky punch because he was slightly off & rusty. If he had that 1 extra fight then they wouldnt worry about that at all
Apparently Arum responded to Floyd's jail sentence in an interview and said that he'd like Manny to fight in the spring (April-May) and than again in November against Floyd, but he said it'll be up to Manny. I don't see May happening for Floyd or even June at this point. Floyd is most likely going to do anywhere from 45-65 days which would mean he'd get released sometime between February 20-March 9. May and June are probably off, but July would be good. But, Pac will probably fight again, probably on Cinco De Mayo now that's opened up.
And before the sentence Arum said May is to early for Pacs cut to heal , now Floyd is not available for May Arums wants May , man he just pissus in the breeze , Ive never seen a man contradict himself and flip flop the way Arum does .
I wouldnt fight Sergio next no way. I probably wouldnt even fight Pac and I felt kinda like this even before the jail sentence. If Im his team, I think they would feel alot more comfortable if Floyd had a few more rounds or one more fight and then they wouldnt have any worries.
I think they feel he is still 1 fight away from being the best he can be so I think they would rather fight like the Ortiz-Berto winner or whoever and then fight Pac & Sergio right after that. I dont think they would have any worries of either of those guys if Floyd had 1 more fight before then

I dont get it, whats wrong with Pac in July thats what Arum called for when Floyd wanted May 5 , or is Pac off the hook now ?
I want Floyd to flog that fake and at every turn it seems like an escape route for Pac and Arum and people just accept it , no other fight interests me with those two , all the other fights can happen AFTER Floyd and Pac meet .
