Yeah, I think Calzaghe is little bit better than both Hopkins and Toney. And I think these are the top 3. Ruiz was a heavyweight champion, but I have a hard time to compare him with these 3.
Would be a good win in his resume. Collazo is a really good fighter, but I think stylewise he can do nothing against Berto, pretty much like he couldnt against Mosley. Collazo likes to be the slick boxer, but Berto should be just too fast for him.
Torres looked so good against Cotto because Cotto pressed the action and gave him the opportunity to throw combinations on the inside.
Against Arnaoutis Torres looked bad and was lucky to get the decision and Holt has proven he can outbox and hurt Torres. Its just that Torres has a big punch and Holt seems very vulnerable what makes this fight so interesting and exciting.
I saw Chris "The Nipple" Arrolea getting outboxed by a blown up cruiser once. He ain't gonna make it.
Which fight was that?
I havent seen a lot from Arreola yet, but I think hes looked pretty good in the fights I saw him in. Of course he still has to be tested, but to me it seems like he can become a top 10 fighter. For sure hes got an exciting style, so Im really interested how he will continue his career.
Alcine is a good fighter. I'd actually pick him to beat pretty much everyone else at 154. He's well rounded. He does everything pretty well and doesn't make a lot of mistakes.
I think I would also pick him against anybody right now. IMO he could get all the 4 titles if he got these fights. After beating Simms he even said in the Showtime interview that Don King had offered an unification bout against Spinks, but that will hardly ever happen now ;)
Im really curious what guys like Kirkland and Angulo will have to offer 154. Would be great if Alcine could get some good wins before these two step up to the world title picture.
I see the Peterson brothers losing pretty soon. They are good, they will be recognized as top 15 fighters, but they will never be elite fighters IMO. Especially Anthony ...
I like Alcine, but I also have to say that I wasnt that impressed with him before the Simms fight and I was pretty sure Simms would beat him. I also thought maybe Simms has the potential to be a P4P fighter though ...
Alcine won a close decision against Simms, but he deserved it. His defense was really tight and he didnt let Simms get his work done from the outside. I dont think Santos is even close to Simms speed, timing and accuracy in that department, but if they get close, he wont just hold and clinch like Simms did. He will fight back and we will see how that will turn out.
But Im definitely picking Alcine to win a clear UD.
Roy wouldt go anywhere in the P4P lists ... Come on, would that really mean hes that good again? It would kick Calzaghe out of the lists because hes shot or whatever, but it wouldnt give Roy his old reflexes back ...
Underrated
Felix Sturm
Under rated:
- Felix Sturm
I dont know if a fighter who fought to a draw against Randy Griffin, got knocked out by Castillejo and struggled in his wins over Castillejo and Masoe is really that underrated in todays boxing world.
Sturm lets his opponents trap him against the ropes and his D isnt tight enough to avoid taking shots there. I like him, but hes definitely a pretty weak champion.
I say Kessler right now, even if Pavlik and Abraham move up. These two, Bute and MAYBE Taylor I would put right behind Kessler.
But Dirrell and Ward also have all the tools in the world to become dominant champions (except a granite chin maybe...), so 168 is gonna be very interesting in the post Calzaghe era.
Yeah, I remember that, too. He kept saying hed prefer to fight the Taylor-Pavlik winner because that would be a much bigger challenge.
But ... Im pretty sure Enzo has admitted lately that Pavlik would be the tougher fight, they just still want Jones.
I think the difference will be that Mirandas power shots will not get through Abrahams tight D whereas Abrahams wild combinations will land on Mirandas chin. Abraham is the clear favorite to me and I hope he pulls it off and gets the Pavlik fight, but Miranda is just always as dangerous as anyone can be. Thats why its an exciting fight. Abraham should beat Miranda 8 times out of 10.
I certainly hope so...because that scenario means that they are actually fighting each other
:)
Yeah thats whats really important. September 13th is definitely a great start :)
Depends how Guzman looks at 135, I think they will all take some losses because the comp there is TOP NOTCH.
Agree. I dont really see someone clearly dominating the division or something. They will all probably get their wins and suffer their losses.
One of those two mandatories could be the future of the divison to be honest... Povetkin is really good, and I've heard a lot of good things about Dimitrenko.
Oh my where did you hear that about Dimitrenko?
Ive seen a lot of his fights and although he is tall and pretty fast with his hands and on his feet, I believe most of the top 20 heavyweights would knock him out. He does have some offensive potential with his jab and quick hooks to the body, but he had so many problems with lower level opposition ... I dont think he should be mentioned when talking about the best heavyweights.
I think Winky would win a close, but clear UD.
Williams would look good at times because of his workrate, but I think Winky would be able to block pretty much everything. On the other hand Williams is just too hittable, so I think Winky would land a lot of clean shots and that would give him the edge against the number of punchers Williams would throw.
Of course if Winky doesnt have the legs anymore, he might be too slow to get his shots off. But from what he has looked like against Hopkins, Id still pick him.
I just wanna see Williams stay at 147 though.
First of all I love that matchup. The lightweight division is getting the fights on that have to happen right now and thats not a usual thing in boxing.
My pick is Diaz by stoppage or UD. I just think he will have an easier time landing his shots than Katsidis will have against Diaz' defense.
Really tough call ...
I think Id put it like this:
Most complete:
1. Calzaghe
2. Toney
3. Jones
4. Michalszewski
I can understand putting Toney above Calzaghe and Ive got to admit Joe doesnt really always look like such a complete fighter, but I think his ability to adapt and all the different styles hes shown make him the most complete.
The best:
1. Jones
2. Calzaghe
3. Toney
4. Dariusz
I think Quintana deserves a 3rd fight and I think Williams knows it would be a very difficult fight. Id pick Williams by close decision or by stoppage again, but Quintana would definitely have a shot. He proved that in the first fight and we didnt really get to see if Williams could really adjust in the rematch, it ended too quickly. Actually I think it would be more like their first fight if they thought again, but I think Williams would be able to hurt and stun Quintana at times to get the edge.
I hope both will get some big fights against new opponents though.
Actually I thought you could also count the thumb what would have made it three fingers. So either Zab didnt do that much shit or I also have a problem counting :D
Definitely a good fight Im looking forward, too. I have no idea how it will turn out, but it should be competitive and worth watching. I really love the ESPN fight nights right now.
Some of these fighters would make for a great show. Cruiserweight is definitely a division with a lot of potential and the purse of the winner would be a special payday for most of them. But still I cant really imagine guys like Aaron Williams, even if they have already lost, taking such a risk ...
Ill watch it anyway though, even if the line up will be a disappointment.
Hes a solid prospect, but I dont think hes THAT good. He will definitely become a contender now, but can he become a champion, I dont know about that. What Im pretty sure about is that he wont become a dominant champion or the undisputed number 1 lightweight.
And actually I think Lamont seems to be a little better.
I like that fact that Collazo is ranked #1 by the WBC, but isnt Jackson Osei Bonsu going to fight in a WBC eliminator against Jan Zaveck or somebody?
Im not sure, just think Ive read about that. I dont really know anything about Bonsu though.
Calzaghe gets credit from me if he beats Jones Convincingly
Calzaghe will drop his P4P place if he has a SD with Jones
Both these things. Jones still has the tools to make anyone look bad in some situations, but it shouldnt be enough to make it a really close fight. Otherwise Calzaghe has to drop in the P4P rankins or does anyone think Roy would suddenly be a P4P fighter himself again?
Uhm, doesnt look to good for Pavlik there in my eyes.
Ive absolutely no idea how his fight against Hopkins will play out. But I can imagine Hopkins beats him clearly. I tend to expect a close fight there. What Im pretty sure about is that Hopkins wouldnt allow Pavlik to look good.
Calzaghe would have a relatively easy night as long as he isnt getting too old.
Dawson does have all the tools to beat him decisevely also except the chin and maybe a little defense, although his defense isnt bad. But Pavliks pressure is different than the one Johnson applies and I think Dawson could handle that a little better.
And actually Id also pick Abraham to KO Kelly but thats another tough one to call. Maybe Pavlik outworks him, maybe he wears him down and stops him late, maybe Abraham lands his huge combinations and KOs Pavlik.
So I think theres no fight Pavlik wins for sure, one fight he loses for sure and three fights that could go either way.
