There should be one belt per weight class IMO.
I mean, we have the ****ing WBC, WBA, IBF, IBO, WBO, WBU and I even remember Audley Harrison prancing about with a WBF title.
In my honest opinion, even if Manny goes out and beats DLH and Hatton, he still won't have a better resume than Mayweather.
Mayweather is just superb. Hes beaten everyone there is to beat. Hes faced all styles and slithered through different weight classes in the process. The guy is a modern great. His resume is outstanding. Just go and look at the names on it. De La Hoya, Hatton, Judah, Gatti, Corrales, Castillo - these are all well known fighters.
De La Hoya knocking out Mayorga.
Hatton knocking out Castillo.
Haye ruining Maccaranelli*
Calzaghe getting the decision over Hopkins (I had Hopkins winning by 2 rounds)
Amir Khan getting KTFO.
Pavlik knocking out Taylor (Was a big suprise)
Please name the elite of his era that Joe Calzaghe has not fought that he could have.
The simple answer is Roy Jones, and Jones hasn't fought Calzaghe either. Also what would fighting Jones have proven about Joe? He wins he's literally P4P #1, he loses he's still where he is now.
Calzaghe should have done what Hatton did and parted with Frank Warren a long time ago.
That way he may have hounded the big names into fights several years ago.
If Mayweather does not fight the winner, then he should be knocked off the top of the P4P rankings in my opinion.
I think Floyd intends to fight Oscar, then Hatton and then retire. He has no fucking intention of fighting Cotto or Magarito.
BTW, just for the record, I'm tipping Magarito for this one.
I think we can all agree that being undefeated counts for nothing if you've not fought the elite of your era.
That's the fucking arguement.
That is why boxing is so beautiful. The fact we can argue and have discussions about two different fighters from two different eras. The fact is, we can only speculate about the outcomes of these fantasy duels.
In my opinion, in answer to this thread title, De La Hoya has achieved far more than Calzaghe. Hes fought the best, has won world titles in SIX different weight classes and is a modern-day legend.
Calzaghe, who has a superb record of being undefeated, has not been in with the elite like DLH. His biggest fights have been against Hopkins (washed-up 43-year old, I told you the victory would mean fuck all) and Lacy (Who I predicted to KO Calzaghe in less than 6 rounds). Ofcourse, he also beat Kessler and has won titles in two different weight divisions.
It's a good line-up. Some of the choices are bizarre but there you go.
I see it's gonna be a bit like Pro Evolution Soccer, some of the players/fighters won't be licensed so they'll have fake names. Now that is shit.
I think his nationality plays a huge part in why hes hated on these forums. It's really quite pathetic. When something is great, you should accept it and praise it.
Personally, I don't like Joe Calzaghe but hes one hell of a fighter.
Get him in the ring with the Hitman, then he'll lose.
Mitchell was hardly a decent opponent was he?
(Hatton is on the UK cover of FN2, Hopkins is on the others I'm led to believe)
How does that differentiate Hatton from Mayweather?
Let's see if Mayweather takes on the winner of Magarito/Cotto later this year. I can't see it happening personally...
If you're talking about the similarities between Hatton and Mayweather (when people say Mayweather keeps ducking fights) then there is none. Who has Hatton ducked? Hes not been avoiding Witter. It just isnt the right fight for him. Witter is not a huge name, hes not a big draw. In my opinion, hes not even that good. I find him quite boring to be honest.
Hatton was chasing the likes of Zab Judah and Vivian Harris a few years ago and finally got a fight with Zoo, the number one in the division at the time. Obviously, he beat him. So why bother fighting Witter when he could go over to the states and fight the likes of Castillo and Mayweather?
Haye stopped him? The number one cruiserweight at the time.
Does it matter Haye nearly got knocked out in the 4th? If anything, it makes Haye look better that he fucking dug deep and stopped Mormeck.
How the fuck did Witter get the WBC belt?
Yeah hes a good fighter. Has a tricky, unpredictable style but Hatton isn't interested in him. Hatton wants the big names now and Witter just doesn't fit into that category.
I'd love to see the fight personally and see Hatton take the WBC belt, but only after Hatton smashes Malinaggi to pieces. The Mayweather defeat will be forgotten once Hatton demolishes Lazcano, takes back his IBF strap off Paulie and then unifies the light-welterweight division that he owns.
After the way he murdered Maccaranelli and Mormeck, every fucker in the HW division should be taking Haye seriously.
The guy is hilarious. Never have I seen a bloke talk so much smack and back it up in the ring.
Haye is a natural heavyweight and could KO Klitsckho. In my opinion.
Make no mistake about it, if Hatton and Witter did ever meet. Hatton would smash him to pieces.
So it's a bit stupid if he has been avoiding him. The only reason I can see is that Witter is big risk, little reward.
Based on that performance, Witter doesn't deserve to share a ring with Hatton.
Hes fucking shit anyway and was took apart by Bradley. Fair play to the Yank, he looked half decent.
Great performance by Hatton IMO. Probably left himself open a bit too much though, a better fighter would have exploited that. On the whole though, he looked good.
Lazcano is one tough cunt for last those twelve rounds.
Paulie is not in the same league as Mayweather.
Mayweather is sensational and Hatton never really stood a chance against him at welterweight, especially in the US with that cunt of a ref.
I think Hatton would stop Paulie. He has something to prove now. He needs a BIG performance in his next encounter, a big KO is coming infront of a Manchester audience I'm thinking.
I'd love to see him fight Witter personally, but Paulie would be an entertaining opponent.
