I remember reading about Calzaghe doing some kind of challenge and he didn't do that well in it. I'm not sure if it was ''Superstars'' or something similar. But I'm almost sure it was him. Can any of you fine gentlemen tell me what it was and if I'm correct?
I remember Hatton being on superstars a good few years back. I thought he would do really well. But he did very poorly. Even in things like pressups and squat thrusts and dip type exercises.
At the time i was suprised but in retrospect he was probably out of shape and not training for a major fight. That is the only thing i can think of to defend him.
It was Hatton, he came in like a zeppelin as he was between fights. Basically footballers, boxers and other guys who make real money for their sport see it as a bit of a laugh. Guys who make fuck all like track and field "stars" saw it as a serious opportunity to raise their profile.
It looks like some of you have a bit of a guilty conscience and take far too much out of these things. Not everybody has an agenda on these boards. I genuinely have an interest in the subject. In fact, another Joe - Joe Frazier, also did pretty badly too . Here he is trying to swim: LOL.
:lol1:
I've never seen that before. Frazier really had guts I'll give him that.
Yeah, it's not really comprehensive enough to really be a true test of who is the overall athlete. I suppose it's really about entertainment value first and foremost.
However, it was heavyweight champion boxer Joe Frazier who nearly stole the show, almost at the cost of life and limb. In the very first event, the 50 metre swimming heats, Frazier nearly drowned, and only after he was retrieved from the pool did he admit to commentators that he didn't know how to swim. When a reporter asked him why he tried the race, Frazier replied, "How was I to know I couldn't unless I tried it?

I was watching the tour de france earlier this year and they did a special on the training camps these guys do and it was mentioned that pro cyclists pretty much all have resting heart rates in the low 30's / high 20's which is pretty insane.
I've tried searching for information, but I haven't found anything. I'm pretty sure it was him though. I remember being quite surprised, as I thought boxers would have been up there with the best, in terms of fitness. Calzaghe is probably one of the fittest boxers too.
Athlete's, Rowers and Cyclist tend to have the best Cardio and strength/weight power so they tend do better than other sportsmen.
i've seen Rowers in particular do some seriously amazing feats of strength and endurance, my Royal Marine friends always recommend the rowing machine as the best whole body excercise machine.
It wouldn't surprise me. I didn't see the resurrected version of Superstars but I remember the original (British version, dunno if that came before or after the US one) from when I was a kid. Some sports, or at least their representatives, always did better than others. Boxers, racing drivers and soccer players were invariably crap. Track & field athletes usually won it.

God can't be great at everything. Just boxing. :boxing:
